  1. I think we will struggle to attract players who are a step up. We can’t offer Europe, nor can we offer a positive trend, good vibes or a proven manager. Players on their way up career wise will have other options. What we possibly can offer is high salaries, potentially for big name players who are looking to sign one final lucrative contract before winding down.
  2. I could see Traore make a living juggling the ball in the street, but Bailey may have to rely on his clothing line.
  3. Long-term, we will need continued focus on the academy and value-for-money signings. Gerrard as manager will naturally want more quick fixes, the issue is if Purslow also wants to take short cuts.
  4. It would surprise me enormously if Gerrard doesn’t get a lot of time and access to big funds. The owners have left the club in Purslow’s hands and he’s in love with Gerrard, so the only way something happens is that too much time goes without improvement and the owners eventually give up.
  5. It’s definitely true Gerrard can attract better players than Smith. Or maybe that should be, ”could” attract. The allure of playing under Gerrard is strong only as long as he is new to the league, after that he’ll have to show some results. His pull may actually have peaked in January. If Villa finish the season in shit form and end up 14th, media will be filled with discussions about Gerrard’s surprising flop, Villa wasting big money and so on. How strong will Gerrard’s pull be then? I can answer: it will be about as strong as Lampard’s pull, if he gets Everton relegated. Two famous English midfield legends failing spectacularly. It’s a great story for the papers.
  6. Wolves are full of shit players, still they grab points a lot more often than us.The biggest difference is coaching. A good coach lifts his players and the Prem has many good midtable coaches: Lage, Hasenhuttl, Moyes, Vieira, Howe and more. But the whole ”it’s the players” narrative is at least comfortable for Gerrard, who can sit back and wait until somehow miraculously the squad is finally filled with elite players. Then maybe he can start taking some points.
  7. Not saying Gerrard should be sacked now, but how has he earned time? I still think it was time to get rid of Smith, but also that Gerrard has a lot to prove. There are lots of proven managers in Europe but in the Villa world the discussion usually reverts to talk about somehow reinstating Smith. It’s possible for a club to have had two managers who are both less than stellar.
  8. His hype curve peaked around 2018 didn’t it? Back then he was inofficially valued at 80m and looked at by Liverpool and whatnot. When he finally came to the Prem last summer Villa were the only ones still after him. He obviously has talent but I get the feeling he thinks he’s a little too good to have to work hard.
  9. If it’s real, at least they get to keep their home colours, unlike that weird Villa Castore shirt where claret and blue instead of combined were blended into purple.
  10. What you say is logical but some companies don’t seem to understand this. Spotify pay 180 million euro to rename Camp Nou, maybe the most iconic of stadium names, to Spotify Camp Nou for 12 years.
  11. It’s annoyingly low but wouldn’t surprise. Another case of us lowballing our own players.
  12. Possibly also the difference between other potential players wanting to sign with us or not. 8th and we’ll be described in the press as a success story, 12th and we’ll get ridiculed for wasting big money like Everton.
  13. If he had said it, he would have got it wrong three times in one sentence. Bailey isn’t playing much, it’s currently not going that well and he’s not at Leverkusen.
  14. Reports in January were conflicting but ended in the club aiming to extend his contract,m. It seems that isn’t going to happen, so he will be sold rather than walk for free in a years time. Also in January there were reports about Villa turning offers around 30m down. This summer he’s got less than 12 months left so I’d expect him to go for less, around 20m perhaps.
  15. Werner is still rated because he plays for Chelsea (sometimes) and cost a lot to sign. He’s energetic but that’s about it imo. His touch is poor and so is his finishing, even at Leipzig he usually needed relatively many chances per goal.
  16. I agree McGinn/Luiz aren’t a great combination as a midfield two, mainly because McGinn doesn’t seem to have the patience to be a holding mid, but it still worked some games last season. I know they were the midfield two in the 7-2 game against Liverpool, and checking back they also played in a 4231 against Arsenal 3-0, Palace 3-0 and West Brom 3-0 around the same time.
  17. Absolutely claret and blue is boring so **** all that. Might change the club name as well, maybe Birmingham Believers FC?
  18. Going by the overall look they could surely do a lot more than that with the badge, perhaps change it from a lion to a poodle.
  19. I knew Castore had no sense of style but WTF. Purple? Instead of claret and blue? And what’s that collar, looking like some casual business man playing golf. This must be a joke. Please
  20. That’s based on the same Telegraph article that did the rounds a couple of weeks ago. The real Coutinho issue isn’t champions league but how keen he is to keep playing at a high level when the world cup is over.
  21. You should have told the world earlier.
  22. Ramsey did start against West Ham but came off injured after 15 minutes, guess that’s why he missed the Southampton game as well. But he didn’t start against Wolves or Arsenal. I didn’t think of it before you wrote it now, but that awful run of games before Smith got sacked coincided with Ramsey not playing much.
