We don't know what our budget is and what money is available. It not just about this window, Purslow needs to ensure we have funds to invest in Jan and next summer and beyond. We have the last 3 seasons on amortisation costs on our accounts this season too and we have to adhere to FFP. We have also significantly increased our wage bill. On top of that, Purslows need to plan for new costs which are not expected to happen this season. For example, if we want to have the financial scope to sack Gerrard in Nov and get a new manager in that will cost a lot between paying off SG and backroom staff and paying for a new manager and his backroom staff. We could get lucky and get an unemployed manager e.g. Poch or we may have to pay compensation to another club. And if we get a new manager, he will want his own war chest for Jan and next summer.

I mostly agree with that, it is a tough call though. However, before the transfer window opened it is clear that the people at Villa decided that a CB was the priority position, hence they spend 26m on one and not on a CM. To go and buy a CM now ahead of a CB would surely require them to reverse that decision.

Yeah, but life isn't always about money. People like to work and have a focus in life. His only real qualifications are football related so the type of jobs available are limited. Working as a pundit must be great fun, interesting and keeps him involved in a game that has been a huge part of his life.

I think that is the big debate question. We all know that SG is a rookie manager and learning to adapt to the PL, which is a different debate completely. But the fact that we have a rookie manager means we need to give him time to see if he learns enough and if he will be successful. This season will be huge for SG and his career. None of us know how it will work out. Some are convinced he will fail and some are unsure. The only way to find out is to give him enough scope to try and succeed. If he fails he will be fired. Our transfers will have a bearing on judging his success/failure as he has input into who we buy and he has responsibility to get them to play well. Carlos is. big blow, it will be interesting to see if Purslow supports him further in this window or if he thinks SG has had enough support and now is the time to prove your worth

I agree with that, but it does make me think that Leicester may have put in the hard work of getting the guy to England and by now it is reasonable to assume he is more used to England than when he just arrived. Could it be an opportunity to grab a player that has gone through the acclimatisation process and is ready to kick on? (yes a glass half full view )

I am not sure what u disagree with. It is on record what the club's ambitions are for this year. It is not my opinion it is information provided to us from the club

From what has been published in the media the club disagree with you on that. They have said the aim this season is top half and a push for Europe. They have not said that this season's target is European qualification. The discourse across the different topics on VT is that we have a squad for top half.

I think people are reading too much into Souness and this debate. Souness is a football pundit. He earns money talking about football and football players. He is not going to get slots on Sky or other channels if he is not in the media. He is playing the game and doing quite well at it. The discussion on here is exactly what Souness wants. Mings replying to him was again exactly what he wants. The more links and mentions etc that he gets about this is simply playing into his hands and ultimately his bank account.
-
I agree but a good offer for Mings would be extremely tempting from a financial perspective. He is only going down in value as each season passes from now on and he is still on our books with amortisation costs for the next 2 years. 25m now would be really positive for FFP and would give us greater scope to spend. It would be a ballsy move though

It would be a bit of a bold move to sell Mings and get 2 new CBs in.

I am not sure which part of that statement is the more ridiculous. Is it that losing a key member of the 1st 11 shouldn't impact results over the season or that Liverpool, as Premier League Champions had the target that year of simply finishing in the top 4.

But we still have the Jan window to come. If u are including last Jan's purchases in last year's squad then for consistency should we not be waiting till the end of the next Jan window to have a fair comparison?

I must admit I was surprised when I read it and it is very very scary. I wish I read it in The Sun or Brum Live but unfortunately it is from a reputable source. If 22% don't make it back to playing, I hate to think of the additional players that make it back but never regain their pace or mojo and return at a level below that before injury

Its 22% of soccer players do not return from a ruptured achilles
-
That doesn't make sense, otherwise they wouldn't have spent 26m on a new CB

I get what u are saying but we may not be in the Premier League and may not have had the opportunity to buy those players. We needed ElGhazi and Trez to win promotion and particularly so El Ghazi. Then in our first year up, we would not have survived without the goals from Trez. It is not just about getting the right players, we need the right players at the right time for our club

Maybe Liverpool are deliberately starting him tonight so as to put him in the shop window and tempt Gerrard to buy him.

Konsa is a very good defender but he has been out injured. The only way he will get his form back is to play games. Its a bit of a catch 22 if we want Konsa back to his best yet don't want to give him the game time to get back to his best
-
I would view that as a positive rather than a negative
