  1. Yesterday Villa pressed high, especially in the first half, so some things were actually different.
  2. Difficult to know who is more influential in each signing. Lange had just started when the club signed Martinez, Cash and Watkins, if he gets credit for those his time here looks a bit better.
  3. McGinn sounds risky. Arteta played Xhaka at LB yesterday btw, didn’t go well.
  4. Since Lange came to Villa we’ve only signed a handful of players so there’s not much to go by. And since Gerrard came the impression is he’s been the one deciding. That would make Sanson, Bailey, Buendia, Ings, Young and Tuanzebe the only ”real” Lange signings.
  5. Everything would actually be easier if we just played like shit the whole time. Sack Gerrard, sell everyone, tear the stadium down, change the colours. But the first half yesterday shows there is real potential there. It’s infuriating.
  6. Using a huge war chest becomes more difficult if Villa keep losing and sliding down the table. The targets become even more reluctant, and we may have to get cheaper players because of that.
  7. Opposing supporters don’t watch Villa that often, they base their opinions on 30 second compilations on youtube. Everyone ”knows” Mings is a joke.
  8. The way Purslow could get sacked imo is if he hangs on to a failing manager for too long and lets him spend stupidly.
  9. Digne has shown he’s a good player going forward, but handing out very lucrative 4 year contracts to 29 year olds is still questionable.
  10. A common idea is the ideal midfield should be a trio of 7ft cavemen who threaten the opposition into submission.
  11. Very true. Thinking the season’s over leads to losing even more games which leads to fewer players willing to come.
  12. Unless we fold completely in the second half this is a big improvement. Guess Conte will change things though, they haven’t been great.
  13. Best we’ve played this season after the Southampton game. Sigh.
  14. At least we don’t play two number 10s.
  15. The home crowd plays a huge part, really carrying the team. If United score and the crowd goes quiet, Everton are in big trouble.
  16. Very much like two drunks fighting in a parking lot.
  17. Haven’t seen much of Ibrahim Sangare. Is he good? Scout opinions online seem to vary.
  18. Another right winger would be …. surprising.
  19. Considering some of the alternatives mentioned that trio looks modest, cheap and also youthful.
  20. To challenge players publicly can possibly be effective short term, when the player wants to prove the idiot manager wrong. Not sure it’s a smart way to motivate long term. Players don’t run through walls for Klopp because they want to prove him wrong. They do it because they for some reason respect and trust him.
  21. This is true. What’s worrying for me is the possibility of Gerrard signing up more players like that, proven winners who were great when he played with them 5 or 10 years ago.
  22. Drinkwater is actually playing much more than Wijnaldum this season, at Reading.
