    You are not wrong. The reason they don't 'clear' people is because they don't have anything to clear him from. Police investigate thousands of people every day, they don't formally clear people after investigation.

    Offload Hause for 7m and add that to the 15m from Targett and that will be about what we would pay for Bassey. Add it that his wages would be less than the combined wages of Targett and Hause and there is a lot to like about this deal from a financial perspective. From a player perspective, he is hard, young, versatile and has lots of potential and a fair bit of experience. Gerrard bought him before and has worked with him so this transfer looks like a very good fit for Villa

    Juve desperate to get him off their books. They have a mandatory buy option of 25m GBP for next summer and 3.5m loan fee for this coming season plus 3.5m for last season. They will be burdened with a big loss if they can't offload him, I assume they believe his value is higher now than it will be this time next year

    I think we will see interest in Bassey heat up now. He fits our requirements very well in that he can cover, and push for a starting place as a CB or LB. This would be perfect for us and would mean we can sell Hause.

    They could sign him permanently now, they have lots of money as they don't spend much and they have parachute payments too.

    He was a free agent this summer, he could sign for any club he wanted. Liverpool did not need to keep him an extra year but they elected to keep him as Klopp no doubts believes that Liverpool will be a stronger team having Jimmy in it.

    No, I think people are forgetting that we got the use of him as a player for the last 3 years or so and he helped us stay in the PL. The fact that we have already accounted for about 75% of the original transfer fee means we are making a profit of about 10m+ this year which helps towards FFP. Further, we have future losses of about 3m that we no longer have to absorb and we save 3m a year on wages.

    I am not sure I agree with that. They are already saying getting Targett is better than bringing in Digne or Lodi

    20m for 7 players is fairly meaningless if the players are only worth 3m each. As regards could easily have got 20m in Jan, do you really think Purslow is that inexperienced and weak a negotiator? as for selling players at their peak, yeah u may have a point, we potentially could have offloaded AEG and Trez earlier but the last few years have been difficult as a club as we needed players to keep us in the Prem and AEG and Trez proved crucial to our survival. Also, if nobody bids for them we can’t sell them

    Since NSWE and Purslow have come to Villa, how many players have we sold that were of any quality? What players do you think we should have held out for more money ?

    WOW I would hate to have a club where the CEO and DoF can sell players without the agreement nor advice of the manager.

    TBH, if the fee was 20m or 25m I think the discussion would be exactly the same on here with just different numbers used. Debating a 3m or 4m on a transfer for a Premier League club is a bit of a nonsense. None of us know the actual amount and none of us know the details of our financials. However, we do know that registering a 10m odd profit and taking 3m off our wage bill is very positive for the club. Furthermore, we are not adding to a potential bomb squad of players. But some see that as being a soft touch. I wonder how much praise Purslow would have got if we were stuck with Targett on our books next season because he was holding out for more money so we were not seen as a soft touch
