  1. It would be interesting to have an assistant manager with similar pulling power and stature to our manager. He must have a few good contacts on his phone
  2. Also, we can't forget that we are a business and at some stage NSWE and CP want to see us as a revenue generator and not just an expense item. Realising anything near 10m for a player that probably has a book value of about 2m/3m would be a really positive step in the right direction. We need to be doing this type of thing year in year out. Someone mentioned the other day that Bannan, Robinson and Enda Stevens all left for free and forged decent Championship careers. We must stop this leakage of revenue from Villa's accounts and become much smarter in the transfer market and particularly at the disposal of players. I, and am sure many others, are sick of releasing players for free or paying them to leave.
  3. Its not different. We own him and if we can sell him for 10m/15m then we could have that money in the bank plus the added advantage of helping with FFP. Davis is an asset the club owns. The club can elect to keep that asset as the player or exchange that asset for cash. The club will decide which asset is better for the club. If the club believe that it would be better to keep the asset in the form of a player that is EXACTLY the same as electing to spend the same amount of money on the player. People saying they would refuse 15m for Davis are in effect saying they would spend 15m on Davis
  4. Care to show a quote to back that up or is it easier to just make accusations
  5. Yes, there is that potential, so why would you not want to buy him for 10m/15m?
  6. We have a 4 game international break to get through and then players will understandably want a holiday. This thread will be in meltdown in about 3 weeks time calling for Gerrard's head and postulating that NSWE are no longer committed to the project
  7. If we wouldn't pay that amount for him then it makes zero logic to not sell him for that amount. A sale of 15m would be 15m profit. A purchase of 15m would only be a little less than 4m of a loss this year (but another 4m loss each of the next 4 years). Edit: If 12 months out on loan may improve him then why would u not want to purchase him and send him out on loan to be able to realise the same 'profit/benefit' as we would by keeping him? It would be a crazy speculative risk of 15m when just about all the signs suggest it won't pay off. We need to manage the business aspect of Villa well, and not selling Davis when he is clearly not in our plans would be bad business, particularly so, as Davis in potentially currently at his highest valuation he will ever be at
  8. I agree, but some people think we should hold onto him unless we get 15m/20m. 15m on our profit accounts make a huge difference to us. That gives us a potential 60m in FFP transfer fee allowance in the next 3 years. I would be madness not to keep him.
  9. Would u pay 10m to 15m for him in this window?
  10. I don't like his feigning injury but other than that I would love him at Villa. I was reading about him last night as I pondered him joining Villa and discovered he is only 25. I thought he was about 29. He seems to have been around for ever. He would be a big upgrade on Ollie is we could flog him
  11. Ah, so as one gets older you get more mature. mmm... Coutinho, Carlos and Digne... does maturity add consistency to a football team I wonder?
  12. FFS Nick, I am actively looking at each new post you make looking for something that I vehemently disagree with but I agree with all of your posts. What has happened to us?
  13. Roy Keane would like commenting on our games.
  14. I get where u are coming from but Bassy would be a step up from a youth player. He is 22 and has played for Rangers for 2 seasons and had a very successful Europa campaign getting MOTM in the final. I agree he is not PL ready yet but he can't be too far off it. I would be much more comfortable having him on the bench than a youth player. As regards spending 25m. Yes, it is a lot for a backup but if the club is willing to spend it I am happy for them to do so
  15. I agree, but he looks like he would be a nice buy for the future. We would be a better backup LB than we currently have and as mentioned he can also play as CB if required. He would be an upgrade on Hause imo and one that has a lot of potential uplift in the future too
  16. How can u say it is unrealistic when the manager and owners have just added Kamara, Coutinho and Carlos to the squad which follows on from Digne and Chambers in Jan. The have shown us that they are recruiting quality. It is not unrealistic to expect them to upgrade Nakamba and some other fringe players
  17. We can still upgrade them. We finished 14th with those existing options. We need better
  18. I disagree, we don't want a million players but I do want 24. There is no reason why we can't sign Bissouma, Bassy, Tarkowski and a striker. That would make us so much stronger and give us much more depth
  19. I might even put on a pair of cream chinos and a pair of shoes for the occasion
  20. I agree, also, we don't have the depth to cope with injuries for a sustained push. If we lost Kamara and Carlos through injury we are basically back to last year's team. Another CB, another DM, back up LB and a clinical striker are needed before Villa can dream about competing at the business end of the league. It is getting depth of quality in these position which will make us more consistent
  21. No doubt we will get a few quid in compensation too, I assume Beale will take some of the backroom team with him too. It will be really interesting to see who we replace him with as it will give us a clear indication on the style of play to be implemented. I would like to see a real surprise appointment, maybe from a European team
  22. Yeah, the Red Tops and Sky are very quiet on Toon. I think they are a little worried about leaving egg of their faces. Even the appointment of Ashworth, although a quality appointment, he is not exactly got a track record of buying expensive players ready to hit the ground running. He is good at looking for cheap alternatives that can be developed. This is not the approach that the Toon fans are hoping for. So far this summer they have only managed to tie Sean Longstaff to a long term contract. That in itself speaks a lot I think and it would be concerning for a Toon fan to accept Longstff is part of their longer term plans. It will be a funny summer and there may be a few tears on the Tyne come the start of next season
  23. We could but wasn't the strategy to get an unproven one and take the risk that he can work out? I assume we will give him some time to do this and if he fails we will sack him
  24. We don't know how Newcastle will be in this transfer window. When they bought the club Amanda said they will invest but she also said it will take some time etc. They may not be going to break the bank in this window. I read one report saying their budget this window was 60m. They just splashed out on buying the club and they had an expensive Jan window. People keep saying they are the richest club but they are owned by an investment that has all the money. Newcastle United does not have this money. Investment in Newcastle will be weight up against other investments owned by PIF. If it is just sportwashing then they have achieved much of their goal already by owning a PL club and keeping them in the PL. There is no need from them to be silly with money which would only draw more attention to the sportswashing aspect of what they are doing, Lying low and keeping your name in the PL for a few years maybe the strategy. Furthermore, a window of low spend would get the market to realise that when Newcastle come calling they can't simply double the asking price
  25. My sources say he has two pairs in his favourite colours
