  1. What about the amortisation costs related to Sanson, Traore, Watkins, Wesley, Luiz and all the others we bought. We have to pay the amortisation costs every year and not just in year 1
  2. Where are u getting 80m-100m from? Our last published revenue was 112m. Our costs are huge with all the player amortised payments and salaries. We are nowhere close to 80m-100m based on our revenue unless we can sell a 100m player every season
  3. I agree Tammy is a good player but I don't believe he is good enough for AVFC and where we are going. He is a completely different striker to Ollie and doesn't do anything like the job Ollie does on the pitch. Danny Ings is a far more accomplished finisher than Tammy and as such the likelihood is that Ings will score more goals for Villa in the next two season that Tammy would. As much as I love Tammy for his time at Villa I see no objective reason why we would want Tammy at Villa this season. Yes, I would take him on the bench ahead of Davis but I am being realistic as opposed to fantasy stuff. I am not saying he will come back to the PL. He can play at Villa Park in a European game. If Tammy does extremely well at Roma he will increase in value and then I would see Chelsea buying him back. When Ings slows down it will be interesting to see what Villa do then but that is still a while away yet and who knows what will happen between now and then. We could have a different Head Coach, we could be in Europe and able to attract higher quality players or we have have unearthed and goal machine from our youth setup.
  4. As a GK I expect he is tall so he would probably fit in perfectly as a new DM
  5. Although they are theoretically free, the good quality Bosman's don't work out that way. Players know their worth and agents ensure sign on bonus, agent fees and wages are inflated to reflect the lack of transfer fee.
  6. We don't need Tammy and we should be buying better strikers that him when we do get a new striker. Both Ollie and Ings are better for Villa now and Tammy needs far too many chances to convert. It appears the people that count at Villa also understand this so I really don't expect to see Tammy at Villa Park again unless he is playing for the away team
  7. I think the technique is there... 1st British based kid to join the Barcelona youth academy Aged 16 he made his debut for Barca u19 and scored on his debut Scored 10 goals in 5 games for Eng u15 in tournament in Italy By Feb last year had 21 goals in 20 games for England youth Won the highest level youth league with Barca in 2018 FA Youth cup with us Scored against Liverpool for Villa in the cup
  8. I am not just referring to this post, but needed to reply to one of your posts, but you Sir, speak a lot of sense!
  9. I have said that myself. I don't believe we ever expected to get JWP for 25m. Either the bid was fake news or I think Villa may have being showing the market that we are only in for players in the 25m to 35m price range and if the fee goes above that then we walk. It is not a bad reputation to have when u have 100m in the bank
  10. With another year in the PL under their belts there is an opportunity for a number of players to improve too (Doug, the kids, Traore, Cash, Emi B, Bailey and Sanson), a marked improvement by a few of these and we may change our transfer requirements. It would be great if our summer window can get to a stage where we only need to bring in 2 or 3 new players and we could buy one or two of real quality and promote one or two from the youth. Obviously promoting from the youth is very difficult so it is really important the we continue to invest in 16 to 18 year olds and bring as many of them into Villa each year
  11. Thx, very easy to misread things on a football forum. I clearly misread your comment too.
  12. When does the we were in the championship x years ago stop? That is a good question. I think it should stop when we have removed the Championship players from our squad and given the new players time to bed in and we also need a bit of time for transfer mistakes. We will buy someone that doesn't work out and he may need replacing. I think we can say we have now removed the Championship players. We only have 2 or 3 players left with us and that is probably intentional. I think the new players need a couple of years to bed in so I expect this coming season we should see a more developed team that knows their plan A and plan B and understands the game plan Dean and his coaches want. Next season we should be completely away from our Championship memories and then it should no longer be used as justification to be used to explain not achieving something
  13. I am on the side of supporting NSWE and the club with our recent transfer window. But I also understand why people are moaning about not getting a new DM. I have my own views on this and the benefits I see for AVFC of not getting more MFs in during the window. I am happy to debate these with people and acknowledge the reason they moan and express why I think they are wrong. est1874's comment is not asking for patience and trust, it is trying to insult other Villa fans that have a different view
  14. I am well aware that European football is the aim, but it wasn't said that it was the aim for our third season in the PL. I also recall NSWE and CP say quite clearly that sustainability and developing players was our strategy for the club. I completely understand why people are feeling nervous, it is not unreasonable to assume another 100m would be added to the transfer budget this summer. But FFP and the ability to develop players would have been negatively impacted if we had done so. To me, it appears that NSWE and CP and continuing to do what they said they would do
  15. Yeah, it is up there with the amount of pointless comments about other people on the blog that have nothing to do with football. But thinking about it, the moaners could have a point as they are annoyed about our transfer window and possibly that we haven't signed a DM. They could well have a point (time will tell) and as their moans are actually related to football and Aston Villa it is appropriate to express them here. So the pointless comments are probably worse than the moaners.
  16. Do u really think offering 25m/30m for JWP was realistic and do you really believe that the club believed Saints would actually sell him for that price? We chanced our arm, thought we saw an opportunity and it didn't work out. ESR was another similar transfer bid. They were both looking to see if we could pick up a bargain. Every club will need to have multiple options for their transfer window as their primary objectives do not always work out. Harry Kane is not a Man City player yet it is reported he was their primary target.
  17. We were in the Championship 3 seasons ago. We need some time to build a team and to gain the experience to make a move for Europe. Getting to the top is not an easy task. We have owners with very deep pockets and they continue to demonstrate this by investing massively in the club. They have invested multiple of the purchase price of the club into players, management and infrastructure. We may have been sleeping giants but we need a little time to wake up. And yes, I agree, the young may not cut it. But brining in youth is the stated slub strategy. If it doesn't work first time then we keep at it until it does work. But if we never give it a chance to work then we will never know.
  18. Given that the club can understand our strategy and the club have visibility of our finances I suspect the club can see things that fans cannot. It is just a hunch, but I am guessing Purslow, Smith, Lange and the coaches know more about what is happening that we do. I could be wrong but that is just a hunch I have
  19. Only time will tell but it could just as easily be positioned as it is an exciting progressive move by the club to bring the youth in but we don't know how it will work out and only time will tell. 'Stagnating' is more narrative than objective
  20. I think the club showed with our transfer window that we are keeping a route through to the senior teams for these guys. If we had both the supposed another two midfielders to push us for Europe then we would simultaneously closed the door on progression for these lads
  21. We have clearly slipped up there. Why are we leaving a lot of good players with them?
  22. Lucky him, I reckon I know less stuff than I did two years ago
  23. That answer is easy - none. The club don't see what the fans do apparently. Or maybe the fans don't see what the club sees
