  1. If we got Pau Torres I could see Mings linking up with Eddie again. They are desperate for CBs and they will find it difficult to attract the really top guys. Mings could be a very expensive Jan signing for them which would help them and no doubt make their fans somewhat happy with the transfer.
  2. There is if there are rules against to which you have signed a contract which states you must abide by club rules. Breaking rules can result in fines, being dropped or being sold. Yes, a player can break and rules and try not to get caught but tends not to end well. I am hoping that Gerrard is instilling a very strict professional environment where everyone buys into what he is doing. Those that do not buy into it should be shipped out of the club. It is the small infractions that build up and help to create a lazy attitude. Gerrard maay get it wrong with some of the rules he brings in but that is not really the point. The players must realise that it is Gerrard's way or find another club.
  3. I get that it is a good soundbite for the media and I am sure it is part of many changes with more broad ranging ideas which all contribute to a healthy diet and an appropriate diet for an elite athlete. I very much doubt it is a list of no mayo, no ketchup etc, these product just happen to fall into the banned category and as such are banned and generates clicks. But I love the attention to all aspects of the club. I would have thought that in the first week he his priority would have been the playing aspect. But then again, he has brought a big team with him
  4. I am not so sure about that. Brighton play a very high possession game and as many have pointed out in the 'Potter as manager' debate, they do naff all with the ball. Palace won't try and play the possession football and imo it will be a totally different game. There will be two inexperienced PL managers up against each other. Which one will have the balls to take the game by the scruff of neck and assert their authority. I am hoping to see Gerrard play a very different way than on Saturday. This would impress the hell out of me if Gerrard can change the approach and come away with another 3 points and keeping the sheets clean
  5. The pass to Bailey for the goal against Everton was world class
  6. I don't think anyone can be 100% on the Gerrard train yet. There are lots of positives from his career albeit the lack of PL experience and he does appear to have the right attitude. Only time will tell if he will be successful with us but on the limited evidence to date it is all looking rosy in the Villa garden. Long may it continue.
  7. Yeah, but how many new players do they have? The were the only team in the PL that had to rebuild last summer
  8. And Palace look a much better team this season than they have in quite a few years
  9. Its sunset during half time in London on Saturday. Second half may be a little scary
  10. Maybe it is because we are not in the habit of taking 3 points from teams we are expected to.
  11. The money is not the point though, we paid 22m for Wes and he has scored, I think, 5 goals for us. If they don't have the quality playing up front they are not going to score goals.
  12. I think it is really important for managers to continue to freshen up the squad and to not be afraid to sell players that are regular 1st team players. This helps the club financially but also keeps the squad from going stale. Its not an easy task doing this and the DOF needs to be good.
  13. It will be interesting to see Brighton next season if they do buy a decent striker. There is no doubt they play a nice brand of football and are quite good at it. If Potter is as good as some think he could be then a good strike force should make them a really tidy PL team
  14. If you are comparing Gerrard's performance to last year's results as opposed to this year's and he gets an 'Average' as it was the same tactics and players does that mean that Deano was only 'Average' last year when he was winning? I like the fact you are setting the bar high for our managers but I think it may be a little too high
  15. I understand your point but that may have been a little high risk.. With so little prep time and the clear issues in defence it may have been wise to let the shape of the team bed in a little and make sure we had our defensive setup as we wanted it. We did start very brightly but then toned it back a little after about 10 mins. We will all have different views but to me the primary objective on Saturday would have been a clean sheet. Then, when we were comfortable we could get that we could press a little higher
  16. I noticed a number of people gave Gerrard an 'Average' review in the voting. I would love to know what he could have done to improve from 'Average'. And if that was an average performance I really can't wait to see a 'Good' performance by him
  17. I think I was more nervous after Ollie scored . I went from being really happy with a potential draw and clean sheet to thinking we are going to concede late on and throw away a hugely important win
  18. That's impressive insofar as that is exactly what SG said his game plan was. It is encouraging that he is able to actually implement a plan. Lots of managers know what the plan should be but are unable to effect it
  19. Very mature words. SG is really impressing me
  20. So what is the reason after stopping the 5 game loss, keeping a clean sheet and playing some organised football for the negative discourse on Gerrard. I fully appreciate that we do not know how he will work out. Nobody does. All we can do his speculate as to what may happen. But we have the evidence of one game to start forming an opinion. It is impossible to be either fully confident or completely dismissive of Gerrard, yet the doubt it being raised. Why is this? Why not simply base the opinion on the 90 minutes?
  21. I think Purslow made it quite clear during the Gerrard presser. He wants continuous improvement each year and he wasn't getting it this season. It wasn't about avoiding relegation, it was the fact that we looked miles off finishing higher than 11th.
  22. This really showed. For the most part, we kept our shape and were organised. The players looked like they knew what they were meant to do. The most obvious example of this I think was Cash. So many times he moved forward and got to the half way line and stopped and passed the ball. He was clearly not told to venture forward while other players on the pitch occupied certain areas of the pitch, whether that be us leaving ourselves exposed or Brighton in a more threatening position. On occasion, when the circumstances allowed he was able to push a little more forward
  23. And if his young lad spends every weekend at Villa Park and Daddy is our manager it will be hard for him not to grow up as a Villa fan
  24. The Liverpool fans would have liked the idea of SG doing his audition with us. But the more the see him wearing a Villa tie and now his son wearing a full Villa kit, the more it will wind them up.
  25. Yes, back about 100 pages or so there were some people that were so anti Gerrard they said they wanted us to lose. I am assuming the vast majority of people on here are genuine Villa supporters and want us to win, regardless who the manager is but there are always some disingenuous 'fans'
