  1. There’s going to be some crazy results come out of this.

It’s been reported that one of the fixtures called off over the weekend was more due to unvaccinated players having to self isolate following a contact than positive cases.

Hard to work out where we are this and how many first teamers we can field. I don’t blame the clubs for playing their cards close to our chest.

I would imagine he's just trying to not get too involved in pushing vaccines publicly (though I agree with you. They should all be more like Klopp about it).

I suppose it could also be that it's been a difficult conversation with one (or some) of the squad and he was trying to not seem like he was taking it semi public to force their hand. Whilst it's all been good news out of the club and obviously his name and career afford him a good amount of respect from the start... He hasn't been here long or achieved enough in his managerial career to maybe be as cavalier as Klopp has been at pushing his players publicly. He's still winning some over - so was pro vaccine in his sentiment but not as pushy as Klopp

The other difference could also just be that Klopp maybe had more of a pro-vaccine group of players, didn't need to convince many of them and could be more outspoken without offending important members of his squad. I'd certainly hope not - but maybe we have more staunch anti-vax or sceptical people in our squad so it's tougher for Gerrard to be as public about it

    All fair points.

  3. Anybody else surprised he didn’t have a stronger opinion on vaccinations amongst players? He gave it the whole yes we want them to but we have to respect them blah but I kind of expected him to put a bit more subtle pressure on the unvaccinated ones. He must know that our whole season got derailed last year when we had been flying because of a massive outbreak. I thought he’d be a stronger voice on it. Klopp has been excellent, talking about solidarity and trusting the science, I bet none of his players would dare not do as he asks.
When clubs have massive differences in vaccination rates, the influence must come from the management although yes, some of that would have preceded him. I hope they’re all getting their arses in gear now.

Yes. I’m aware that some people will still catch it after vaccination.

As i am a technophobe would someone cut n paste the bbc football article that has just gone up about Gerrard. It reads brilliantly and reaffirms everything i have got to love about him in just 6 weeks

Sorry, can’t work out how to either. Nice read though, confirms that family was the main reason to move away from Rangers. Says all the right things about Villa. Seems happy with his decision.

I wish the interviewer dug a little into that 'European football next season' quote. Worried.

Yes, he “feels” he can do it with Villa. And if he can’t??

The only thing, I think, will upset some, is he is doing for him, but I think we just have to accept that......its like Hamilton and Mercedes.( Hamilton does it for Hamilton, but Mercedes get the associated benefit)

Will he grow attached to us, in time.....I have no idea.

Definitely sees us as a development move and nothing more. That’s not to say he won’t enjoy it here and maybe grow to have a little affection for the place…but attachment…not a chance. He’ll drop us as fast as Rangers when the moment is right for him.

To be honest, if he drags us into Europe, I don’t even care how he feels about us. We’ve had the manager who loved us and he took us as far as he could, this is the next level, SG just needs achieve what the club want him too. Anybody expecting love and loyalty from him will likely be disappointed in 2-3 years time.

  7. Watching him on the pitch, in interviews and on social media, he just seems so much happier recently. His whole body language has changed for the better. Seems to be enjoying himself again.

29 is old in footballing terms.

And some age worse than others.

Ings just seem way off the pace, and as I've said we seem to be playing better without him in the team.

Have you actually watched him in person this season?

Prior to his injury, I was hugely impressed with his work off the ball, his running and pressing. He’s had a lay off and is returning to fitness in a system that might not exactly suit him. He will score plenty more for us.

The Burnley game will be a good test. Last season we absolutely obliterated them...but somehow still lost.

They took 4 points off us last season despite being worse in both games. We definitely need to inflict some pain on them. Was disappointed to see their game got cancelled tonight as they’ll be fresher.

I'm confused.... I thought the Premier League said no more games would be postponed? And yet Burnley-Watford has been? I must have misunderstood something.

I was also confused but maybe they’re thinking no more games postponed after this round of fixtures. Although I wouldn’t overthink it as it’s an ever changing picture. We’ll be lucky to have any football at all at this rate.

The fan base is a kaleidoscope of personalities, subsequently, opinions.....so to label them all as one, is misleading.

Totally. It really gets on my nerves with, particularly in relation to the JG situation when the media were “Villa fans this” and “villa fans that”. There was a massive spectrum of opinion on that and various issues. There are v  few issues that we all actually agree.

Its probably either him or Luiz who will probably be the next ones to leave Villa. I hope they both stay but we know the footballing food chain.

Well you picked your user name well.

Bless, he looked so nervous in that interview 😄

Easy to forget his age and relative inexperience with the way he's been playing this season.

The things he says sound confident but his shakey voice gives away his nerves. Fair play for putting himself up to do the media stuff.

I don’t know who Chris Sutton is, but if he thinks it was a shot he needs to get his eyes checked. Carney wraps his boot around it in a way that could only have been meant for the ball to cut across goal.

Really??? Or just a turn of phrase?

Here we go, we might get 90 mins of Sanson tonight, its been horrible waiting to see what this chap can do..

He looks sharp, and can carry the ball forward well from tight spaces. God i hope he comes good, our midfield really needs it

edit - ffs just seen he has covid from match thread. I should have known. gutted.

    Covid says no.

So glad he's proving the many doubters wrong. He won my heart with that beautiful, old school seventies, tackle on Aguero. I really don't think Aguero was quite the same player after being on the end of that tackle.

    Loved it!!!
