  1. So does individually No and altogether yes apply to the 2 wins from 12? If he gets credit for one of the runs he takes the flak for the other. You can't have it both ways
  2. So does the 10 game winning streak wash as a success for Deano or is that different or were we not playing against substandard opposition?
  3. It would very much surprise me. I don't know the historical data but I would be very surprised if a team that scored 1.1 points per game over a 9 game run would then go on to win 4 PL games in a row.
  4. Yes, you have and in the context of comparing us to other teams. Look back at your posts if you can't recall doing so
  5. Looking at the facts is always a smart thing to do and I expect Deano and Purslow are doing that. If fans want to ignore the facts that is their prerogative. Personally, I like to judge Villa objectively.
  6. The phase of play, as I said I believe it should have be given but I have also seen other people's perspective on it
  7. Yes, good spot, for some reason I had him joining for our promotion push but it was our relegation fight. My mitigating factors are Covid and getting older . I hadn't considered that about the season before, good point. Although, it was ultimately beneficial that we lost to Fulham I am still really pissed with Bruce for the way we approached that game
  8. At the risk of you rewriting history, we brought Mings and Reina in on loan in the Jan window of that season.
  9. Are you sure we are not a relegation threatened side and are managing to hang around at the lower part of midtable because Smith is the best manager on the planet and it would be impossible for anyone to have to higher up the table.
  10. How is that knocking what Smith has achieved? The way he did it was unconvincing but I have never knocked what he achieved, it was brilliant.
  11. I would have thought Villa fans could read too, but hey, life springs surprises on a daily basis
  12. We stayed up because we finished in 17th place, 1 point ahead of 18th.
  13. Did u actually read my comment? I said "I will also understand that we do not know how significant as we don't know how game would have panned out." Obviously a typo in that as it should read I 'do' as opposed to I 'will'
  14. I have never knocked what he has achieved. You claim this quite a lot but it is not the case. I give credit to Smith for what he has achieved. Well done Dean, it is brilliant that we are in the PL. Thank you! And while I am at it thank you for getting us to a cup final. But I am not blinkered and I can see his weaknesses and it is good to discuss them and I am not going to stick my head in the sand and act like they don't believe. The best managers will review what is going badly and look to fix it. What is wrong with fans reviewing what is going badly?
  15. Not quite the Lansbury goal. It can be argued that goal shouldn't have stood, personally I think it was a goal but I can see why some would argue it shouldn't. Like many goals there can be debate regarding them. No debate with the Ghost goal
  16. I think the reasoning behind that was because Purslow's primary objective at Liverpool was to sell the club. His involvement in footballing matters was selling players the manager didn't want to sell (at a big profit) and reducing wage bill and buying players and appointing a manager that were not exactly inspiring from a footballing perspective. He delivered very well on the objective he was given by the then owners
  17. Exactly, and I really hope it happens
  18. I agree the Ghost goal was potentially a significant event in our season but I will also understand that we do not know how significant as we don't know how game would have panned out. However, that ghost goal is like a taboo subject on here and people don't like to discuss it and prefer to pretend it didn't happen. Some people even express confusion when it is mentioned. If we look at how Dean performed each season it can be seen that we have cut it quite close in both getting promotion and retaining PL status. Yes, the important thing is we managed to get up and stay up but they weren't convincing seasons.
  19. When Deano took over Villa we had an awful away record. I think we all just came to expect a loss. It was a huge relief when he finally removed the inability to win away from home for us
  20. The debate on midtable is quite funny as the justification is along the lines of we are where we should be and look at the money spent and wages and that says we are a midtable team (and ignoring the definition of midtable) that is where we should be. This is used as data to justify Smith is doing a good job. But surely if he was doing a good job we would be overachieving and ahead of where we 'should' be. If we are where we 'should' be then what value is Dean adding for his 1.5m a year. Should we not have a manager that gets a team to punch above their weight?
  21. It is also 3 games without a point i.e. 3 losses. Are you saying that happened to the clubs you mentioned or might they have picked up some draws in the little runs you are comparing ours to?
  22. I don't think so (unless there is a big, sustained downturn in form) We don't need a downturn in form for Smith to get himself onto thin ice, we would need a continuation of current form for that. Dean needs a upturn in form to avoid the thin ice
