He wasn't interested in the Toon job though

Love that video. Do we even need Gerrard?

https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2021/november/11/villa-announce-steven-gerrard-as-head-coach/ When he is wishing the staff the best for the future, he could have personalised it a bit more and said Good luck to the staff in the new jobs at Aston Villa
-
He spent 95m in the summer. Yes, I have no doubt we could have spent more than that but we didn't. There must be a reason for that. And yes, it makes sense to plan for additional and not previously budgeted transfer activity in Jan. That is just basic prudent business practice

No club gives their manager the best possible resources to be successful. Clubs must make business decisions too. It would be moronic to spend every bit of available cash on one window without anticipating a possible downside. Some players may get seriously injured (Wes / Heaton), some make have personal reasons to leave football, the manager may leave (sacked or resign) and you need to have money available for the next transfer window to deal with these possibilities.

I noticed that a week or so ago. It really is hard to believe. Maybe we were premature in sacking him
-
But that is not the case with football. Where did Julian Nagelsmann work his way up? He is the 34 year old Head Coach of one of the biggest clubs in the world
-
If they were unsure that he would be staying in the role it would have been quite sensible.

Read back on this thread. That is exactly what some fans are saying their view is. Its moronic to post something on a thread without actually reading the thread to see what has been discussed.

Gerrard rejecting Liverpool in 3 or 4 years to stay with Villa for our Champions League campaign may help to get some of the anti Gerrard on side. Not all of them, but I think a few may start to support him a bit more
-
If u think that outside looks like a young offenders institute, you should have a look inside on match days
-
Should we only recruit players that have 15 years experience too? Over 35 year olds only? We should probably scrap the youth development too. None of them have any experience
-
It will only be used if Gerrard is successful. If we are playing shyte and looking at relegation then people won't be saying it is a stepping stone. However, if we are competing for Europe and threatening the big boys established positions then we will be bombarded with it. I look forward to the day every other set of fans is saying it is a stepping stone

There is nothing wrong with not wanting Gerrard as manager nor thinking he will be a failure. As you say, that shows you care. It is the people that are posting that they hope we lose games and that they hope he fails because they don't like Gerrard are the ones that are hard to fathom
-
That is not true. You are assuming that Gerrard won't be able to take us to the next level which is your opinion and there is nothing wrong with that. But saying the club decided not to go to the next level is just garbage
-
How long are his arms?
-
It wouldn't be pushing the boat out to far to assume that the whole board were impressed by what they heard too
-
Was ROK coming here nepotism too? And more nepotism with Gerrard taking Beale et al to Villa Park. Having worked with somebody previously also suggests you have a better understanding of the person, their character and their motivations. Understanding these can help in the recruitment process.
-
I didn't realise Jamie Carragher was such a Villa fan. Sky giving us a lot of coverage today
-
Possibly but I can't see Gerrard going to a lower level coaching role at Liverpool. he has tasted management and I think wouldn't want to step back down to the lower levels
-
You did say if he bombed at us he could still get the Pool job. He will be supported by the owners in the transfer windows so he will spend millions. Our owners and CEO are patient with managers and will give him some time. If it does come to him being sacked then we will have damn near close to the worst PL record in 2022. I can't see Liverpool taking him if he bombs with us
-
So he does naff all with our players, is supported in the transfer market and goes on to have one of the worst PL records in 2022 and we sack him and you think he will get the Liverpool job. Your argument against Gerrard would be much stronger if you didn't add so much narrative
-
Yeah, the are only 4 points clear at the top and are current league champions, their team must be a mess. What will hurt them is having their coaching team taken away.
-
The timing is good for us. Much better than later in the season. The new coaches will have between now and the end of Dec to get a good handle on what we have and what we need and then the window opens. Obviously some 'fans' don't want him to have time to get to know the player but thankfully we have more mature thinkers managing our club
