  1. No-one thinks we’ll be as good as them within five years but we will still have to compete with them. And even more so if the Champions League ambition still stands.
  2. Wouldn’t mind the real Eddie Howe though, he’s really proven me wrong.
  3. We would have created a core consisting of players Liverpool don’t really want, with the long term goal of competing with Liverpool in the league and CL. I can hear Klopp laughing already.
  4. To me it makes sense to focus on what players have done the last year or two. Not what they’ve done historically. For players who move abroad many seem to expect them to still be like they where when they left the country. If Wijnaldum had played like he’s done at PSG but at a PL club instead, I don’t think we would be chasing him.
  5. Could theoretically still work for Villa, since we’ve decided to not press high and instead prioritize to get back into shape.
  6. And next season they’ll most likely take another big step.
  7. Sa still an idiot for charging and sticking his leg out like that. Edit: Newcastle now just 2 points behind Villa
  8. Still jealous of Newcastle signing Bruno G in January. And frightened we’ll end up with Saint-Maximin instead.
  9. Please don’t exaggerate, no more than 80% is his fault.
  10. Not arguing against what you’re saying, but I’ve seen many say Gerrard will surprise when he gets rid of players. By now it feels like almost every player has been mentioned as being in danger. The only one who would be a real surprise imo is Martinez.
  11. If we’d signed Toney we would have had to listen to him saying ”**** Villa” in video clips and answer ”Where I’m playing? Nowhere exciting”. Not worth it.
  12. The summer of 2020 stands out with Martinez, Cash, Watkins and Traore for 70-75m or so. Wish we could have had one or two more windows like that. I know we got Barkley in that window as well but a shit loan doesn’t kill you.
  13. Have people actually been saying that? I’m not that crazy about Allan myself but he’s been a decent player in Italy and to some degree at Everton. Doucoure I’ve never really understood the point of.
  14. When Everton are relegated we could probably get Allan pretty cheap as new DM. 31 and experienced, maybe not a proven winner but did win the Copa Italia some years ago.
  15. Ollie hasn’t been great this season but it must be said: him not pressing high is because Gerrard is telling him not to. Villa don’t press high in this system, it’s a tactical choice and possibly a stupid one, but not Ollie’s fault.
  16. Everton have spent more seasons in the English top flight than any other club. Villa are runners up. If Everton are relegated and stay down 11 seasons while Villa stay up, the number one spot is ours.
  17. Agreed, Gallagher is a similar type of player as McGinn but with superior technique.
  18. At least better than the concept kits posted a couple of weeks ago, those with disgusting collars and buttons and a purple home shirt.
  19. Laughing at a wildly successful midfielder’s failing coaching career would be so much sweeter if we didn’t have our own version in the dugout.
  20. Real Madrid most impressive team so far in the quarter finals, did not see that coming.
  21. It’s reasonable for them to discuss signings. But at clubs with a sporting director/DoF model, that person normally has the final word. Look at Spurs or Arsenal. Arteta and Conte make wish lists but Edu and Paratici have the final say.
  22. I’ve read that too but can’t remember where. If true, it means Lange has effectively been demoted from sporting director to some kind of scout.
  23. I’m not sure it’s naive, I would rather call it cynical. Hopefully overly so.
