Difficult to know who is more influential in each signing. Lange had just started when the club signed Martinez, Cash and Watkins, if he gets credit for those his time here looks a bit better.
Since Lange came to Villa we’ve only signed a handful of players so there’s not much to go by. And since Gerrard came the impression is he’s been the one deciding.
That would make Sanson, Bailey, Buendia, Ings, Young and Tuanzebe the only ”real” Lange signings.
Everything would actually be easier if we just played like shit the whole time. Sack Gerrard, sell everyone, tear the stadium down, change the colours.
But the first half yesterday shows there is real potential there. It’s infuriating.
Using a huge war chest becomes more difficult if Villa keep losing and sliding down the table. The targets become even more reluctant, and we may have to get cheaper players because of that.
To challenge players publicly can possibly be effective short term, when the player wants to prove the idiot manager wrong. Not sure it’s a smart way to motivate long term.
Players don’t run through walls for Klopp because they want to prove him wrong. They do it because they for some reason respect and trust him.
This is true. What’s worrying for me is the possibility of Gerrard signing up more players like that, proven winners who were great when he played with them 5 or 10 years ago.
