  1. Man United are the ones Leeds hate the most. If Phillips went there he would get death threats from Leeds fans. Won’t happen.
  2. After JWP, ESR and Bissouma, I just hope Phillips isn’t next in our ongoing quest to sign players who are either reluctant to come or where the club won’t sell. I understand Villa want to buy from within the league, but it is difficult so they better have alternative plans.
  3. True, but Leeds seem to hate almost everybody.
  4. Long article in The Athletic today about Suarez, how his goal scoring has dried up at Atletico and how he is getting less game time because he no longer can play like before. ”The decision to go without Suarez has also coincided with an upturn in Atletico’s results and performances. The infectious aggression and physicality in pressing and unsettling opposition defences from his best moments with Barcelona is just no longer possible. The team have looked more compact and connected without a No 9 isolated up front.” In the article it also sounds like Suarez isn’t too happy about being a bench option and that he probably wants to leave for a less stressful league, like MLS.
  5. We don’t even have a young squad anymore, we’re right in the middle together with Man City and Liverpool when it comes to average age. The top clubs don’t tend to sign many 35-year-olds (unless they’re managed by Conte of course).
  6. Some now say Raphinha has a release clause set at 20m. That would be a real kick in the teeth for Leeds, pocketing a profit of 3 million instead of the 40-50 they dreamt of.
  7. His injuries could be a reason not to spend a fortune on Phillips. The biggest clubs may have the same worries.
  8. All this constant reporting on it just makes things worse. ”Chukwuemeka still hasn’t signed”, immediately followed by hundreds of Villa fans on Twitter writing about what a spoiled word removed he is. He wants game time, which is understandable, and if the club signs more midfielders that could be difficult. It’s true Villa don’t have to give him minutes, but you can’t blame the kid for wanting to play.
  9. So happy Gerrard finally tweaked the system so that Dougie no longer ends up alone in central midfield. I was **** sick of the sight of Villa exposed in yet another turnover, Cash and Digne nowhere to be seen and McGinn & Ramsey defending out wide, while Dougie desperately tries to chase after two or three attacking players down the centre of the pitch. This is so much more like it. Villa in control, defenders defending, Ginny and Ramsey more central and Dougie keeping the passing ticking.
  10. Midfield is so much better partly because fullbacks aren’t as high up, which means midfield players don’t have to perform fullback duties as much. We’ve stopped shooting ourselves in the foot.
  11. I’ve slept on it now and come to the conclusion I **** love Calum Chambers. What’s not to like? He even looks like a top bloke.
  12. Very much a confidence player. When he feels important and trusted, he’s usually solid.
  13. Keeps doing very well and was MOTM against Southampton. Not bad for such a shit player.
  14. Parts of this has been visible here and there before, but it’s like something has just clicked these last games. Positioning is right, combinations come off and we don’t even shoot ourselves in the foot. After the third goal we just played around in Leeds half and created just for fun. Beautiful. Leeds were awful yes, but that hasn’t stopped them from irritating us before.
  15. Chambers keeping Konsa on the bench is interesting.
  16. He is brilliant although not as good as usual yesterday. Incredibly explosive.
  17. He didn’t try to murder Messi then? What an unbelievable idiot, hope he ends up in jail and PSG goes into administration.
  18. Age doesn’t help either. The transfer carousel this last summer was won by the clubs that avoided Ronaldo and Messi - those clubs didn’t have to alter their whole game to accomodate aging stars who must never be benched.
  19. Could see him be a real pest in the technical area and get lots of yellow cards. Not necessarily a bad thing.
  20. Even the clubs that could, wouldn’t offer that much. Would Man City replace De Bruyne with him (almost the same salary)? Would Bayern get rid of Lewandowski and get Coutinho back in (Lewandowski only has £325K)?
  21. Unbelievable how reports vary about Coutinhos actual salary. The most common figure used has been £360K and I must say if £480K is correct it’s understandable Barcelona are in trouble. That’s more than Mbappe and De Bruyne, almost on Ronaldo’s level. There’s no chance any club would offer him anywhere near that though. An important question is the length of a new contract, with older players usually the club wants a shorter contract while the player wants a long one. Very difficult to predict Coutinho’s greatness in 2026 or 2027.
  22. Exactly! We could be the first! Target 7th place in the league, not higher.
  23. The teams in the conference league are very unglamorous for the most part, fourth in the moldovan league, third from the latvian league and so on. But the good thing is Villa should have a decent chance of winning the thing if we ended up there, at least quality wise.
  24. For a second I thought this was the Leon Bailey thread, but he’s not 30 is he.
  25. We’ve often looked weak with a midfield two. Usually need one more player to do defensive work.
