Don't they do that with just about nearly all their players, the only one I can think of that they renewed a contract for recently is Aubameyang. The exception is ESR.

I have a strange feeling that Chambers could turn to gold and be our best signing of the window. I have no reason for this other than a few cans of beers and in the back of my head Chambers is a quality player of international standard and Gerrard et al will get the best out of him

They nearly announced a few. They made a lot of progress in various discussions but then with the player or the club told them to F off. Latest rumour tonight was that Ash Young said he didn't want to join them (I am not joking)

As a free transfer I suspect his wages are comparable, if not lower to Tuanzebe's as he just signed a new contract. And we own the contract and don't have to worry about replacing Axel in the summer. If we bought Axel he would probably cost 10m+. Financially, this is a very smart acquisition. Hopefully, he will turn out to be a smart acquisition from a footballing perspective as well

The giveaway is VillaTALK It doesn't matter who we sign, we will TALK about them. That generally means discussing the positives and the negatives about the players. It doesn't have to be boolean and be we love him or hate him. Most people like the players we are signing but they have an open mind to see BOTH the positives and the negatives. Chambers is a decent player and maybe a smart purchase but we are allowed to discuss the negatives. I don't think it would be possible to sign a 27 year CB from Arsenal on a free that doesn't have any negatives

He is only 27! I was thinking 29/30. He must have been a real bright spark as a 19/20 year old. He has a good reputation from years ago and then gone off the boil. 27 is a great age for a free transfer for an England international
