  1. Neville...'Even Newcastle could have scored goals (against us)' LOL
  2. Its a pity Roy Keane isn't commentating today. He would be fun to listen to
  3. Conte should be manager by the end of the week
  4. I never thought I would say it but watching Man United is like watching Villa
  5. I expect Dean will return to 433, he can't not after the calamity on Friday night. I fear we will still lose. I think Hammers are just way too organised for us. They are currently up there with the very best of the PL teams in terms of organisation and cohesion, they just have inferior players to City, Liverpool and Chelsea.
  6. I think we may get a lesson in tactics and organisation from them but I don't think it will be Smith's last game. The Saints and Brighton games will be real pressure games and if they go badly we could be looking for a replacement
  7. Which means he should not be here to stay
  8. Yes there are many people that are not posting silly comments and it is great to have debate from both side. But it is not a response to an hour of poor football. It is 4 and a half hours of losing football and 7 out of 9 games with poor football. The trend is not looking good and that is the concern.
  9. Yep, I agree and I would love nothing more than the belief to return. The silly comments are to be expected though. They will always happen when there is no ability to debate and the facts don't backup the narrative. Then the only recourse for some people is to avoid the actual debate and post about the poster instead. In football terms I think it is 'playing the player instead of the ball'
  10. But Smith knows best. The team against Arsenal was the best team he could have put out and he got the tactics spot on. We should not be questioning him. He has us playing to the absolute best of our ability and there is nothing he could do better and it is silly for supporters to suggest he got things wrong.
  11. I don't think he 'will' be gone if we lose the next two but I wouldn't rule it out. I think he will be given the next 3 games with losses allowed and then he will be on match by match review. But it won't and shouldn't be just down to the result. If he implements a style of football, if we are playing like our life depended on it and if he plays the right tactics then I can forgive losses to better teams or through a bit of luck for the opposition. But saying that, even that tolerance would have a very limited timeline
  12. We are but there are only 9 games played and things are bunched up and it is difficult to build up big gaps during the earlier stages of the season. There is 'only' 10 points between European qualification and relegation as it stands. The issue is the trend Villa is showing and a return of 1.1 points per game will push us towards relegation and away from Europe. That is why I and others are a little concerned that Deano is not showing signs of turning things around
  13. I agree with that, he must deliver this season. I hope he does deliver but if he doesn't then I expect him to be replaced next summer
  14. Just looking at the list it appears to be the way I would expect it. Is that data for this season? I am a bit surprised with Villa up in 2nd. Interesting to see where Palace are. I am liking them each time I see them and think Vieira is doing a great job, they are the one team in the PL that is genuinely going through a transition period and a rebuild period and they are playing nice football. Vieira is doing his chances of replacing Arteta no harm whatsoever
  15. As a Villa fan I would love to see us beat the Hammers but there is absolutely nothing to suggest we will. They are playing well and look like a good team, we are playing badly and have no cohesion.
  16. I am with you, changing gaffer mid season is not a good place to be. The only times it happens (other than Watford) is when the manager os clearly underachieving. My concern is that currently Dean is underachieving and Purslow and NSWE will be well aware of that. So he needs to turn it around very very quickly if he doesn't want to join the list of managers sacked during a season. I have no idea how many games he will have to turn it around but he will have a few. If we lose the next 3 games and are on 6 losses in a row then I expect his job security will be determined on a match by match basis
  17. That isn't true though. We have sold Jack and released Heaton, Taylor and Elmo and loaned out Engels, Wes and Fred. Jack was the only first team starter and only Elmo got a look in on the bench. We have added more quality across the team but that is not a squad rebuild
  18. If we lose our next few we will be well and truly in the relegation battle,.
  19. That's not correct. Check the dates. Aston Villa did not sign any players during the period between Suso and Lange. I know it looks good for the Dean Smith narrative but unfortunately this one doesn't work
  20. I agree with a lot of what u say but nobody, at least on VT, is saying it is an earth shattering crisis. You said yourself, 'every Premier League manager is maybe 6 games from the sack', Smith has lost the last 3. That would suggest the next 3 are very important for him. We are not only not playing well, we are playing we no cohesion. Smith needs to fix this ASAP or the nightmare scenario of having to replace our manager mid season will come true
  21. All I did contradict your comment that Potter royally fcuked up today. I have not said we should sack Smith and nor have I said we should appoint Potter. People are just discussing Smith and different potential managers. The reason they are doing this is because we are playing crap these days and Smith is looking like he can't fix it. Potter and Smith are both good. Just because Brighton lost to Man City doesn't mean Potter fcuked up.
  22. Any chance you would enlighten us as to who they were. Before you post your reply, just an FYI, Suso left Villa on July 28th 2020 and two days later, July 30th, Lange joined Aston Villa. I have looked at Transfermarkt and other sources and I can't find any players Villa signed in between Suso and Lange but clearly I must be wrong as you know the batch of players we signed when we only had Smith to trust with signings. How many were there?
  23. Is our promotion and staying in the PL fully down to Smith's coaching and tactics and nothing to do with the players we have bought? I think we have a good squad and I think everyone on VT believes we should be nowhere near relegation
