If Targett has a half decent finish to the season I can see Toon paying the 20m for him. They will need a lot of transfer activity in the summer, wingers and midfield and strikers are a must for Toon plus another CB. If they stay up they will want as much continuity on the squad as possible and it would make sense to keep Targett. If they go down then Target is perfect as he has Championship experience and they would struggle to attract better quality as a Chumps club. I reckon Purslow believes the summer transfer of Targett to Toon is as good as confirmed barring serious injury and that is why I believe they accepted the loan. Toon management are not as stupid as Toon fans are and they will be wary of FFP hence a loan suited them better.

This, 100%. As per my comment above. NSWE have said their aim is sustainability.

I get that extending the contracts reduces the annual amortisation but it just pushes it to another year, it is not a financial benefit to us and it will impact future years P&L. That said it is a fairly minimal amount. It doesn't take away from the fact that our costs are Skyrocketing and we should not be looking at sales revenue as an excuse to spend more money. This is the last year we have the Championship P&L as part of our FFP, but that just means we are allowed to lose more money, which means we can spend more but it is still not healthy for a business. NSWE have stated (via Purslow) that their aim to to make the club sustainable, their aim is not to inject capital year on year. If that was their aim I would be very concerned with them as our custodians. Being sustainable means that the club is self sufficient and does not need year on year cash injections. Our transfers net spend in the last 12 months is close to sustainable and yet we are still improving our squad. This is what we need to continue to try and achieve.

Our payroll has increased significantly since last year. Gerrard, Ings, Bailey, Buendia, Digne and not to forget Coutinhao are all very high earners. Furthermore, we have renewed some contracts which gave pay rises to McGinn and Konsa (anyone else renew?) and the potential to renew Doug's contract which means another pay rise. We also have Gerrard's sizeable backroom team to pay too. We are not talking small change here, this is easily between 10m & 20m increase in our costs. We need to pay the bills before we jump into spending cash received from transfers. The cash received from these potential transfers will already be forecast and added to budgets

We already have a huge profit from an accounting perspective for this financial window as a result of the sale of Jack. We could probably spend another 250m on players and still be in profit for this season. Not spending now will not impact our ability to invest in the summer, it is three and four years down the road when we will be able to realise the benefit of not spending now on future sales

Are we not trying to be one of the apparent 'scum six'. What will your view be if NSWE are successful with buying their way (450m in a few year) and using FFP loopholes (selling Villa Park) and we manage to join the top tier in the PL?

It says a lot about Aaron Ramsey that Rangers have a bigger pulling power than Toon.
-
They did pay 25m for Wood who has managed 3 goals this season
-
Of course it is financially beneficial to us. We don't need to see the numbers. Toon will be paying a fee and wages.

I think Doug will sign a new contract and stay, I see Ollie off in the summer and Ings staying and playing a bit part role to maintain his fitness and being a really good sub / backup and adding great experience to the dressing room and a brilliant striker to help develop Archer and others.

It was 22 years ago and he still gets grief about it. He brought his, then 14 year old son to the game too. He lives in Dublin and is a bloody double season ticket holder for O/T. He is mad about Utd. I am with u, I just don't get the mentality of leaving a game early.

But most of our players were either loans or too old or just crap. We have completely changed that now and have a squad that will command transfer fees when they leave. Great turnaround by Purslow

Bloody hell, Aubameyang is a permanent deal on a free transfer. He cost Arsenal a hell of a lot of cash. So Arsenal have only two forwards now and both are out of contract in the summer. If Ollie has a good second half of the season he could be off to Arsenal in the summer (for a very healthy profit)

I can see him ripping it up in Spain. The game will suit him more and the move may give him a bit of a motivational kick up the ass. He is apparently taking a pay cut so there must be a little bit of him wants to make the move happen

We already have a few players playing higher up the pitch, we really should be looking for a proper no6, Bentancur isn't that player, someone like Bissouma would be much better

I get that and agree, but the benefit to us is probably about 5m and then there will be a fair chance it becomes permanent in the summer for 20m/25m
