I haven't found one Villa fan that doesn't see the progress we have made. I think the people that may be more critical of DS just think that progress could be better. He has made mistakes but as mentioned above, he is still learning and importantly he is showing that he is learning from some previous mistakes. If he keeps that up I will be very happy

We lost 3-0, yes we were great in the 1st half but TT changed tactics in the 2nd half and won the game.

I don't believe that for a second. Football clubs appoint managers based on their CV, whether that be playing or as a manager. Smith hasn't got the CV to get him a top job (yet).

So, which PL manager will get sacked first this season?
Peter Griffin replied to alreadyexists's topic in Other Football
If they lose to Norwich next week there will be serious revolt. Taking 3 points at home to Norwich is like taking candy from a child and they have no DCL or Richarlison and I believe Pickford is out too. Norwich will win a game at some stage. When they were in the PL a couple of years ago they beat Man City, albeit they had Emi- 138 replies

Reading their forum and they are very divided, the majority appear to want him out- 138 replies

Lage or Arteta for me but I wouldn't rule out Rafa. The fans hate him and if they go on a bad run the fans may force him out- 138 replies

I think MA is too tight to pay him and his team off and then pay compensation for a new management team. He will have confidence Bruce can finish 17th and that is the height of the ambition- 138 replies

The difference between the two benches was huge yesterday. It showed the depth we have and the value of having that depth and yet our most expensive player ever didn't get any game time. This says to me that we will finish ahead of Everton this season
-
I just watched a recording of it. May tune into Sky now
-
And the more we practice the luckier we get
-
I agree and its a very very very very long time since we were in this position.
-
He had the most recoveries in the opposition half of all players on the pitch and he only came on as a sub. His last few games at the end of last season were really good and he appears to have continued with that form. I can see the benefits of not getting a DM in the summer. If we can improve the players we have we will add much more value to the club. It is so much better than building a group of high paid bench warmers we are desperate to get off the payroll
-
I think he is going to be pushing for a starting role. He is turning out to be a very good player. The strength in depth is getting very good
-
Me too, it was a much watch. They were brilliant together and very funny
-
He has been proper marvellous for quite a few games now. Marvelous finished last season as one of our best players. If he keeps up this level of play he will be a really strong addition to our squad
-
100% agree. We had a marked improvement when Shakespeare joined us too. Only weak managers are afraid to surround themselves with strong people
-
I think the fact that we have a new set piece coach this season and hadn't have one before suggests that Austin MacPhee should get the credit. And yes, CP and DS and whoever else appointed him deserves credit too.

The RJW63 Official Jack Grealish Appreciation Thread
Peter Griffin replied to sir_gary_cahill's topic in Other Football
It was selling Grealish that enabled us to have this side. There is not a chance we could have bought 95m worth of players on the wages they are on and complied with FFP. Yes it would be nice to have Grealish in the team. The current squad and the current squad with Grealish are mutually exclusive -
I am not sure what you are suggesting, is it that NSWE haven't spent money? Someone still has to approve spending 95m on players and increasing our wage bill.
-
Does that mean we are stronger having sold Jack and bought 3 quality players which increases quality across the first XI and increases quality on the bench?
-
He is a quality player, only 23, had a brilliant playing relationship with Emi and has that something special about him. Without question he would improve our squad. If he is attainable at the right price he would be a great buy and has lots of potential to increase in value. Who knows? we may need extra depth for Europa Cup next season

Todd Cantwell could be a cheeky buy in Jan. Norwich look like they are going down. Cantwell will have 18 months on his contract and if they get relegated and with only 12 months left he will leave for a very low fee. Maybe we could pick him up in Jan for 15m/20m. He would be another great addition of our squad and would seriously increase our strength in depth. Sanson was an opportunistic Jan purchase, maybe we will do it again. Our bench strength really showed tonight, improving on that can only be a good thing

It very much looks like Cantwell will be sold next summer on the cheap following relegation. I wonder if we would be interested in a Sanson like deal in Jan
