  1. Is that not an assumed con by you as opposed to a con? It could just as easily read that by dropping down from Barca to Villa he wants to prove himself as the world class player he is and working with Gerrard again is just the motivation he needs to show the world how he can shine. He will be playing for his past captain so no chance of Billy Big Bollox there as there authority lines are already there. It is just how one wants to view it
  2. If he cost us 30m in the summer I would be happy with that. Obviously we wouldn't sign him if he wasn't a success but 30m for a player of his calibre is chump change. But for now, he will be costing us relatively **** all for the loan, maybe 7m to 10m which covers wages too
  3. A couple of places higher is worth 7m quid
  4. Yeah, but my local club has better facilities than Newcastle. Money is important but the working environment is also very important and particularly so when u have shit loads of cash in the bank already. Why would Coutinho sign for a club with crap facilities that is a horrible place to go to work every day? Thanks to NSWE, we have state of the art facilities and can offer a fabulous working environment and our owners don't chop journalists heads off and chop them up into little bits when they say nasty truthful things about them.
  5. Thx, I had a read of the Everton forum. They backup what u say and they also really rate him. They think he will be a big success at another PL club
  6. yeah i agree with u on that. But that just shows our wage structure has changed imo. It will probably set a baseline for signing top players in the future but that is a consequence of becoming a top team. All the top clubs pay 100k+ wages and multiples of that too. If we want to join the party that appears to be the cover charge
  7. Isn't Danny Ings on 120k a week. How would paying another player the same be blowing our wage structure? Didn't we offer Jack 200k a week to stay at Villa. I suspect our wage structure may be different to what u believe it to be
  8. i haven't seen much of Digne with Eveton. But how the F can a player who can't get into an Everton team that is shyte have transfer talk for him is Man City and Chelsea?
  9. If he wasn't injured, wouldn't he be 50m/60m? I really can't see us dropping that amount of cash. But, if we sign Coutinho my understanding of Villa's transfer budget and strategy is potentially flawed
  10. If he was on the back of 20 consecutive games with 10 goals and 7 assists then there is no way we would be discussing him on here. Coutinho is a player that is above where AVFC currently stand. As a result of his difficulties at Barca, his injuries, Barca being a financial basket case and Gerrard as our manager means we have a sniff of a chance. We are not going to sign pedigree world class players unless there is some risk or problems with his recent seasons. If we want to up the standard of players we sign this is without question at the absolute highest level. He may not work out, there is big risk but the potential reward is HUGE
  11. Who are the big boys in the transfer window? 29 year old Countinho on loan with option to buy or 31 year old Trippier for 2 1/2 years for 12m
  12. I understand how contract extensions work. I am not sure this discussion is relevant to a Countinho thread. A poster asked if a freebie with high wages was the same as a transfer fee with low wages. I was just explaining the difference. We don't need to go into the detail of how and why it is different and FFP and accounting. That is too much like the day job. Can we just leave it at that and agree that there are differences
  13. WOW. This is something I really did not expect or think possible. I don't know if it will work out or be a good thing but fair play to NSWE, Purslow and Gerrard. This would be a statement signing
  14. I suppose that is the bottom line
  15. Holy crap. I hadn't looked at the odds. Deano, although he was absolutely massively supported by NSWE, must feel a little miffed with seeing this. I know I would if I were he
  16. Yep, I know that. Buy for 20m, extend after 2 years and u have 2.5m a year for the next 4 years assuming a 2 year extension. Sell in year 3 and there is 7.5m extra profit over the freebie signing for years 4,5 and 6 of FFP
  17. I think because they are both wanting to play in exactly the same position on the pitch. Ollie wants the role as striker and not out on the wing.
  18. That sounds like a cunning plan
  19. Stop those nasty posts. They bring back bad memories
  20. If the player is fully amortised then he is out of contract and leaves on a free. If we extend his contract we extend the amortisation period. The only way to get around that is to let his contract expire and let the player become a free agent and then sign him again as a freebie. If we sell a player he must be under contract
  21. Was the the brilliant window we also signed Danny Drinkwater?
  22. Do u think Ollie doesn't want his team mates scoring goals which could mean we finish higher up the table and possibly in Europe and increasing Ollie's end of year bonus?
  23. I would think Watkins would love to have Coutinho playing in the same team as him. I would expect Ollie to get more goals
  24. Yep, exactly the point I was trying to get across.
