  1. I heard that, but didn't see a direct quote. It is hard to believe Everton has 33.5m to spend on a DM when they only have 1 striker and he is out injured and they don't seem to be able to add another. Also, they look to be trying to get Gana in on loan as a DM.
  2. And after agreeing 33.5m for Onana the deal has now fallen through as they couldn't agree personal terms.
  3. Cornet off to Hammers as they met the release clause. I am glad we didn't go for him
  4. Newcastle is a midtable team and have been for a long time, the problem they had was Bruce was manager and he was awful and had them underperforming. Howe came in and started to actually coach them and apply footballing tactics to a game. He also brought in a few new players. The rise of Newcastle under Howe was stunning but any half decent manager would have achieved similar. It is going to be a shock to the Toon fans this year when they don't witness the week on week progression they enjoyed last year.
  5. I thought we may see Doug get 8, not Sanson. Was Sanson always 8?
  6. Kamara is to wear number 44. Does that mean we are looking for a new no6 and to replace him before the window closes
  7. Archer as 1st sub is a bit of a risk imo. I doubt we will se him start and I think u need a guaranteed starter on the bench as 1st sub or u risk only getting 1 point if one of your 1st 11 doesn't start
  8. I was doing an annual review with a guy one year and the subject of salary came up and I explained the increase he was getting and the logic behind it. At the end of the review I asked him if he was happy with his pay rise (which was a very healthy one). His response was 'Everyone would be happier if they got a pay rise 50% more than they actually got, but that, yes he was happy with it. I think the same applies to managers and the transfer window. I don't think any manager will say they are completely happy with their transfer window and that they are disappointed that they didn't get that one extra signing they wanted.
  9. I think Gerrard won't be happy until he has changed a lot more of our squad. I did say I thought Gerrard was 'happy enough' with the strikers. He would clearly like upgrades but he is realistic too with regard to players in / out and what is achievable in each window imo
  10. I agree with that. We don't need another and there is no real market (imo) to buy either Ings or Ollie. I think if a suitable bid came in, Gerrard may fancy accepting it and getting a new guy in but I think he is happy enough with what he has
  11. Agreed. Also if we sell a player it is generally because we are going to get a better player in to replace them, therefore the gap between us and the team we sell the player to increases
  12. I agree but selling a player for the same price we purchased him is very profitable. We have got use out of Ollie for the last couple of years so and we have also amortised half his purchase price. If we got the same back as we paid it would be very positive from a financial perspective. It would be like we had Ollie on a free transfer for 2 years and just had to pay his wages. The more players we can do this with the better. It is such a killer losing players at the end of their contract, and even more so when they have sat on the bench for the previous 12/18 months
  13. Personally I don't care who we sell to if they meet our asking price and nor do I buy into this idea of charging extra as we are selling to our rivals. Jesus just went to Arsenal for 45m and Sterling to Chelsea for 47m, if u think we can get 50m+ for Ollie then I wish you would take over negotiations at Villa Park, you probably would have got 40m for Chuk.
  14. Clickbait at its best... followed by... https://www.footballfancast.com/aston-villa-news/avfc-latest-team-injury-news-updates-el-ghazi-davis-gerrard-squad-afcb-preview-premier-league-gossip
  15. I can't see anyone giving us the money we want for Ollie, I assume we would not accept less than 35m so that limits the number of clubs. It would be Leicester, Saints or Brighton imo. Leicester appear to have no appetite to spend and 35m would be too much for the others. Maybe an outside chance of Newcastle but other than that I think Ollie is ours for another year at least. Ings could maybe get a bid of circa 20m which would open it up to more clubs but then wages become a problem
  16. Gerrard messed up and said we will be competing in the top half of the table. Tarkowski said he is used to relegation battles and likes them so elected to sign for Everton instead.
  17. Yeah, I can't see us getting another striker without Ollie or Ings leaving. I would like to see if we could cash in on Ollie and get an upgrade.
  18. The top 6 managers are looking more secure now than they have in a very long time imo.
  19. Newcastle do not have unlimited funds. That is a myth the media like to spread as it creates clickbait headlines. Its like saying Villa has unlimited funds. Newcastle is owned by PIF, it is one of many many investments that PIF own. PIF money is not Newcastle money. We are owned by NSWE they have multiple billions between them. From a footballing perspective that is relatively unlimited funds too. Also, clubs are constrained by FFP which Newcastle must adhere to.
