  1. He didn’t go into that role when he came on Saturday, McGinn did. People say he hasn’t played as a single 6 before, so unless he’s doing it in training it’s probably unlikely in a game. More likely as one of the 8s I guess.
  2. Targett certainly seems popular among Newcastle fans at the minute. I think they’ll want him.
  3. Maybe if he suddenly stands out. But managers will generally want their own signings to succeed, and therefore give them more time.
  4. Not only the new manager bounce when we play them apparently. Phillips and Bamford are both expected to return just in time for the Villa game. Or maybe not? Just saw the dates were uncertain again.
  5. Being brought into the club by a manager who got sacked right after is difficult. Rafa isn’t exactly popular around Everton and the players he signed in January have barely played since (Mykolenko, Patterson, El Ghazi). Talk about earning your place in training sounds a bit hollow. In reality, managers will always prefer their ”own” signings while Rafa’s recent signings are treated more like stepchildren.
  6. The praising of Leeds will surely end. I can see their new manager Jesse Marsch quickly become the most ridiculed man in English football. And for good reason.
  7. It was reported he ”chose” Spurs: https://insidefutbol.com/2022/01/29/rodrigo-bentancur-picks-tottenham-over-aston-villa-spurs-also-close-in-on-team-mate/546842/. I Juventus really wanted to make the double deal with Spurs and their friend there Paratici. Juventus wanted cash to get Vlahovic and Boca had a sell-on clause for Bentancur. By selling two players to Spurs at once, they could report a higher fee for Kulusevski and a lower for Bentancur, and send less money along to Boca, as long as the total sum added up.
  8. And as always, the decision to focus on that specific frame and not the one before or after.
  9. Would like them to VAR check every penalty in the shootout as carefully
  10. Again, before the game yesterday I expected him to be involved and I’m curious about why Gerrard made other choices leaving him out. The choices obviously worked well and I’m not complaining.
  11. Yeah, I meant before that. I would have expected him to start, esp when Buendia didn’t .
  12. If Leeds appoint Jesse Marsch they will continue to be a very hard pressing and hard running team, that’s why he’s the main candidate. They’ll probably get rid of all-over man marking though.
  13. Anyone else finding it strange Bailey wasn’t at all involved against Brighton yesterday? Before the game I thought Brighton would be perfect for him, with them expected to dominate the ball and Villa looking to hit them on the break. Only last week Gerrard spoke about how it was time for Bailey to step forward.
  14. Watch Jesse Marsch half-time speech at Salzburg here, it’s hilarious. Best german-american mix ever. ”Wir mussen get the **** in!” ”Zu viel **** respect!!!” Quite the culture shock after Bielsa.
  15. Jesse Marsch is funny. American, and extremely american at that. Repeatedly ran out on the pitch, fist pumping, every time Salzburg did something remotely well in the Champions League.
  16. Should’ve doubled Man U too, the three games against them are among our best this season.
  17. One worrying thing, for those of us who like to worry, is that our attack didn’t seem to weaken all that much without Buendia and Bailey, i e 2/3 of our summer signings. We would probably have done ok without Ings as well today. Great free kick from Coutinho though, what a goal that had been.
  18. Should have counted the tweets saying ”madness is doing the same things and expecting different results” when the starting XI was announced.
  19. Bissouma didn’t exactly increase his value today. Not that single games should make much difference in what is hopefully a thorough scouting process, but still.
  20. Brighton have only lost 7 games this season, two of those against us.
  21. Why don’t we even try to hold the ball now? Infuriating
  22. Shame we’ve now given up all ambitions. We’ll concede at this rate.
  23. I thought Gerrard would by now have arrived at the point where he makes changes even if he doesn’t necessarily believe in them. But apparently not.
  24. Secretly he would surely want them all to be slightly lesser copies of himself.
