  1. Burnley would surely want huge money for him now and equally he will want a sign on bonus and salary of that of a free agent. I really can't see this happening in Jan. The only club desperate enough to drop their pants and take it is Newcastle imo
  2. Club Statuses 1. Yo-You Club 2. Relegation Fodder 3. Lower half 4. mid table 5. Stepping Stone 6. Top 6 7. Top 4 8. Serious Challengers Yippee, our next stage in development is Top 6
  3. I agree, in Spain release clauses are mandatory in every player's contract.
  4. Are Toon not going to pay silly money for him
  5. Backup GK is about the most difficult position to attract quality to. The odds are they are just going to be a bench warmer so I understand us getting a GK like Olsen. He will be just about the best quality we could possibly attract imo
  6. I haven't seen anyone suggest this. I think upgrading any position on the field is a difficult task and some will be more difficult to others
  7. That sounds like u believe u are an expert in this field. I certainly am not, I am a football fan that spends too much time reading about it. I was shocked we signed Coutinho, I would not have thought that possible which shows the gap in knowledge between me and Lange et al. Before it became a reality did u fully expect us to have the ability to sign Coutinho?
  8. Are u saying that VT would have better insights? It doesn't appear clear
  9. Not sure the relevance of that in relation to my comment
  10. If it was so easy to find the right players why do clubs spend so much money on a scouting network? Are you suggesting that VT would have better insights to Lange et al?
  11. I agree with you Woody. The irony is that the people accusing others of having an agenda can't see clearly enough to realise that Mings makes too many errors to be the right CB to take us into the top 4. The bias in favour of Mings is unbelievable
  12. Lamps had Chelsea finish top 4 before TT arrived and Conte will find it very difficult to get to top 4 with Spurs this year but he is doing a very good job. Our highest finish in the PL for quite a while is 11th and that was last season. We need better players, we have add quite a few better players in the last 6 months but there is still a fair bit of room for improvement imo
  13. We just signed Digne too. We need to get better players in and we need to find these players. No excuses should be accepted
  14. I don't know this guy but this is the very reason I am hesitant. I don't want like for like, I want improvement. If we want to move up the table and qualify for Europe we need to improve our players
  15. I am not sure it is risk free. Maybe the financial risk maybe very low but the greater risk is the opportunity to get the right DCM in as part of our 1st 11. If we get the wrong guy it could limit our progression
  16. We will never know the 'facts' but it is reported that we bid 25m for him
  17. I don't see the relevance of the fact that Luiz has 18 months left. If we need to replace him then we should replace him with a better version. There will be lots of time in the summer to do this if necessary. The club a player plays for should not blinker us to the quality of the player. For example I would not want to see us buy Pogba and he plays for a bigger team to Juve
  18. Somehow I don't think he will find the answer
  19. with all due respect I didn't establish that he was an upgrade. I simply asked the question. My view is that we should be getting major upgrades when we get players and not going for like for like if we are looking to move up the table. Also, the comment I replied to suggested that he 'could' be an upgrade. If there is that much ambiguity about whether is in an upgrade or not then I would prefer to steer clear. That said, I know very little about the guy, fortunately it will be up to Gerrard et al to make a decision
  20. What is the 'No' in response to? Italy failed to qualify for the W/C and Mancini took over and got them playing better and qualified for the Euros and won it
  21. That's just normal players in and players out. If Doug goes then fine, we will get a decent fee hopefully but if we are going to replace him we should be looking to improve on quality and not get like for like. We need better players to push up the league
  22. If he is not a major upgrade on Doug should we really be looking at him?
  23. Doesn't sound like the sort of prep we need for a DCM coming into Villa.
  24. I suspect many people are like me and had to Google his name to see who he was and what team he played for. I haven't a clue whether he would be a good buy or a bad buy and I my opinion is based on what I am reading here.
