Apparently so. I am hoping that is to allow us time to get Beale et al on to the Villa payroll. Once that is done it will remove a huge amount of questions we couldn't answer as we would be still negotiating / sorting out the paperwork. On Monday we can do the big reveal hopefully

Normally is someone or some company are a pleasure to deal with that means you came away with what you wanted and didn't have to pay too much. I am not sure being a 'pleasure to negotiate with' is necessarily positive attribute to have in business. Something like 'Tough but fair' is more the way to be viewed imo

Thanks for posting, I always like to see fans of other teams post. Gerrard was not my number 1 choice but he is really growing on me. I have now read a few times a weakness he may have is game management and use of subs. That does worry me a little as we have had that issue ourselves for quite a long time with various managers. Good luck with finding a new manager, it is not the easiest task.

And something that could rule him out of the Liverpool job. Salah, Mane, Virgil, Frimino and Jota etc won't be able to understand him

He was not my first choice. I thought it was just media shyte when we were linked. But I am really coming around and am currently very very happy we have Gerrard as our Gaffer. Yes there is risk but it is also really exciting. It is difficult not to like what is happening

There are quite a few pundits which I which I was not overly fond of. But everything I have heard from every single pundit has been really positive and complimentary towards Villa and the appointment of Gerrard. I knew he was a big name but I really didn't expect the blanket coverage we have been getting. It is nice.

I agree. I expect a standard 4-3-3 against Brighton. The immediate change I expect is to see more intensity from the players. Gerrard and Beale will have told them they need to up the ante and also the players looked like the had downed tools a little with Dean. I expect the players to try a bit harder to impress the new manager. Brighton is a good team for Gerrard in his first. They are fairly goal shy and that will give us a little breathing space to make an error or two.

Martin Tyler or anyone else couldn't give a shit whether they were talking about Man Utd or Luton Town. They will talk about whatever team the listening audience what to hear about. The teams that people want to hear about are the higher profile teams. This is why it is vital that Purslow increases the profile of Villa.

Not pub chat whatsoever. How do teams that don't win anything, which are the majority, make money? Revenue in football is from advertising. It doesn't matter if that is via TV or shirt sales or other commercial sponsorship. The revenue model for a football club is selling advertising based upon the product they supply. The product we supply has a far better value proposition with Gerrard as Gaffer. This increases revenue. Suggesting this is pub talk shows a complete misunderstanding of how football works

Globally, people buy shirts because they hear about Villa and see them on TV. SG is putting us in the media. More shirt sales means more money. But we make F all from the actual shirt sale. The manufacturer makes this money. We make the money from selling the rights to sell our shirts. With SG we can command a higher fee. Same with all our sponsors. SG will be contracted to represent Villa and advertise all of our sponsors. We can charge more for sponsorship.

Completely agree with u. And I am hoping that is the case. It is not good to keep the same group of player. Imo, we need regular change which keeps us fresh and keeps players on their toes

I think the backroom staff seriously lessens the risk. I am confident that we will stay up this season, I was feeling a little dodgy about this as each game passed for the last few months. It is a risk but the risk is fairly calculated I suspect. It fails and we are a lower half PL team. It fails miserably and we get a new manager in Feb. It succeeds and we are heading towards Europe

With the coverage Sky are giving us and Gerrard today, there has to be a chance they will be looking for some way to broadcast the Dec 11 game live.

How is that guess work? We get more media attention with SG as manager. His 11m instagram followers have received a message saying he is our manager. There is no guess work, he has raised our profile. He is a born winner. Have u watched him over his career? Do u see the guys attitude? His reputation is that he does demand respect. His time at Rangers substantiates this. And how can any professional football player not instinctively look up to him. He was a world class midfielder

For all the concerns about Villa being a stepping stone. Can anyone name a player that we signed (under the age of 28) that they don't believe they see Villa as a stepping stone club to a top 4 team? We want players with ambition that want to rise to the top. We also want managers that want it to. It is up to Purslow to oversee the incomings and departures to ensure that we are always on an upward trajectory

Yep, I picked up on that too. Beale is clearly the coach and SG the manager. Great to have that in two people that have already built a relationship from working together

His pay doesn't just reflect his managerial capabilities. He will have a premium for his brand. He will increase the profile of Villa and will increase commercial income. His advisors will know this and so will Purslow.

I think that is a load of bollox. He doesn't need the money and it is clear he is a winner and he wants to succeed. He will be more pissed with the blot on his CV and reputation damage than any amount of compensation. He doesn't want to manage a 'Norwich', he wants to manage Liverpool
