I got burnt last time when I said McGinn was out with COVID and it ended up on Twitter so I won’t say much other than it’s not near as bad as being an “outbreak”

If some of the positive cases were on the coach yesterday, there is every chance it could turn into an outbreak though?

Loved Gerrard's game face today.  Here on business, acknowledges his history with Liverpool but came as a Villa man.  A million miles away from Houllier at Anfield.

I think he’s handled it impeccably all week unlike the media and his mates who have turned it into a complete circus.
Ive no doubt he probably would have wanted a big love in with the Kop but knows that day will come when he goes back there and today he’s there for us.
Sent the right message to his team aswell. He can’t ask them to run through brick walls for him if he’s there having his ego flattered by the opposition fans.

  3. Just watched a bit of Sky Sports News. I know Gerrards return is the big story of the game but I’m bored of the level of coverage already. I can’t wait until this game is over. Not feeling overly optimistic about the 90 mins either.

I'm not sure what you're comparing it to. For a standard premier league game, so not for a proper local derby or important match, has there ever been consistent singing throughout the 90 minutes? Like I mean historically, was there a period of years where we used to sing consistently throughout the match, irrespective of occasion and opposition. Because I dont remember it.

I’m comparing it to the several hundred other football matches I’ve been to over the years. I obviously don’t expect constant singing but the Holte End was silent for v prolonged periods in that first half. That’s why the Leicester fans were taking the piss and they weren’t the first fans to do it this season.

What I would change would be the unnecessary noise blasted pre kick off, and equally the songs played after a win. Just silence please, and the crowd. They're the two best occasions for song interactions with the players.

Used to love that early 2000s when the holte end would go through the repertoire of player songs before the game. With Alpay charging towards the Holte End like the nutter he was.

I am so bored of Sweet Caroline. But we don’t have a choice because they force it on us at the end of every win.

I assume the Southgate thing is because the club want to be seen to support the England manager and distance themselves from any perceived conflict between the two parties - helps with the perception of the club from media and players, especially young ones and agents who will want their clients at a club that has a good relationship with the national team.

Yes, that makes a lot of sense. Thanks.

  7. I’m glad you clarified because you can almost feel the contempt come through in a few of those answers. Good to hear the meeting was more positive. In all fairness, I think Villa TV is excellent value for money and I have no problem with them charging for the content they provide.

The Gareth Southgate thing…I couldn’t care less whether they wish him happy birthday or not but it makes you wonder who the social media channels are for.   It’s like last weeks Grealish tweet, they know the fans won’t respond well to it but they do it anyway. So who’s benefit is it for? It’s a really petty little thing but sometimes I think there is a bit of a disconnect between club and fanbase.

Who do the answers come from?

  8. We have 3 key players one yellow card away from suspension- Cash, McGinn and Mings. Do you think we will see any attempts to pick up a booking in different games so they stagger their absences or do you think they will cross their fingers and hope they make it through to New Year with no further bookings but also risk 2-3 being out for the same game.

This is late, but i've just listened to the MOMS Podcast on the way to the office.

Pep sad " He loves this club, more than any other club, when he the 40 years old, he will come back "

Erm.... was that meant to make us feel good? lol

I have no doubt he intended that to come across every bit as insulting as it sounded.

  10. They do have AC Milan away but they’re already guaranteed top spot in their group so Klopp has said he will heavily rotate his squad.  They will definitely be saving people for the game against us. It’s far more important for them.

I agree ... personally I wouldn't be in a rush to bomb Matty cash out of the club ...but I can see it happening.

I cannot see upgrading Cash being a priority.

I have thought about how Gerrard would handle the Argentinian situation. Where Dean said he didn’t want them to travel and the next minute they’re posting pics on the plane. Wonder whether that would play out the same.

I don't think he was suggesting people were kicking up a fuss.

I simply took it to me that they were asking players to play in different ways, to adapt their games to how they want to play and that they perhaps weren't fully convinced yet. I don't think that is that unusual or concerning following a change of manager, I'd say it is fairly common in fact new managers need results to demonstrate their way works. The Gerrard name would have been good only so long, probably until the first training session.

Still would love to know who he’s talking about though as it comes across like a few first teamers. Unless, he’s playing complete mind games with them to not let them get complacent as he, quite rightly, was distinctly unimpressed with the first half.

  13. I don’t see us getting anything from Liverpool so I’m desperate for us just not to lose this one. No matter who the opposition, 3 losses on the trot is a confidence denter. Leicester are now finding form as is Maddison. Will be a tough one.

That’s certainly the case for the guy who didn’t have a question towards the end. Surely you have a couple of questions, no matter how benal that you can throw in. “Does your wife like The Bullring”, sort of nonsense.

Nope, he was better asking nothing than asking something rubbish. I think the next guy asks what pleased him most about the two wins to which he basically had to repeat everything he’d said before. Tbf I think it’s a rough deal getting to ask the last questions at a press conference, unless you’ve got something v specific to ask. Most stuff will have been covered already.
