  1. It’s obvious what he must do to win the Villa fans over. Take points off Liverpool in the middle of their title race. And look happy about it.
  2. Basic human psychology. He is considered by himself and others as being above the manager so the hierarchy breaks down. Players hate being there, Ronaldo scores, team is shit.
  3. Some are right then, he’s made them a much worse unit.
  4. Well done Potter, cutting off Spurs passing options and making them slow.
  5. Trossard channeling his inner Modric there, scoring with the outside. Lovely.
  6. Spurs have been incredibly effective lately but what they’re doing isn’t that different from Simeone and Atletico Madrid. Park eight outfield players in and around the box, surround the ref at every opportunity and, eventually, hit on the break.
  7. I read somewhere that when Nas and Wes asked Purslow to be ceo, he wanted to become part owner as well. Not sure how much CP owns but his share is probably relatively small. Him being part owner does change things though, if NSWE would want to get rid of him they’d have to buy him out too.
  8. Is today the day when finally Conte’s counterattacking will run into some problems? Surely Potter has something up his sleeve?
  9. Wouldn’t Bielsa be a logical appointment for Burnley? Instead of signing expensive players. I could see Bielsa wanting to return to England and prove people wrong.
  10. Think positive. They’ll most likely finish 7th or 8th in the league and Leipzig will win the EL, so no european games at all for WH next season.
  11. I miss the days when rumoured transfer targets were on their way up.
  12. Players coming from La Liga have often had the most problems adapting to the pace, which could suggest the spanish league is the slowest of the big ones. Players directly coming from Serie A imo seem to adapt a little easier?
  13. His price has been going down the last three transfers, from €36m to Inter in 2015 to €22m to Valencia in 2018. Atletico paid just €15m for him 1.5 years ago. Shouldn’t be a high fee, he is 29 now after all.
  14. If only Bayern became a little worse than they already are, maybe every german player could stop having it as their life goal to go there.
  15. Would Gerrard really count as a philosophy manager? Some of the complaints seem to be the same almost regardless of club. Fans often complain about the state of their own midfield, about being too nice and having strikers that don’t score.
  16. Imagine them going for a ”modern” coach who wants them to start playing out from the back.
  17. We have Norwich at home on the 30th. Would Gerrard survive losing to Smith at home at this point?
  18. Strikers are currently a headache for most clubs, certainly in this league. It’s not just us. Spurs are happy Kane is back on form, and Liverpool’s fluid shape works. But the rest? Chelsea need a striker, Man U need one, Man C don’t even have one, Arsenal desperately need one, Wolves’ striker doesn’t score, West Ham also need one. Still those teams score goals.
  19. I’d basically agree with this. Sell Ings and Davis. Watkins hasn’t had a great season but can still be an important player, while Archer is more of a pure finisher but still not quite ready so I’d keep but loan him out. Sign one. Difficult but maybe Schick if we could afford it.
  20. The trend is definitely increased player power and more ”free” transfers after contracts running out. Less transfer fees, higher wages and more difficult to move players in and out.
  21. I’ve seen many complain about Martinez who, tbf, has the game management skills to fit right in at Atletico.
  22. Villa’s image seems to be changing. Here on VT the general view is always Villa are too nice, but other fans now paint us as some sort of English version of Atletico. Violent, time wasting criminals. This from The Athletic
  23. Much the opposite this season, Felix has been in top form while Suarez often has been benched.
  24. I’m sure other teams scout us enough to know about the basic way we build. It’s usually Mings and Luiz involved from deep while fullbacks advance. So, it doesn’t really matter if Konsa or Mings has the ball since Konsa will usually give it back to Mings before advancing further. That said, for teams that press high it’s always nice when the opposition gets nervous and plays long. When Mings has options to play a shorter pass up the pitch, he doesn’t hoof it.
