The first 15 minutes are critical, Arsenal this season have started most games with a really intense high press. They try to cut off passing lanes in the oppositions early build-up, if Luiz plays he will probably have Lacazette marking him.
If he believes dropping a bunch of regulars makes the team worse, is it brave to do it or a bit stupid?
Variation, new exciting team sheets and playing time for all is fine but winning is better.
Unbelievably bad. Wolves kept falling over themselves in their own box, unable to clear the ball. This should put an end to the narrative about Wolves ”solid defence”.
Martinelli is great but I believe Arsenal will look at the opposition and choose to mainly attack down the other flank. Cash usually handles duels like that well, I’m much more concerned about Saka vs Young.
I almost expect Luiz to start anyway, despite those stitches. If not, it raises the question who of the others is the least uncomfortable as DM, or if Gerrard will go crazy with a double pivot.
If this had happened a couple of weeks later Nakamba would have been back and it wouldn’t be a problem.
I have a feeling they won’t. Many seem to at least partly blame Ralf for the latest flop so his consultant gig is probably up in the air at the moment. Tuchel + Rangnick could have done wonders for them though.
Instead I heard commentators yesterday call for ”football people” to run the club, meaning people like Rio and Scholes.
I agree Ajax on paper look weaker than in 2019, but they have done well in the league with very few conceded goals, and also in the CL group stage. But not good enough it seems.
I agree 7 goals is too low, but it’s a fact that strikers have become less important overall and goalscoring more spread out on more players. Very few, if any, strikers/nr 9 have had a good season in the Prem.
Looks like Man U get knocked out of CL early, just like the club’s two candidates for new manager: Pochettino with PSG and Ten Hag with Ajax. Wonderful.
Messi in a celebrity front three has been an awful idea at PSG. Combine him with Suarez, who has stopped running (and scoring) almost completely this season and things could get laughably bad. Don’t put Coutinho through that.
Not many successful strikers currently in the Prem.
Lukaku and Werner make Watkins look prolific. Kane is only slowly finding form and Ronaldo is very inconsistent. Lacazette and Richarlison have 4 goals each this season.
The overall trend is goals are more spread out, classic 9s score less, wingers and attacking midfielders more.
There are some prolific strikers in Europe but they often stop scoring if they come to England. Many teams are looking for that reliable goal scorer but he seems hard to find.
From a transfer perspective, giving some minutes to Traore could be good business. He was valued at around 20m after last season when he played and scored regularly.
The same goes for other players of course, not playing really destroys value.
