Really hope West Ham don’t win it now. Would be so much better to be the first English winners of that competition instead of repeating what they did the season before.
The team from England doesn’t go straight into the group stage (like with the Champions or Europa League). Instead it will first go into a play-off, playing some team home and away. If it wins, it then goes to the group. So it’s possible for the League Cup winners/7th in the league team to only play 2 games and get knocked out.
Meslier is a strange one. He’s hopeless at everything, no command of the box, poor distribution, makes weird mistakes and a medicre shot stopper. Still there’s always talk about him being this great talent, apparently Bayern see him as a potential future nr 1.
I hope people around the team are trying to manage expectations. Looking at the games various teams have left, Villa most likely will end up 8th (bookies agree). Still a brilliant ending if we remember where we came from in October, but with every media in the country lately talking about Villa going to Europe there is a risk some will end up being disappointed.
For me, it’s all about 2023/24. Anything this season is just a very unexpected bonus.
He’ll also be 33 in a few weeks. For a player relying so much on pace that’s pretty old, he will show signs of age sooner or later. Avoid like the plague.
Sounds like Nagelsmann is close to getting the job, which is great news as he definitely would struggle there. Makes it easier for us to get top 6 next season.
I don’t believe Southgate has anything against Watkins, he’s picked him before and will probably do it again if Ollie keeps his form. Mings is another story, it seems to me Southgate listens a lot to what loudmouths say online and Mings has had plenty of detractors.
There were reports the other day about him being about to sign a new contract for 100k per week, which is obviously good money but sounded low to me.
100k would make him our 5th or 6th highest earner I think.
