Gerrard. I like Eddie's football but he had PL safety in his clutches when we stayed up and messed that up big time. Also, his transfers are a tad dodgy. It will be interesting to see how he does at Toon. Buying a load of dross in Jan and taking them down is a fairly likely outcome imo

But he doesn't want a background job at Anfield. And if it bombs at Villa, with the squad we have and funding from the owners I can't see too many PL clubs looking his direction

I wouldn't be surprised if he was confirmed late tonight or tomorrow. He had an overnight bag with him getting off the train. He presumably expects to sort it all out with one visit

I wasn't last night or this morning but it is very much looking like Gerrard is our next boss. No denial from Gerrard and it is not just one 'ITK' suggesting it. Every single mention of the Villa on social media is saying Gerrard is coming to Villa. It is time to start believing I suspect

But just as it is a risk for Villa it is a big risk for Gerrard too. If he balls it up at Villa that would seriously damage his reputation and potential to one day manage Liverpool. Yes, Villa job is very attractive but Gerrard doesn't need the money and this role could define is managerial career. That takes some balls

There was never a doubt we will not replace Smith once he was sacked. When we appoint a new manager it will because it is deemed he is the right man. It would be very weak management by Purslow if he believed Smith was not the right man and didn't sack him

Greatest example of revisionism on here yet. We have an average of 1.1 points per game since Jan 1st which is 42 points over 38 games. That is not mid table

Come Steero, You are showing revisionism here. We are clearly only the 4th worse team. Burnley, Newcastle and Saints are below us. Deano was doing a fantastic job this year keeping us out of the bottom 3

I would say very few. If the manager is not the right man for the job then he must go

The gamble is that Gerrard hasn't experience at this level and us unproven i.e. we do not know. With Deano we have had a year of very poor results and we are 11 games into a season and in relegation form.

Pretty sad that so many Villa fans on here are effectively saying that there is nothing Gerrard could do to win them over.
