  1. Why can't he just stick Jack in the centre every game? Playing on the left with Targett seems to stop Targett bombing forward himself which is what he's good at! This chopping and changing is doing my nut and clearly not helping our cause
  2. Been critical of Doug in the past but looked much more organised and composed against Spurs. Needs a couple of goals for extra confidence and hopefully hell start spreading his wings.
  3. It was brilliant to the see the passion and frustration and summed up every Villa fan! He's been absolutely epic and the players will need to make the most of his experience and advice. Must be doing his nut the stupid mistakes we keep on making!
  4. Completely agree with the pro Drinkwater comments vs Hourihane. Unfortunately Connor is a fair weather player and will look good when the going is easy. When the going gets tough he's nowhere to be seen and I can't possibly see the advantage over Drinkwater who I think has more potential and brings a better balance to midfield for our current relegation scrap. That's not to say he shouldn't be subbed if he starts blowing after 60 mins! But for me Connor has alot to prove at this level and im not sure he can cut it week in week out. Lastly if he does make an appearance this weekend I hope he scores another screamer!
  5. Hourihane should not be starting, such short memories some of you have lol I would much rather have Drinkwater. Personally think he looked promising yesterday despite lacking fitness and a yard of pace. If he works hard there will be more improvement. Connors left peg is premier league quality but thats it I'm afraid. Can't have someone in the team who shys away from tackles and generally does not work hard enough.
  6. Funny that we now have to repeat the conversation about Luiz being better from the bench. But some people just won't have it that he's inconsistent and very lightweight in terms of getting stuck in on tough games. Shame Drinkwater was injured as I think he would have started and brought much needed stability to midfield.
  7. Yep no doubt he's best in the business of keeping hold of the ball and dictating pace of the game when we need to the most. As others say likilihood is that he'll play every minute tonight but I just hope the ref gives some protection! If by some minor miracle we have the luxury to take him off I hope we do so. As much as I want the team to smash Leicester and get to the final I want 40+ league points even more!
  8. I'm hoping we can get a lead against Leicester and defend that so Jack can be subbed on 70 mins. We do need to be careful with him. Good news having new striker as it improves out sub options.
  9. Unbelievable isn't it lol To my eyes an unfit Drinkwater has proven more effective than Luiz who has bags of potential but is still learning his trade.
  10. Yep spot on. Can't believe how many people on twitter saying Hourihane and Luiz should have started yesterday?! Talk about head in sand. And then you get the hindsight brigade saying "told you so" just because Luiz scored! Drives me mad!
  11. Judging by the last 5 premier league seasons and the points tally of the 18th placed team we need at least 38 points to survive. We're 13 points off that with some tough games coming up. Gonna be a roller-coaster ride that's for sure!
  12. He started because a part fit Drinkwater has shown he is better then a fully fit Luiz in that role. People have such short memories - Luiz form has been poor up until his recent appearances from the bench where he's finally contributed. Yes Luiz is or will be technically better but that doesn't mean he should be starting games. The great thing is that we now have options rather than being forced to play out of form/tired players.
  13. That's the Matt Targett I want to see every week!
  14. Oozes quality, experience and winning mentality. Could be the signing to survive this league!
  15. Funny how people see things so differently! Despite his obvious lack of fitness I thought he did really well and showed much better first touch and passing than we have seen from others of late. Good composure too. I think he'll keep his place along with Nakamba who was awesome! Luiz coming off the bench worked out well though.
  16. Ive been a massive critic of Smith's "rabbit in the headlights" game management so it's good to see an improvement today. Will give more credit when I see more of it!
  17. Regardless of being up to match fitness, done no worse so far than a fully fit Luiz! Doug made a decent appearance though so hopefully a little sit on the bench has focused his mind. A good point away from home with a new striker in the way so something to be happy about!
  18. The first touch to take the ball further away from the defender was sublime. And then lashes it in with the weaker foot! Form is temporary, class is permanent.
  19. Let's hope he can learn to get going when starting games rather than becoming another super sub. Great cross, equally great finish from Jack!
  20. If we can get him on loan, not have to pay full wages etc its a win win because at the moment we are a decent way down poo poo creek without so much as a foam finger!
  21. The Premier League is fast paced and unforgiving. You need speed, composure and accuracy otherwise you are going to look silly. If you have a poor first touch those first three attributes go out the window! At least Nakamba gets stuck, some other players wont even do that however he isn't the only one to struggle with basics and so I'm left with serious concerns over our coaching staff/methods? What the actual hell is going on at the moment?!
  22. Luiz needs benching for a few games to get his head together....has that vacant look in his eyes....not good! Bring him on second half depending on how the game is going.
  23. Yes I agree with this, he really was hung out to dry by his team mates. He was massively off the pace (made to look worse by Man City) and lacked sharpness but at least he made the effort. As you say hes now got minutes under him so hopefully its all improvement from here.
  24. I knew starting Connor was a mistake (again) but didn't think he could be that poor. Drinkwater still managed to be better than him despite making errors through lack of match fitness. At least he was trying! He really is the epitiome of a one trick pony!
  25. Not just Doug but It would help if we got basic passing right! We need crisp, fast passes not lazy half arsed ones like we see alot of the time. Despite giving the ball away time and time again against Leicester I applaud the effort and attitude we had. Big boost having Mings back and it influenced the whole team.
