And VT has a right to question your statement that the club is drip feeding excuses ?

I know copying and pasting is a horrific experience but I have faith in you dude.

That’s why I’ve already done it. Scroll up

Well when someone is saying that they think that the club is happy to only sign up Matty Cash then it's not a big leap to suspect someone is trolling. Valid criticism is fine but some sticking the boot in act like they know what's going on behind the scenes when 99.9% of us don't.

I’m not sticking the boot in but as supporters we have the right to question things without being mocked. There is an element recently on this site that acts to shut down anyone who questions the club.

Ok, that's an article in the mail which talks about how the post covid market is a tough one for everyone amongst other things. Still would like to know why you think it is noticeable that the club are drip feeding excuses?

Because if the journalism was decent in that site we would have seen it over the last year, not just now.

I don't get either extreme really. The flapping and abuse towards the club on twitter is way OTT. But the idea to just have complete faith is the same.

Last summer we did some poor business and made some errors. We made surviving a very difficult task with the business we did.

    So far that hasn't changed.

Totally agree but apparently unless you have blind faith you are to be mocked.

Good chunk of their articles are headlines like "Go and get him" based on a random on Twitter reacting to made up internet rumours

But exactly. They then change and give a really interesting article that represents the club well and we’re supposed to believe it wasn’t fed by the club?

Back that up with some links and prove it or GTFO.

The Bham Mail has spent the whole season flogging crap about JG being sold but then suddenly comes out with an insightful article about our transfer limitations...

literally, this is the only article all year that wasn’t click bait or already confirmed.

Whilst true to some extent, why then are our owners telling our players we will be improving the squad to be well away from any relegation battle?

That interview from Purslow was from February yet so many have jumped on it over the last 2 days. Never mentioned before.

I think it is noticeable that the excuses are starting to be drip fed from the club.

There are many clubs constrained by FFP and other issues that are strengthening their squads. We are not and it is a failing. Just because I love the club does not mean I can’t question their ability to perform in the transfer market.

Again, you have pointed out the issue and are still wondering (moaning) why we are not signing people.

We are taking our time because we are not going to jump feet first into car crash signings anymore.

Ah yes, much much better to make no attacking signings at all after promising the players and manager they would. Good stuff.

  9. The Athletic are reporting that Newcastle have bid 17.5m plus add ons and confirmed that Bournemouth want Matt Ritchie. I can see that deal coming off which is a shame because I was just warming to the idea.

  10. Re the wages...

If we’re going up against teams such a Fulham and West Ham for players, it has already been discussed how London clubs have an automatic advantage (especially if the player is already based there). Our reputation is not what it was and will take a while to rebuild so they probably are going to have to offer big bucks to convince players to come.

Our wage structure is low which has served us well during the pandemic but realistically if we want to maintain PL status, it will need to rise.

Was watching John Swift against Spurs today. Didn't look out of place at all against PL opposition. His teammates looked a bit flustered early on and couldn't cope with Spurs' manic press but he was calm and collected. Quick thinking and quick feet. Almost the complete opposite to Hourihane who I imagine he'd be replacing. But just like Hourihane he offers almost nothing with respect to protecting the defence, but to be fair he does look to be more of an attacking midfielder. He also takes a mean set piece and has a good cross in him. I wouldn't be against signing him at all for £8m or whatever it is. I want to improve our first XI as much as the next man but I wouldn't be against upgrading or squad options too.

Squad options are going to be especially important as the PL are apparently going to the 5 subs rule to the revote in September 3rd. Big 6 weren’t happy they lost.

I get that, but I would guess its quite easy to quash fake news...just deny the link.

Yes! I also wish they would do that but then they might aswell just advertise the ones they really are into.

eg...AVFC are in for Higuan, Eze, Abraham, Buendia, Trippier, Rashica...”no, we’re not”

AVFC are in for Aarons, Watkins, Edouard....”no comment”.

I remember speaking to Brian Little at one of the supporters forums many moons ago.....and he made reference to being  careful not to be publically linked with too many players, that we don't get.....he said its a bad vibe for prospective recruits.....He said its important to be reasonably sure the targetted player, wants to come to us and we are successful.

I can totally see that logic but we don’t have much control over that these days with fake accounts on Twitter linking us to everyone. I really wish the club would get one decent one over the line tho.

Agreed but we can’t wait too long.

    A) we want players in to gel etc.

B.) before the end of the window we play Sheff U and Fulham, two huge games in the sense we will be targeting 6 points. We can’t afford to lose those as we really would be behind the 8 ball. Risk not worth taking starting with Samatta and the garbage entourage.

This sums it up. It’s like the people that are soooo relaxed about our lack of transfer business think that points only count after October 5th. We need people in place before these games.
