  1. I think it will go long past the first game
  2. I would have loved him too. Maybe CP didn't what to approach a manager to then get refused. Newcastle didn't look too smart with their manager hunt
  3. I used to be like that but my Mrs has taught me otherwise over the years
  4. And the style of football is dire and questionable from a 'sporting' perspective
  5. Maradona, Roy Keane and Matthaus may argue otherwise but I agree with the rest
  6. Pep has to be the best but he has only tested himself with the best so that could be seen as a negative. Roberto Mancini has also done well. I would have liked him at Villa, I was hoping we would offer him the job while letting him double job and continue with Italy till after the WC.
  7. Carlton Palmer too But yes, a very long list of great players that failed at management
  8. Can't argue with much of that. It is a risk and I hope it proves to be a risk worth taking. Personally, I would prefer to see the club take a risk than go for the 'safe' option
  9. I agree we absolutely need what he has but we need some of it in our players. I am not sure how much SG can pass his natural attitude over to the players. Hopefully he can and having a gaffer with it is a great start. I hope to see his first couple of players to have that 'never say die' attitude
  10. We are married to the same bird.
  11. I don't believe he played with Ings
  12. Gerrard would not be the person negotiating the sale price. It is not going to happen where Gerrard sells our players on the cheap to Liverpool so he can have them there if he joins a year later. I have read some far fetched comments on here but that takes the biscuit
  13. There is nothing stopping any club from making bids for our players in any transfer window, just like there is nothing stopping us making bids for players from any other club. If any club wants to buy a Villa player they meet our financial valuation or the players stays at Villa
  14. Yes, he clearly appears to be their first choice. It is encouraging that NSWE and CP are prepared to invest so heavily in the coaching team. It would have been expensive to sack, Dean, then circa 4m to Rangers, 5m a year to Gerrard and the backroom team won't have come cheap. This is the sort of intent I was hoping to see from the club. It is great to see it happen
  15. They clearly believe that Gerrard is an upgrade. I get that some people disagree with this but I do not believe for 1 second that Purslow doesn't believe that Gerrard and his team is not an upgrade on Smith and his team
  16. From day 1 of NSWE buying us the message was always that our strategy is to develop youth. I really can't see that changing and as u say, we have invested millions in it
  17. Great news and Wow, we are seriously investing in our coaching team., That is not cheap
  18. I don't think that is quite true. Our football was poor for the last year and we were in relegation form. They could be reasons for throwing the cards in the air. Gerrard, whether you agree or not, was a considered appointment by CP.
  19. What a dickhead. Not one pundit said that Gerrard would be an upgrade on Smith. Everyone went out of their way to say Smith was very good and then said Gerrard was a good appointment. It took him 3 days to come up with that shyte
  20. It would also make sense to wait until McAllister and Beale are confirmed too
  21. I think this is the link u are looking for https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2021/november/07/club-statement-dean-smith/ It is at the bottom of the club statement
  22. It was since confirmed that he met with Purslow in London and agreed the deal over dinner in London that day. I think the unnamed source may have been a windup merchant
  23. Yeah, but Gerrard hasn't had his chance at Liverpool (yet), isn't that the point? Lamps had his chance at Chelsea and it didn't work out as he had not doubt hoped.
  24. There are really big logistics challenges for these guys. Imagine having to move job to somewhere new with only a few days notice and the impact on housing, bills, commitments, family, school etc. At least SG's home and family are already down here (well, relatively close). But a big pain in the arse for Beale
  25. Fans will give Gerrard time to implement his style and methods and get some player in during Jan. As long as SG keeps us away from the drop zone I expect that he won't get too much grief until next season. Then he will be much more under the microscope as he will have had the time to bed in. If those negative attributes manifest themselves I would say fans will get angry. A lot will depend of results though. More points means less anger.
