Spurs and Man Utd both with a few games in hand and they are both in good form. I think we will see a competitive top 6 this season and a real fight for Champions League spots
Yeah, you would expect an immediate replacement lined up. It would be nice to see a permanent signing brought in to replace a loan signing and a player that will push Mings/Konsa for a starting role. That is the type of general improvement to the squad I am hoping to see. I really do not want to see us get a CB in that is just going to be cover with no real chance of claiming the shirt himself.
I would say it would be very difficult to get Fulham to agree to sell him. He plays 90mins every game and Fulham are well positioned for auto promotion. I can't see them entertaining any offers tbh
We were playing Jedi as a CB because Bruce sold or loaned our CBs out and we didn't have 2 CBs to start a game. A competent CB was going to make a huge difference. Also, our resurgence came about when Jack returned from his Kidney injury he got against Watford and kept him out for about 3 months. It is a bit of a stretch to attribute our good run down to Mings
Yeah there will be some hot heads in the immediate aftermath but it is not true that our players are called to be shipped out., it is rhetoric. I don't think I have ever seen a post calling for Emi M to be shipped out. The problem with Mings is that is consistently makes costly errors. People don't like to admit this or accept this and we end up with the ridiculous comparisons to VVD above and talk of Mings being one of the best CBs around. He is a good player, but he is not a top 6 CB. If we have aspirations of top 6 then Mings is not the player for us
Do you think the comments on the forum should just be positive about our players and not discuss their weaknesses? We all support Villa but the fact that we are not PL and Champions League current holders suggests there is room for improvement. There is nothing wrong with discussing players strengths and weaknesses. It would be wrong to simply ignore the issues we have
He was really good in our pre season when we had a game in the US when we had Jota in the team too. I thought he was nailed on to be our 1st choice RB. New manager, clean slate and all that and even if he is 'only' a backup RB, it would save us having to enter the market in the next 18 months and we could invest the money we would spend on a new RB on other areas of the pitch
According to Transfermarkt, his contract with us expires in June 2023, there is still time to get him back and part of the current setup. The lad is obviously playing well, we need a RB, it doesn't stretch the imagination too far to think we should recall in him Jan (if contract permits) and give Gerrard and the new coaches some time to assess him
Never thought of an Ings / JWP swap. Could be a good move but I don't think Saints fans would accept it. I think Danny has burned his bridges there. I wouldn't be surprised to see Toon come in for Ings, that could be an interesting one to make Gerrard think
I am not trying to be smart or rude here but is that not like saying 'I am sure if the bank offered 10000% interest rate I would open an account'. Every PL team would happily sign a goalscorer cheaply. They just don't exist. Yes, some strikers were purchased cheaply and turned out well but the club didn't know they would when they signed them.,The concept of a cheap goal scorer is something that doesn't exist. Discussing getting one in Jan is like discussing signing Lukaku and Salah on loan in Jan. It just is not a possibility. Furthermore, we don't need more attacking players, we have lots of good ones and youth ones to step up.
Saying all that, I do believe it is the defence that needs addressing and if we do bring players in they will be at the back or maybe DM
