  1. You are right, time goes past too quickly., Christ, that was a bad Jan window .
  2. Exactly, so if we sell a player, say 3 years after we purchase him then the profit on his sale will be for the FFP period in years 4, 5, and 6 (depending on what moth he was sold but I am assuming the summer transfer window. The cost of wages that are a loss from a P&L perspective will be applicable to years 1,2 and 3 of the players contract. This means that selling a freebie signing will give greater future FFP scope.
  3. I completely agreed with your comment when I read it and it was only afterwards I actually thought about it and I can't think of a higher profile player to sign for AVFC while still in his prime
  4. It is only 24 months since we signed Borja Baston in the Jan window and 12 months since we signed Ally Samatta in the Jan window. It appears that transfer policy may have changed slightly this Jan
  5. its not so much random, it is happens about every half hour
  6. Profit does not take into account wages, it is based on transfer fee. In the accounting year we sell the player we would make a bigger accounting profit on the free transfer player. Obviously, over the course of the contract we would have increased operational costs due to higher wages but these are in different accounting years. From an FFP perspective, it would give us greater future spending power making more profit on the player sale
  7. All bases need to be covered and the get of of jail needs to be put in writing
  8. The question was reputation or stature. I believe that a player's stature in football diminishes with age and as they leave their prime as a player. To me Coutinho would be a far more impressive signing to our signing of Pires
  9. I am 53 and was thinking (hoping) I had already shot my both, I now realise I just wet myself
  10. Jack didn't play for any of them
  11. But he was 36/37 when he joined Villa. Coutinho is 29. I am sure there are many players of his stature aged 36+ that we could sign if we wanted to. The player being in his prime years makes a huge difference
  12. 100% down to Gerrard to decide, it needs to be based on footballing reasons. But should it not be Coutinho till June plus 20m/25m from the sale of Doug to invest in a new player e.g. McKennie or keeping Doug till 2026
  13. Makes no difference. It is down to the total cost of player + wages. A free signing on 10m a year for 4 years is the same impact as a 20m player on 5m a year for 4 years. However, if we go to sell the player then it makes a big difference as the profit on a free player would be substantially than the profit on a player we paid 20m for (assuming they were sold for the same price). More profit means more FFP scope to invest
  14. If that happens we tell Luiz' agent to F off and we transfer list him if he doesn't sign. That type of problem will always exist and it is just the numbers that differ. The club need to manage players expectations and salary demands and the club need to have the balls to refuse. We should pay player what we think they are worth paying. If they don't like it then we part company
  15. I had to think who the 6th was
  16. I have never seen the guy play. I just looked at a YouTube clip tonight. I am not overly impressed, hopefully I am missing something.
  17. The cost of the option to buy would scare me but it is a wonderful sign of the support and ambition NSWE have in not just AVFC but also in Purslow and Gerrard
  18. Just thinking about that assertion. Could the 'for 30 years' be changed to 'ever'?
  19. If we do sign Coutinho it will mean lots of coverage on Sky and MOTD. He would be a massive media pull
  20. Its a Villa thread about a foreign player, clearly it will be 50 different spellings of his name first. But the 50 pages will come soon after
  21. That's a little better than the YouTube on Hickey
  22. And who it was against made it just so much better too
  23. Thanks, Looks a technically skilful player. Concerns would be that he is only 5'9", so I can't imagine he would be great at defending crosses into the box. Also, very few if any highlights of him crossing the ball into the box. I expected to see clips of a fast FB flying down the line and crossing the ball beautifully into the middle of the box
  24. Has anyone actually seen Hickey play. If he was standing beside me in the pub I would have no idea who he was. I don't think I have ever seen him play but I have seen some stats. Has anyone that has actually seen him play (other than highlights) got a view on how good a player he is?
  25. Huttoninho looks well on SSN. Still love his goal against the poor neighbours
