  1. Howe has tested positive for C-19 so can't take training or attend the Toon match at the weekend.
  2. I think it is more PR than actually incorrect. I think Purslow is shrewd enough to have the correct paper trail to cover himself for all eventualities. I would be very surprised if there wan't a list with 20 names on it and I suspect Lange has the paper trail to show this was reduced to 4 and I also expect that we contacted the agents of the 4 candidates and spoke to each of them. The interviews may have just been a 30 min Zoom call and yes, they were probably never really in with a chance of getting the job.
  3. I would doubt it is limitless, we need to be careful of FFP and we need to consider the total potential cost and particularly so if it didn't work out. Sacking someone on 15m a year can be very costly and then u have to replace him too. But I do agree with the principle, we should not be penny pinching with the manager and should go all out to pay as high a salary as our finances will allow
  4. There is a huge amount of comments on here about the selection process and the conspiracy of Purslow being disingenuous with the facts as he wanted to get 'his mate' in to Villa Park. Purslow is the CEO and the Head Coach reports directly into the CEO. Purslow will be measured and rewarded based on success at Aston Villa. It is in Purslow's best interest to get the best man possible to be our Head Coach. Perhaps our CEO actually believes that Steven Gerrard is the best man to take Villa forward and he did everything he could do as CEO of Villa to get that man as our Head Coach. That is the way I would like to see our CEO operate.
  5. Finance may have contributed to the type of manager we were after. The Ancelotti type manager would be circa 15m a year and our budget appears to be in the 5m a year range.
  6. Yes, there are some jobs that require customer facing time and outside of normal working hours for people. Doctors work nightshift in hospitals which is clearly not getting up early. But I think we all understand the (very understandable) point that gwi1890 is making.
  7. My guess on the other three are Hasenhuttl, R Martinez and Fonseca. I know people say the media is only speculating but they speculated quite well with regard to Gerrard
  8. In fairness to SG he said we will move to a possession based team and that will happen over time but no dates. But he did say he will do things differently and will do things his way and he said we will see that change against Brighton
  9. I agree, this is the type of person we need at Villa. Yes, it could blow up but that would be down to SG's coaching ability, but the attitude is the right one. If / when we do have to replace SG we should be looking for the same attitude but maybe with different coaching skills
  10. I like the way he spoke about the youth setup, what a player needs to do if they want to get into the 1st 11 and also that we will see a different approach against Brighton. I know it is a presser and there are soundbites we will expect but he is coming across very well
  11. So what will the first presser be like. Will it be... Great squad, European Champions, great stadium and fans. Looking forward to starting and pushing up the league. Haven't discussed transfers for Jan and just focusing on the great players we have for the moment... or Some real weaknesses in the squad, particularly in midfield and will need to spend 70m in Jan. Can't understand what idiot bought so many attacking players and I am still deciding which of Ings or Watkins will be benched as they clearly can't play together. You won't see too many changes other than I will play the players in their preferred positions and if they can't show up for the first half of games they will be dropped and sold
  12. Sorry, just saw your serious note. Need a bigger screen on my phone
  13. We would be into the 23/24 season by then. We will be able to judge SG very well by the end of this season. Then after a proper transfer window and a preseason we will know what SG is about this time next year.
  14. I agree that we can't judge SG based on the first game regardless of the result. But we should be able to get a little direction of what SG is trying to do from the team selection and how we try to play. I expect and hope that we will notice something different from previous games. The positions Buendia, Ings and Watkins take up will be telling and also how he sets up the midfield. It will be surprising if we don't start 4-3-3 with our 'regular' back 4
  15. Doug, No, I am not referring to VAT. There is VAT on a player purchase but City pay us that VAT and we pay it to HMRC. We have a 19% tax liability on the sale of Jack this season. So the FFP benefit of selling Jack is 81m profit.
  16. Not unique to football the principle of being able to write off losses against profits. However, tax regulations for football specifically cover home grown players and their tax implication on sale. For non home grown players the net profit and amortisation amounts are taken into account. For home grown player the club must the club has a tax liability of the full purchase price plus agent fees. Negotiations of transfers are often delayed as the club tries to agree with the player to pay the agent fees. Even if we have losses accrued they can be written off against other profits at the club. We still need to accept the 20m cost of Jack's sale to HMRC. The discussion above was suggesting that we have the full 100m from an FFP perspective, but the FFP benefit for us in this accounting window is 80m.
  17. We have a tax liability on the sale of Jack. That is the law. If we have other losses to write off against that profit that is irrelevant. We still have a 20m tax bill for Jack and if we use other tax losses we can’t use those to offset other costs. The bottom line is Jack nets us 80m and not 100m
  18. I am not referring to VAT. There is 20% tax on selling home grown players as we have made a profit on them. We only get 80m of the 100m
  19. Don't forget that HMRC takes about 20% of the 100m for Jack.
  20. I remember us leading Leicester 2-0 with about 20 mins to go, its all a bit of a blur after that
  21. It is quite amazing how quickly the brain forgets things it doesn't want to remember. I clearly remember us beating them 5-1 and Wes scoring twice but I don't recall the 2-0 loss
  22. I am not sure where u get the glasses, maybe some of the other posters on here could help with that, there appears to be a lot of people that have them
  23. At least Deano should be well prepared for what Norwich will have to face. I would like to see him get the win and put Newcastle bottom
