Smith calls him Ghazi I’ve noticed.

Harry is pushing for JT. Reckon Frank wants another PL job, maybe Palace if Roy Hodgson goes in the summer.

He’s getting heavily linked to the Bournemouth job again. He applied and didn’t get it last summer.
It’s hard to judge the impact of an assistant coach but he seems v well thought of at Villa so it would be a shame to see him go, particularly in the middle of a season that is going well. If he does go, I hope it is not too disruptive to us.

Mat Ryan if he is fit, failing that Runarsson.

Who can take Jack away from Aston Villa when he's leading his boyhood team out to the CL theme at Villa Park and real belief that we can fight for a title? What could you realistically offer that's better than that?
What do you think he’s doing? Aiming for 8th? You can tell by the way we play we try and win every game we start.

Jack and Targett need to keep their heads. Losing either for West Ham massively weakens us
I was thinking about this earlier and came to the (possibly insane) conclusion that Targett would be a bigger miss than Grealish for that one match. We could shuffle round our attacking options and throw El Ghazi back in to cover Jack and probably still be able to score but losing Targett would really unbalance and weaken our defence. Let’s hope neither scenario occurs.

Was worried about the Burnley game but feeling weirdly optimistic about this one. 2-1 Villa.

Nice interview.

Henri Lansbury going to Bristol City on a permanent transfer. Sanson could have had the 8 shirt.

I thought they would be exempt under the elite athlete rule but yes we’d cope. Heaton for Martinez and Sanson for Luiz as presumably Nakamba would also have to quarantine
edit Nakamba depending on the quarantine laws re Zimbabwe.

It's really difficult to criticize Deano after the improvements we have made this season but I think at 2-1 last night we needed to sub Barkley and Traore. Barkley could barely run and ducked out on a couple of tackles. Cash was exposed down our right side and had insufficient support from Traore.
For me Nakamba for Barkley and Trezeguet for Traore
First post so don't be too harsh on me
You’re right, Traore and Barkley were the obvious ones to be replaced, preferably abound the 65-75 minute mark.

Agree, was hugely positive about us but he fell into the trap of talking about a Grealish transfer which he wouldn’t have done if we put that game to bed.

Anybody on Twitter, get over to the soccer Am page and vote for him as full back of the season so far. Some shocking admissions from their original list so they’ve added an extra round. Completely pointless and trivial but he deserves the recognition.
-
Good lad for clearing that up. But the more I look at this seasons hair, the more I miss last seasons hair.

I think he might bring Trez in for Traore on Saturday. I’d be ok with that, mix it up a bit. Smith was commenting in the last day or so that they are not doing that much in training because of the intense run of games, that it was mostly about playing and then recovery. For that reason, I think we won’t see much of Sanson until he properly has chance to integrate and train with the rest of them. I’d expect him to be in the bench tho and maybe make an appearance.

Jack himself said at the start 8 - 12 was probably the aim.
Looking at the table, and teams above, 8th could very well be our 'title'.
9 place improvement that.
Considering how much money everyone above us as spent over the years it would still be some feat.
Still ALOT of season left to play and we could very well still go on a good run, whilst others fall off.
That’s true, I forgot that. Problem is, this season, the Europe spots are up for the taking from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea. We need to take advantage of that. We still haven’t played half our season yet, plenty of hope yet.

Unfair on McGinn to be fair. Just a reaction post game!
You’re probably right.

You would not believe this was the same team that defended like Trojans against Man City for 80 mins. We let Burnley back into that game, it’s on us.

Davis, El ghaz and trez coming on shows we still need better quality from the bench. Sanson will improve us
To be fair, Trez and El Ghazi aren’t bad options but should have come on sooner. Not just saying it in hindsight, wanted it from around the 65 minute mark.

Look, it's one of those one's where you could analyse it all day long and say where it went wrong. We probably should of had them bet out the gate by half time. It's a sickener and will sting for the evening but the beauty of this is we don't really have time to get too high when we are up and too down when we lose. Get ready for Southampton and go again.
Agree, on the plus side, no injuries and no bookings.
-
Sanson walks into that midfield. McGinn was not great tonight.

No exaggeration - I don't think I've ever seen us play so well and lose.
We didn't even waste chances - pope saved them.
If I'm going to criticize anyone and it's very harsh. Martinez thus far this season, saves at least those last two.
We didn’t play well second half, they were worthy of a point, not 3.

It’s games/results like this that will lose us Grealish.

I think we’ve looked poor since the Covid break. Did some great defending against Man City, had an average performance against an awful Newcastle, defensively poor against Burnley (tho some lovely stuff in the first half) then lucky v Southampton. We look a completely different team to the December one.
