Probably mentioned already but it was telling from Howe in the pregame that he said Villa have a way they play and I'm very confident they will stick to that plan

Came on to post this exact same thing. He knew exactly what we were going to do and how to deal with it. I wasn’t sure if he was having a sly little piss take to be honest. Gerrard still has my support but he is absolutely wedded to this system that isn’t working for us.

Well if he leaves the Villa to a “bigger” club then there will be a shock because playing out of position occasionally and having serious competition for your position happens all the time, so he needs to put on his big girls blouse and sort himself out because it’s not going to help us if he stays and we are going to move to the next level because it’s just going to happen more.

Oh I agree. I just think having a poor season due to becoming a father is nonsense.

I honestly suspect it’s got something to do with his fairly recent fatherhood. He’s not been right since the Child has been born

I’m amazed this got so many likes. Surely it’s more to do with the fact that we signed Ings around the same time and he had a pre season injury and then he has been played out of position a number of times leading to possibly a loss of confidence.

He’s always (at Villa at least) been a player who looked like his world was ending if he wasn’t scoring, he was the same last year. I’ve definitely seen him celebrate other players goals including Ings. I reckon all good strikers are would be secretly pi**ed off if a team mate passed to a midfielder if they themselves were open.

It probably is a bit of a mentality thing, last season he was breaking into the England squad, he’d probably hoped to establish himself as the 3rd striker and maybe go to the World Cup, that’s a pipe dream on current form.

Insta would also suggest that he and his partner are just fine not that social media is a true indicator. I just think that his sour face is purely footballing related.

This tweet came up on my feed as an account I follow (Ghana Lions) had liked it. Thought the printouts of Leeds players was quite interesting:

Gives their position, height, 1st contact percentage (whatever that means), and SP goals (whatever that means).

Also a few bullet points about what I'm going to assume is the player's preferred moves. Just thought it was an interesting bit of insight.

That photo came up on my timeline and I scrolled straight past it. Never even noticed the printout outs.

    SP- Shot percentage?

He can still improve defensively though. If you compare him to Gallagher, another young nr 8, Gallagher does a lot more work all over the pitch.

I’ve wondered if his forward play is shining so much because he’s been absolved of all defensive duties.

Not as good as last year. Who knows why.

Yes. Our defence conceded a lot of shots last season and he earned us draws and wins with his amazing repeated shot stopping. Over and over again in some matches (Brighton away I think?).

This season he’s not really doing anything wrong (apart from the United game) and has made some excellent saves but is looking reasonably easy to beat. I can’t believe the same defence (Targetts played most games) kept 15 clean sheets last season.

Coutinho: "I really like it here. I missed the Premier League & the people here. I don't want to live in the past, I'm here at a great club & I want to give my best & enjoy my football here. The atmosphere in the stadium is incredible, it's amazing."

Coutinho on Gerrard: "We spoke a lot before I came. He spoke about the club/ambitions/fans, his ambitions & for sure it was what I wanted. I decided very quickly. I'm here now and I'm very happy at the moment."

Coutinho: "[Gerrard's ambitions are] to give our best. We have a great squad we have great players and we know we can be in a better position than we are now, that's what we are working for. His ambition is to go up, day by day, game by game."

Coutinho: "We want to be in the first position, for now we know it's a little bit long, but our ambition is always to be the best we can be. It's always nice when you have someone who believes in you. I want to give the best to repay that confidence on the pitch."

Coutinho on Jacob Ramsey: "He's a top player. He's very young and he's playing really well. I really enjoy playing with him and with all my team-mates. If I can help him, I will try to do my best. For sure, he has a great future."

Season over if we lose this.

Huge concerns if we offer up another smelly performance.

    Up the villa.

I don’t think we’ve got a cat in hells chance of getting Europe. The Brentford loss ended that. The main aim for this season is a top half finish which is still very achievable and making us look like an attractive proposition to future signings.

  9. I’d be surprised if he got selected for the senior England team when JWP is only just breaking through and then also in midfield he’s up against Bellingham, Conor Gallagher, Harvey Elliott, Emile Smith Rowe also in form young players looking to make the step up. Bellinghams definitely ahead already but he’s probably pretty level with the others.

Theres a lot of established names in midfield. I reckon Southgate will be happy to have him knocking around the under 23s for a bit longer. Which is fine by me.

I wouldnt bring it up, but he did. He came out today as a supporter of the racist, anti vaxxer , neo nazi Canadian truckers today in his Aston Villa / Leeds review. Or "freedom lovers" as he mischaracterized them. Anyways your call what to do with that but those are his views. Personally I wont be watching him anyway as I dont think politics have any business in a Villa pod but as he brought it up you should probably know before you give him clicks. You can make your own judgements.

    What did he say?

  11. It’s typical that the pundits did a feature on him And said that he was a consistent 7-8/10 performer then 15 minutes later he gives a solid 5/10 performance. maybe he just doesn’t like being linked to United.

  12. I’m nowhere near as disappointed as some. Yes we were 3-1 up but it was at no point a typical game. It was nuts…there was obviously going to be more goals. If we hadn’t have lost key attacking players we probably would have scored more.
Annoying yes but world ending, no.

    Hopefully injuries not too bad.

Way too much cockiness in here.

A (very) hard fought 2-1 win I think. Leeds always up their game against us for some shite reason.

Also BT Sport bigging us up a lot. Makes me nervous. Sometimes I prefer being the under dog. Leeds will be well up for this.

  14. I think they’ll be fine, they have DCL and Doucoure to come back. It won’t be comfortable for them but they’ll survive.
Now Newcastle have improved, I don’t see relegation being anything other than Burnley, Norwich and Watford.

  15. And, once fit his form improved again under Smith in the early part of the season but once Gerrard came in and changed the system that’s when it became clear he was out of favour.

Like many on here, I don’t blame him for wanting a new opportunity because let’s face it, he wasn’t getting his place back unless Digne got injured. I’m more surprised that we sanctioned a move that assisted Newcastle and weakened us, especially so soon after Gerrard said he wanted two players competing for each spot. I’d also be surprised if Chrisene was our back up left back next season when he’s completely untested at this level unless he gets an opportunity and smashes it this season.
