  1. Who cares when the transfer window closes?  I care when the season starts. We start collecting (or not collecting) points in 3 weeks and we’ve got even less of a squad than we had before. I don’t believe that this window is going how they wanted it to go and they have a very short time to put it right.

  2. Re Trippier...every time there is an England training camp, would he have to quarantine for 14 days (so basically miss the whole thing)? Or would he be exempt?

With the Euros coming up, potential problems with England squad selection would be the only reason I could see him returning to Uk.

  3. Article says this. It’s all a bit vague but does reference a possible loan...

Aston Villa have England full-back Kieran Trippier on their radar as Dean Smith looks to bolster his defence.

Smith has made a right-back one of his transfer priorities for the summer and Trippier is an ambitious target if he can be persuaded to return to the Premier League after one season at Atletico Madrid, either on loan or a permanent deal.

I get your point but if England ruled out party animals we’d be struggling to find 11 decent players. I know there’s a limit and Southgate seems to put great store in good behaviour but it would be very harsh on Jack and could set a precedent that may well become a problem for Southgate in the future.

I agree but and I think he fully deserves a call up but I was commenting in response to the poster who pondered whether If Jack didn’t get a call up whether it would be another strike against a future at the club.

The only problem I could see is if Southgate decides to drop Maguire as a result of his drunken brush with the law (which I don’t think he will, although he might rest him) he can’t very well announce a first call up for Grealish in his next breath.

Having said all that, I think he’ll get his call up  and it will be a brilliant moment for us all.

  5. To be fair to Villa, if Jack doesn’t get an England call up this time, it may be nothing to do with the team he plays for and more to do with his lockdown antics and ongoing court case. In addition to that, he was another one posting very merry lads holiday snaps on social media. Southgate might decide he is not the right sort of personality to have in the squad.

I think that would be unfair though as I think he deserves a chance to prove himself especially if Madison is injured. I think he would be an excellent addition to the England squad. But my main point being that if he doesn’t get his chance he needs to reflect on himself rather than thinking it the club holding him back.

Have we considered whether Rashica may actually be a replacement for Grealish if he goes?

This seems a distinct possibility to me if Rashica predominately plays on the left wing/CAM. It would be good planning by Villa tho to be prepared. Hopefully Jack will stay but we would not want to find ourselves armed with £60-80m with one week of the window left desperately hunting around for a replacement after everyone else has done their transfer business.

It's so quiet at the moment. How many transfers have other teams made?

What happened with Rashica by the way? Have they mentioned which club is he joining?

Rashica likely to RB Leipzig or AC Milan I think.

    Yep I know that.

Anything to suggest they aren’t prioritising the present?

Nope. Fingers crossed they are. Interviews with Dean following our survival, he talked about the problems with bedding in players that had only arrived shortly before the season started. That in itself would suggest they’d like to have people in place by the start of pre season. Let’s hope this is a big week for us.

Still about 55 days of the window left.... no need for panic at all.

Pre season starts in a week and we play our first competitive fixture of the new campaign in just over a month.

Whilst I’m delighted at the progress that seems to be being made behind the scenes and investing in the future, it would be excellent if they could now start prioritising the present.

    I’m not panicking though...yet.

Just saw a pretty pointless story saying that Aarons could be allowed to leave on loan, and the deal  "May require an option to buy".

Mentions that we have to compete with Bayern for his signature etc.

Now either the story is complete bollox, or they

    A. Need to ease up with wages ( In hopes of coming straight back up with him still as their player)

    B. They have so much faith in him to be a hit wherever he goes, that his value will increase exponentially and they will get an even bigger fee?

    C. They want the cash but no takers so far at whatever their asking price is?

    Or again, its complete bollox.

    https://tbrfootball.com/report-claims-aston-villa-target-could-leave-norwich-on-loan-this-summer/

I would guess A or C and I would take him on loan (though would prefer to buy as I think his value will increase).

We have zero chance of Abraham, he isn’t ready to go and neither is Chelsea ready to sell.

Seemingly lots of noise that Watkins is a done deal, should be confirmed next week. Benrahma seemingly just waiting to see if any big boys might offer, but I think he will end up here.

Would like to see any of Buendia, Sarr, Iheanacho, Barkley, Smalling or Stones arrive. We would be seriously improved if we got a few of these closed.

This is exactly how I see it.  I hope for a 11-15 place next year and 7-12 the year after.

I know it shouldn't but it does wind me up seeing Jack post pics on instagram of him and SJM getting hammered.  When our foriegn players are enjoying there break but training too.

I think a proper break after the intensity of the last couple of months is exactly what they need.

They’ll be back to fitness soon enough.

  13. I was excited when we were being linked to Ineacho, Origi and Abraham.

Hoped for Benrahma or Buendia to provide the chances.

Now getting slightly worried we’re going to complete the window with Watkins (who I would absolutely take in addition to one of my first 3 mentioned but not as the star buy).
