This is Aston Villa.  The unknown untested keeper will make a stream of world class saves and well you know it.

It’s almost guaranteed that he will have the game of his life.

So why is he often the standout performer for Scotland, ahead of many other capable footballers? Absolutely nothing to do with how he is utilised at all?

Denmark is the first top class opposition that I’ve seen him stand out against for Scotland. He was playing as part of a front 3 apparently completely different position than he plays for us .

I love him, find him equally joyous and frustrating and really really hope that he thrives under the new regime.

there's something fishy about west ham not even really having that much buzz around him in the summer, might be he straight up said dont bother or utd asked for silly money or even west ham like him but dont see value in him

Yes! Would have thought they would have been desperate for him but they didn’t seem that bothered. It was odd. I think he told them he wanted to go back to United and now he’s realising what a good thing he had.

Sure there will be more appluading than not. Can't say it's been the most Popular appointment I've known. He won't get much slack if things go awry.

Well, then we get what we deserve.
Most of the people I know are fully behind him even if they didn’t agree with Smiths sacking.
Generally, our fans realise that there will be a period of readjustment and we might have to support him through a sticky patch to start with.

No matter what his reasons, you can see he’s desperate to make a success of this. Good luck to him.

Just read somewhere that he won't be available for Brighton, having "picked up a knock" during a trip home to France.

Bumped his knee getting off the train? Strained his back lifting his suitcase?

This is far beyond a joke now.

I’ve read this too. Gerrard has said he’s out injured for Saturday. He was definitely fit before the international break. I wonder if he’s downed tools and wants out. You would think a new manager would be a new opportunity. Had hoped we’d see him but am starting to think he’ll be gone in January.
Or maybe he really did just pull a muscle at Disneyland Paris.

That whole thing was pointless, he has another presser pregame tomorrow, with likely same questions.  It would have been better to let the bloke use the time afforded to him with the team.

Another one? Really? God today’s really was pointless, no wonder it seemed awkward. Mondays interview was great, should have gone from that straight to the pre-game conference. Have they confirmed he has another tomorrow…what’s left to say?

Nice that here are no favorites.

The likes of McGinn and Watkins can actually be dropped and that's OK. The world isn't gonna end.

Well it would for this match, we’re struggling to name a starting 11 as it is!

  8. With Luiz, Sanson and Nakamba all looking likely to be out, I guess the options are playing one of Tuanzebe/Hause further forward or playing Buendia ahead of McGinn and Ramsey with Ings, Watkins and Bailey up front. Either way, not sure this is going to be the positive start we all wanted.

Just realised as a member I can watch it for free 🤣 weird that season card holders don't get the same

Not sure that’s true. Thought you had to pay the £30 Villa tv subscription. Can you watch it without that?

Only seen the 4:30 min clip Sky showed on Youtube. I'm trying to work out if someone has died???? That didn't look too comfortable for Gerrard or Puslow. Puslow looked like he'd been crying, Gerrard looked pretty nervous. I hope it ended better.

I haven’t seen it but Rangers fans crowing that he looks like he knows he’s made a mistake and looks miserable. Was it that bad?

Once again the cringe factor is off the scale. I get the new manager buzz, I really do and I'm fairly confident he could be a success, but please, people need to stop creaming themselves.

A bit of " parliamentary procedure " would be nice.

I think the boredom of the international break and all the hype and PR that has come with the appointment has allowed people to move very quickly through the stages of not considering him to be good enough for the job to now thinking we are lucky to have him. All without a ball being kicked. Maybe we are lucky, time will tell. We could all come crashing down to Earth with a bump if they play really badly on Saturday.

True but which players will he only have 48 hours with that are key? Martinez/Mings/Cash/Bailey? He'll know all about the first three without having to have moved from his set top box at home - and being in the game is likely to know about Bailey. Not sure it'll be too taxing for him.

Also McGinn, Ramsey and Nakamba. Not sure what the state of play is with Luiz or Sanson so the midfield will be the most interesting section dilemma.

  14. Bit disappointed they’re even doing an introductory press conference tbh. His interview was great, received plenty of publicity, loads of day 1 training ground coverage- fine. The next time I expected to hear from him was the pre Brighton press conference, just him talking the usual pre match stuff. Don’t need to see Lange and Purslow grinning next to him. It’s getting over hyped, which, a couple of days before a match, is asking for a big come down.

Based on what? Did Rangers get more fans vs Kilmarnock or Ross County because of him?

The ‘new manager’ interest will wane quick esp if we aren’t doing that well.

After watching the interview a couple of times, I have the feeling this has been in the making far longer than we realise. It all seems far too seamless in how quickly everything came together. I also call BS on the Weds stuff because it was commonish knowledge that reps met up on Monday evening. Call it intuition or guesswork but something tells me this was always the next move on from Smith. I think conversations would have happened a long time ago about this becoming a possibility somewhere down the line.

Anyway it's about the hear and now and good luck to him.

Totally agree. Even I knew we were interested in him by Wednesday so I’m guessing he knew long before that.

  17. I keep going full circle with this one. First unimpressed that we’d even consider him, then keen to get it over the line, then happy it was done, then thinking we’d made a mistake then massively impressed by his interview and excited. Now, I’m back to remembering that we’ve still got the same players and the same injury issues (possibly new ones as well after international break). He’s not the second coming and we should maybe temper expectation.

The PR for this one has been off the scale is excellent.

Did anyone else get the impression that Dean was a little too laid back or accepting of our situation? Who knows what went on behind the scenes but I didn’t feel a sense of urgency or determination to get the players fit and on form. Not an easy situation, I know. And of course he tried to do what he could… But he just came across as easy going and continually said we’ll get better or we’ll finish in the top 10… but where were the signs of that? Maybe he wasn’t entirely happy? I don’t know, I guess it’s just speculation.

I’m just wondering and hoping that if Gerrard and co. bring a fresh and more disciplined approach, raising standards for the players etc. not taking any shit, that it could work out well for us… many of the players seemed mopey or clueless at times… wasn’t happy with soem of the tantrums… Maybe we needed that refresher but it’ll be a while before I shake the sadness of Dean’s departure and the shattering of the dreams of many of his supporters. Would’ve loved to see him lead us into Europe eventually…

Time to step up to the plate SG, no pressure 🤣

Yes. I fully expect there to be an upturn in determination, attitude and discipline. Not a massive one, because our fundamentals are right but fine tuning that adds that steely grit.

Well, if the article in Daily Heil is to be believed we have only a very tiny amount of wiggle room when it comes to FFP so I wouldnt expect too much incoming in January unless we move players out/ box clever.

It also says that our they have not taken account of the Jack Grealish sale so they presume we are in a much healthier position.

He said something about a club being a pleasure to negotiate with, was he referring to Rangers or Villa I didn’t quite catch it?

He said that Villa have said that Rangers were a pleasure to deal with, which I’m sure will delight Rangers fans that they were so lovely to us as we took all their staff.

    The other candidates weren’t named.
