  1. But that’s the model, they buy upcoming youth stars from Europe and the US and sell them again after a few years. They don’t aim to have them all come through their own academy.
  2. Me too. Hopefully the return to two 10s against Arsenal was only because Ings wasn’t 100 percent.
  3. Something like this probably, it’s their business model to keep players only a couple of years to maximize profits. I bet they regret agreeing to that release clause for Haaland btw.
  4. We haven’t seen him do that much when he’s played though. Some say he ”looks class” but he hasn’t yet been that involved in games. If he could point to something he contributed he’d probably have a stronger case for game time.
  5. My real dream for next season is that a couple of the youngsters take another step in their development. Quite a few seem close to Prem quality already. Imagine if KKH becomes a solid PL rightback, Tim grows into a great DM, Carney becomes reliably dangerous even in the league and Archer steps up another notch. Suddenly we’d have a serious team without even having to care about FFP. I’m not sure we’ll be able to buy our way into the top 4, but getting lucky with an academy generation could do it - at least for a little while.
  6. Looks like Wesley may have played his last professional game.
  7. Don’t think we have to worry about Pogba coming.
  8. But not anymore. Now the squad age is almost exactly the league average. Same with Man City and Liverpool.
  9. Yeah, Marv wasn’t popular after that game. Who were the others subbed on before the apocalypse?
  10. I’d say no to the 35m mentioned. We would be in a hurry to replace him and it won’t be easy to find someone better or as good for that money. Plus the inevitable issues bedding a new player in. The pre-season won’t be as good if we’re waiting for more newcomers to arrive, again. So no thanks, unless it’s necessary for FFP reasons to get some income and we seriously believe KKH can step up already.
  11. Sanson has played more than twice as much as Carney under Gerrard.
  12. If he goes to Dortmund he will probably get game time almost right away. Their strategy is to sign the best 17-19 year olds with the promise of game time, and if Dortmund don’t believe they can go straight into the first team they won’t sign them. Signings are usually thrown in at the deep end and if they can’t perform they tend to disappear and have to start over somewhere else.
  13. Why should Sanson deserve more chances than Carney? That’s an almost absurd thing to say imo. First, Sanson is 27 or 28 and was brought here to play a certain role. Carney has come through our academy and is currently developing. Only a crazy club would prioritize the potential personal development of Sanson in this case. Second, since Gerrard came Sanson has already played more than twice as much as Carney, and I don’t think Sanson has contributed that much more in those minutes.
  14. When he returns, will it be as the old, mediocre Nakamba, or the recently improved one? I’d say the difference isn’t that big and that he usually plays more or less the same way: with energy but somewhat lacking in skill. While he was injured people were bigging him up as some kind of saviour, which may not help him trying to get back to shape. But I expect Gerrard to play him a lot so should be able to get match fit quick.
  15. It’s quite a lot though. I read Rudiger has been arguing with Chelsea where he wants 180k per week or something and they offered 120k or so. A 25m bonus equals 120k extra every week during a four year contract.
  16. It’s pretty cool the core of that team is Villa.
  17. Basically, yes. We can of course sign players who are established as well, but not real top players. Our only chance of having star players is to try and find them on their way up.
  18. Haven’t Spurs tried to sell Winks to us? If so I’m happy we said no.
  19. At least it looks like Digne will be back for us. Maybe Nakamba as well, though he’s probably unlikely to start.
  20. At least we shouldn’t have to be bullied physically by Podence.
  21. I was really surprised by Purslow’s comments on Bissouma. If the club has any interest in him still it’s very unusual behaviour to have the CEO publicly mocking him.
  22. Villa are actually among the teams that progress the ball the fastest (hoofing is a very fast method). Playing quick passes isn’t the same as being in a hurry to go forward, so what you’re saying isn’t necessarily wrong. https://theanalyst.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/premier-league-team-styles-1-1024x576.jpg
  23. That is if we decide to sell Cash to Atletico. He said he’s happy here so no need to sell unless the offer is huge.
  24. Lacazette was linked to Villa as well a couple of months ago. What a death sentence that would be.
