  1. That's the hope and his character does suggest that he will do everything he possibly can to make it work. I just hope he is able to deliver. It would be great to go into a game and not be wondering which Villa side is going to show up today. I am looking forward to going into games I expect to win and having a relaxing afternoon / evening watching us get a straightforward professional win with no squeaky bum feelings
  2. I don't see the Utd or Chelsea jobs coming available to quite some time. They both have very good managers and I expect them to be safe. I see no reason why MoPo would go to Toon over us.
  3. Do u have to actually watch a player before expertly commenting on how he would transform us into a top 7 club? I must read the VT terms & conditions again.
  4. My dream manager for Villa. I would love to see him take on Villa. You now have me hoping we will be 11th by the time the WC break kicks in
  5. I posted in the Gerrard thread that I believe he will be sacked in the next 6 months or he will be with us for a number of years. I think u hit the nail on the head with having stuff that is easy to fix. Deano wasn't able to fix it and so far what we have seen of Gerrard he has not been able to fix it either. However, I will give Gerrard some rope as he was only new to the job, new to the PL and he didn't have any of his players in when he joined us and the objective had to have been to avoid relegation at all costs, therefore the scope to try new things was limited. However, this season is different, a good pre season, his own players and no immediate pressure of relegation. Gerrard needs to be able to demonstrate over the next 17 league games that he can fix the issues and make Villa more consistent.
  6. If we start any of the 3 strikers we have in every game then I expect each of them would score 10 goals from open play (Note: I am not saying starting all 3 would mean 10 goals each )
  7. I suspect the threat of relegation had a bearing on the decision too
  8. Under Smith just about everyone said they would be happy with a top 10 place, that has not changed with Gerrard. Nobody is saying that their aim is 10th, everyone is saying we what to be fighting for a European place but people are also saying they don't believe we will get Europe but it would be good to finish top half. We haven't finished top half in over a decade. The goal posts are not changing because we have changed manager
  9. I disagree with that. Our goal should be to invest in the right players at Villa to bring Villa forward. We got Kamara on a free and they are signing Onana for 33.5m, I much prefer Kamara to Onana
  10. They are the gift that keeps on giving. Some more info on it... https://www.rfa.org/english/news/cambodia/cambodia-wang-yaohui-efl-08032022144335.html
  11. I have never heard it called sunshine and roses. Next time I will ask for a 10 spot of sunshine & roses
  12. I am not saying don't spend money because we may not do well. I am saying we don't have loads of room with FFP and we need to be carful with our spend. We have invested a fortune into players and wages etc this summer. The club appear to be taking calculated risk with our spend. I like that
  13. We haven't finished as high as 10th in the PL since 2009/10. We are not drifting around 10th, it is an aspiration to break into the top 10
  14. Money spent is guaranteed to be on our accounts. New revenue through European qualification is not guaranteed and carries high risk
  15. I think we will be really pushing at the top 7 and potentially a break into the top 4/5 (with lots of luck) the season after next
  16. We may have the FFP room to buy players now but it will impact our spending next year. We need to keep money for that and we also need to plan for a potential change in manager this season (not saying it will happen but I would be shocked if Purslow isn't budgeting it), the associated costs and the new transfer budget for the replacement
  17. I can see us finishing between 7th and 14th but I expect 8th or 9th
  18. I agree with the point on loans becoming permanent. I suspect like most fans I would like to see more quality signings. But every year it is the same, we just need one or two more to make the next step up. The fan in me wants to see us sign Sangare and a striker and another attacking midfield. However, I try to keep my self in the real world and take each window as a gradual improvement. When I look back year on year since NSWE bought us I am very very happy with what is happen to our squad
  19. I want another player, I would be happy to see 2 or 3 new quality signings. But that is the football fan in me. I am trying to be realistic with what makes sense for the club
  20. I think the underwhelmed feeling is down to timing. If we signed Coutinho, Carlos, Kamara, Augustinssson and Olsen in the last 3 weeks this place would be buzzing. But of course, there would be people moaning that we left it too late to do our business and now the players have missed the all important pre season
  21. Well spotted and thank you for highlighting. But SG does say this is what Purslow's objective is so it ain't a bad reference
  22. I agree, we are close and need more quality, I am happy to see that come in increments over a number of windows. Last Jan was a stunning window, hopefully another one like that in 6 months. And yes, Purslow saying the objective was 7th is a myth. Look at my post a bit higher up, it has the exact quote.
  23. I posted Purslow's exact quote, its fairly clear what his objective and expectations are
