Also, there is the post Bruce effect. Too many people think Eddie Howe is a genius for what he did with Newcastle and they expect this to continue. However, Toon had 3 years of Bruce playing Bruceball, If I became their manager I would have improved them, plus they spent a truck load of money in Jan. Improvement next season will be much much more difficult
I didn't say they don't have a lots of wiggle room with FFP, but they do not have billions nor unlimited funds, which is what some people suggest they have
People are struggling to comprehend that Newcastle United and PIF are different entities. NSWE are worth billions but Villa does not have billions to spend. It isn't that difficult a concept to understand
You think Newcastle are about to have a title charge? Did you see the LB they are in the process of signing as their first choice left back? He is nowhere near title charge level. However, French International Lucas Digne would be the type of player for a title charge. I wouldn't like to see us keep pace with Toon. I prefer the way we are buying better players and better quality. I also like the way we are investing hugely in our youth players.
Apparently we overpaid when we shelled out 14m for him (Purslow and Villa are bad), now that we are selling him for 15m we are undervaluing him (Purslow and Villa are bad)
Well done to the recruitment team and Purslow if they can close this deal off. 12m/15m is great money for a player that would easily have become part of a bomb squad sitting on the bench earning 3m a year for the next few years. The transfer window isn't even open yet and we have managed to get 4 players in and it looks like we have finally managed to actually sell a player we didn't want for some decent money. Long may this type of activity continue at Villa Park
The debate on here is crazy, arguing about +/- 3m or 4m on the sale price of a player that didn't want to be at the club and has absolutely ZERO chance of getting a move to one of the better teams. And this is only our 3rd/4th transfer over 10m in about a decade.
Toon get a midtable PL left back that we replaced with Digne and we get money to buy another player to improve our squad further. I prefer the way this worked out for Villa than it did for Newcastle
Toon don't have unlimited resources, they are subject to FFP like the rest of us and they are trying to build a better squad. What should have been sorted in Jan? It is being reported that the fee was agreed in the loan deal in Jan
I am not sure why people think 12m or 15m or whatever it is is bad value. If Villa were selling Target at an undervalue fee then why isn't there a queue of other clubs putting. in bids?
Clubs often need incentive to sell as they may not have planned to offload a player. If we go in with a mediocre offer the club may just say No as it would cost them too much hassle and cash to get a replacement. By offering above odds the club will be more likely to sell, will do so quickly and we get a much needed player
Toon try to buy Digne in Jan and fail. They then think they are looking for better than Digne and they all think they are getting Lodi. Instead Villa sign Digne and offload our surplus squad players to Toon. It must be great being a fan of the richest club in the world
