I agree. The fans would have gone mad. They wanted Conte or similar but they think they are competing with Man City when they are actually competing with the likes of the baggies. I would suspect the buy back clause with City influenced us not to offer a new contract until that had expired, which it did last May. Then he was off at the Copa and the Olympics and then holidays. By the time he was back we had a lot of other things at Villa to worry about. I would expect to see contract discussions in the new year and if he doesn't sign then we will hopefully be able to move him on

It depends on how you are viewing profit. If u are looking at a profit from an FFP perspective then we would make a healthy profit as we will have amortised 75% of his transfer fee by next summer. That means any sale fee above about 3.8m will be profit

Also, if we buy a European based player that is not vaccinated they would have to do 2 weeks isolation before joining in training etc. Not exactly the start we would want from a Jan signing

That was the first game in a very long time that I wasn't hiding behind the sofa afraid to watch the TV when we were 1-0 up entering the last 15 mins. Normally I expect us to concede but last night we never looked like dropping points. Great result and some great individual performances but still work to do. So far the turnaround has been remarkable
