  1. He has 5 points from 3 games and is unbeaten. I suspect he would have bitten your arm off for that before the 3 games. He should be happy with that return
  2. I would like to see Smith turn this around and get the win
  3. Smith had a lot of good attributes as a manager. Playing against 10 men was certainly not one of them. Its his achilles heal. The Arsenal game still upsets me
  4. Maybe not the right thing to say but I wouldn't object to half their 1st team players having to self isolate
  5. I think the talk about things going stale after a few years is 100% the manager's fault. Yes, players will get complacent but it is the manger's responsibility to oversee this. Players must not be permitted to get into their comfort zone and they should be sold. The squad needs to be constantly refreshed and if so, the stale feeling will never happen. Gerrard will; need to sell players in the next couple of years that Villa fans think should not be sold. The likes of Mings, McGinn, Targett and Luiz will need to be moved out with hungrier upgrades brought in
  6. You called it right. The change to our midfield is quite amazing with a few small changes and Nakamba, who was considered a Championship player is now our MOTM and I suspect most on here want to see him start against City
  7. But I think, like me, we are all looking forward to these games. I am really looking forward to the City game and actually giving them a game. City is a side we have had a tendency to roll over to have our tummy's tickled. I am really hoping we but in a good performance albeit I expect top come away with nothing from the game other than some pride
  8. One of the most important aspects of management and so frequently many managers fail at this
  9. And I bet you didn't expect to hear it without us dipping into the transfer market
  10. Is Marvelous here to stay? He is doing well and looking a player that would command a few quid if we were to sell
  11. For all the grief Marvellous gets he is starting ahead of Luiz and Sanson. Gerrard clearly picking the team based on how u are currently performing in most recent game and I assume training as opposed to picking based on you name or transfer fee. It is good to see he is not trying to force Ings and Ollie into the same team
  12. Purslow stated in the Gerrard presser that he continuous improvement. I am taking that at face value. He wants to improve each season. Last season we got 11th so this season he will want top half. I did say I believe that SG will be given some latitude with this if he is in or about 11th as he took over mid season and where our points per game was looking like relegation and not top half. If SG gets us 7th or 8th the following season then I think CP will be happy with that as improvement and that forces Europe qualification to the following season. I would be shocked if CP wouldn't settle for that, not just because that is what he said he wants but because it will see Villa in a much stronger position than we are in today
  13. Not sure u will have egg on your face. U are saying that u believe he has all the right attributes. I don't think there is any argument against that. With every manager, there will be no evidence to say he will be a success. Look at Jose at Spurs, he won everything there is to be won at club level and he failed at Spurs. Tuchel was sacked by PSG. MoPo was sacked by Spurs. None of us have a crystal ball. But so far, on the evidence available about Gerrard at Villa, the guy hasn't put a foot wrong. He was not my first choice as manager, he wasn't even on my wish list but I am very happy with him. I think Purslow did very well to get him and his coaching team to Villa Park.
  14. He may do but 7th doesn't guarantee Europe, it is only Europe if the winners of the Cup competition also qualifies for the CL via the league, which was obviously the case when Man City won it each season. I think Purslow will be content with any top half next season and the higher the better, it is the following season I expect the pressure will be on for European qualification. But, maybe Gerrard can win the FA cup for us this year and get us Europe early
  15. Purslow said he wants continuous improvement. That is not putting pressure on him nor the manager. That is what the job requires. Nobody is hiding that at Villa and Smith will no doubt have been fully aware of this. In his first couple of years Smith delivered continuous improvement. In the last year he didn't and Villa went backwards, hence he lost his job. Gerrard must deliver continuous improvement and as per his presser, Purslow said that Gerrard promised to deliver this. This is not adding any pressure to Purslow or Gerrard. This is what these type of people thrive on. Not everyone wants to go to work each day and have it easy. They want the buzz of a challenge. The idea that Purslow has managed to put himself and Gerrard under unnecessary and new pressure is nonsense imo
  16. It would have been remiss of Purslow not to be lining up a replacement of Smith. The results were very poor for a long time. He was given time to turn them around and unfortunately Smith was not able to. I would be pissed off if Purslow wasn't planning for a new manager in the event Smith wasn't able to turn the ship around.
  17. I think Purslow made it very clear during the Gerrard presser. He said that Villa wanted continuous improvement. So the expectation this season will be above 11th but I expect Gerrard would have some latitude if he was in or about 11th. Next season will have to be top half and the season after will have to improve again. Clearly Europe is the target in the next 3 to 4 years.
  18. Its a joke. It means if Gerrard rests our best players against Liverpool, he would be doing so to throw the game to give Liverpool a handy 3 points.
  19. Particularly so if Watkins, Buendia, Ings, Bailey, Traore, McGinn, Luiz, Cash, Mings, Konsa, Targett and Martinez are all 'rested' before the important game against Deano's Norwich
  20. I always thought Tammy defended corners very well
