FWIW, I hate Arsenal more than anything. Most other clubs I just dislike.
It’s tricky though when a club plays really nice football on a low budget and you have to admit some respect, like Brighton currently. Us usually winning over them is a bonus.
According to Transfermarkt, Brentford's transfer net spend (the column to the right) for the last two seasons is nearly twice as high as Villa's.
I was surprised when I saw it.
West Ham and Bournemouth will try to make it a physical battle, but I doubt Emery’s going to drop his basic model just because the opponents want us to. Villa will try and make those games as much of a passing contest as possible, even with Dendoncker.
Goncalves is in the Coutinho mould - small and lightweight. We have an abundance of that sort, and don’t tiny technical 10s tend to struggle in the Prem?
But what’s the power balance between the league in itself, and the clubs in it? Most PL clubs would be happy to create problems for Newcastle as long as it doesn’t have negative consequences for themselves.
No one else remember last time we met Palace and they outplayed us? Zaha scored a brace and even that hopeless Mateta guy scored an insane volley. I know they haven’t looked as good since but still.
Transfers for the first team are enormous investments and tend to pretty much make or break clubs at this level. People will focus on that part of the job (and I’m sure it’s the same at every club).
Maybe some more talk about why it’s good to use tactics that demand a lot of the players, ”that way you weed the weak players out”. That’s what Klopp is doing, weeding out the entire squad.
Don’t see any club giving Digne a 150-160k per week contract so not sellable even for 0 pounds. But he’s not quite Turkey material so maybe a subsidized loan to France.
Spurs could be buyers if Conte remains, I have a feeling he’d focus on signing a shot stopper rather than a fancy ball player. Not likely Conte stays though..
