  1. And why he’s been persisting with the system during Marv’s abscence, when it was obvious he would be out 12-16 weeks.
  2. And he called him an asshole because Simeone wouldn’t play him, since he’s no longer performing well enough. https://talksport.com/football/1005903/luis-suarez-curses-atletico-madrid-boss-diego-simeone/amp/
  3. Depends on who you ask, Spurs fans have been complaining about their awful squad for years. Their squad is obviously better than ours, but the interesting part imo is how much Conte has improved it. No one would expect a manager to win the league with Villa’s squad but a great manager could possibly get more out of it.
  4. What Howe has done most of all is to improve the players who were already at the club. Joelinton, Shelvey, Willock and so on. Their most expensive signing only started playing recently. Conte is world class but still comparable: he’s made a big difference without bringing ”his players” in. If you can’t improve the squad you inherit, from whatever level they’re at, you’re probably not that good.
  5. He’s leaving because they don’t want him anymore. If Simeone believed he could be useful he would have played yesterday.
  6. Our best games by far came with Watkins and Ings up top so I can’t see a reason to play anything else. Martinez Cash Chambers Mings Digne Ramsey Luiz Sanson (Chuk on at 60?) Coutinho Watkins Ings
  7. I would want Gerrard as manager forever if Villa scored at Anfield and he did a knee slide in front of the Kop. That’s my goal for him.
  8. Are you really saying it’s too soon to judge Gerrard until he’s signed a majority of the squad? With normal turnover it would probably take at least 3 years for more than half of the squad to be replaced.
  9. Pleased we’ve signed him but surprised he’s now dropping that deep.
  10. Only a few months into this season Spurs fans were calling for Nuno to get sacked, and look at them now.
  11. I understand Gerrard’s system is demanding for certain positions, but what does it take to be a Gerrard type of striker? Apart from scoring goals obviously.
  12. Guimaraes is a top player, will prove to be a good deal. A bit like a bigger and stronger Douglas Luiz, someone who can win the ball, keep it even if pressed and distribute it.
  13. You’re right about January, even though the main players signed were on high wages they seemed like smart business. The worries are more based on quotes from Purslow and Gerrard about age profile, big investments coming, wanting proven players and so on.
  14. Have this feeling too. When Newcastle were bought, Villa got stressed and decided to act quick. Newcastle have surprised people by being sensible and building slowly, like Villa used to. Villa, on the other hand, are starting to act like people thought Newcastle would — scrapping the wage structure and chasing big names.
  15. Exactly. Two men without any previous experience of managing a team in a top league. After seeing Samatta and Borja Baston fail, you wouldn’t say we tried two different strikers so the problem must be something else.
  16. We’re setting us up to fail if we insist on only signing players who would be difficult for any team to sign, like Phillips and to some extent Bissouma. Players who either say they want to stay at their current club (Phillips) or now want to play at the highest level (Bissouma). Chasing them is likely to end in failure, which seems unnecessary as there are comparable players in other leagues.
  17. Scoring in our current system may be extremely difficult, but as long as we bring in a world class striker we could still avoid relegation next season. Same goes for the defence. The system is very demanding as a single DM has to cover vast spaces alone, but if we sign Kante it could work. Just don’t question the system.
  18. All teams except maybe Liverpool and Man C are patchy. But Villa obviously more than most.
  19. Not really, every window brings in minimum 3-4 new players, even last January….
  20. Arsenal have been great this season but they are vulnerable to a high press. The problem for Villa is we don’t press high - it’s a strategic decision not to (and it doesn’t suit all teams to do so).
  21. Comparing results will always be a bit stupid. We thrashed Southampton recently and a couple of weeks before that Southampton beat Spurs, which should mean we’ll beat Spurs 7-0 this time. And Leeds recently beat Wolves just after being thoroughly beaten by us which makes us much better than Wolves, even though we may have lost to them the other day.
  22. Excellent news. This proves he’s happy to stay and ensures his value. He’s obviously got a raise and it’s well deserved.
  23. Every week I’m hoping for Arsenal to get humiliated so this season has been hard for me. Hope Palace can surprise tonight, or that Vieira knocks Arteta out in the technical area.
