Gerrard. I like his attitude and the drive to win he has
I wouldn't like Lamps because of the immediate and transformational change TT made with the same players at Chelsea. Lamps was clearly not getting the best out of the players nor playing thr right tactics
He is a risk, I, like you, am warning to him. You kind of have to if he is going to become our manager. If he does I will be giving him my 100% support and hoping he succeeds
I agree it is a risk if we get Gerrard, I have never disputed that. The point I am making is that, like me, none of so know whether he will be a step backwards from Smith.
That's a very fair comment. I guess it comes down to the level of risk and reward. If we do employ Gerrard then I am assuming CP believes the reward is worth it. Also, budget hasn't really been mentioned on here. Gerrard will be relatively cheap for a manager of a PL side and I would suspect an awful lot cheaper than Favre or Fonseca. We may not be able to pay the big salaries yet
How can u possibly see Gerrard as a step backwards? The risk with Gerrard is that he is unknown at this level and the risk is potentially worth taking because of what he has achieved in his career to date. I don't think it is possible for anyone to be able to say Gerrard is a step backwards.
I think we should be going into phase two with the expectation that it will be a 2 to 3 year project and at the end of it we will likely be changing manager again for the next level manager. Yes, there is a chance whoever comes in now may be able to take us to top 4 but I am not banking on it.
Does anyone know if Gerrard ruled himself out of the Toon job, I do recall he commented on it and the media picked it up that he wasn't interested. There is deafening silence form him on the Villa job. If he wasn't interested I suspect we would have heard that he is very happy where he is etc
Clubs in the top 6 change managers too. Chelsea go through managers regularly, City and Liverpool have a manager in place for a few years now but had a high turnover before that. United have had their fair share on managers recently too. Spurs turnover on managers is crazy, on manager number 3 in 2021.
But you are only talking about the cause of problems for the last 11 games. I am referring to the last 3 years. And as for formation, we were nailed on as 433. We changed it for a couple of games when Heaton and Wes got injured on Jan 1st 2020 against Burnley and then about 6 or 7 games ago.
I agree. I want an exciting managerial appointment like Favre but I am not against Gerrard. He wouldn't be my first choice but I do see the positives he could potentially bring to Villa
If you are going to appoint potential then the manager will by nature be inexperienced. If we do get Gerrard it will be for the potential of him succeeding with Villa. other clubs have employed managers from outside the big top flight leagues and have been successful. Just because he hasn't done it in the PL doesn't mean he can't and his record with Rangers is excellent
