He was basically being shopped out by Juventus. They rejected our low-ball bid. If even Spurs come into the picture like "ehh why not?" and buy the player, that player was definitely gettable.

No. We were in the mix, then Spurs joined in with similar numbers being talked about and suddenly it’s “Villa have pulled out of the race” and player joins Spurs. He chose them.

We can generate some serious cash from player sales this Summer:

    Luiz - 25m
    McGinn - 40m
    Cash - 30m
    Watkins - £40m
    Targett - £25m
    Traore - £10m
Trezeguet and El Ghazi - £10m combined.

We have saleable assets and we can easily raise £100m if we want to. The prices above are completely random and I have no idea what the club would accept but they are tough ball park. We don’t even need to sell any of the players above if we don’t want to, but I imagine we’ll need to sell one or two on top of spending the 100m we’ll probably look to outlay.

Of that list, I think we’ll probably only sell Luiz, Targett, Trez and possibly one of Traore or El Ghazi. I think that will bring in about 55-60 mil.

football insider is reporting that we are looking to sell Konsa..... not that they are that reputable

They’re not reliable at all. I do think we would be open to silly offers on him though as he has about 3 years left on his contract so we would make a hefty profit. I just want to see him return to last seasons form.

I still think we should have kept him here. Honestly its crazy having ash young as backup rb when we have a talent like kesler as cover

I think the plan was that Konsa and Chambers are both able to cover RB. But then straight after the window closes, Konsa gets suspended for two matches and we need Chambers starting leaving us no RB cover. If that hadn’t happened, KKH wouldn’t be getting any minutes for us, just knocking around the squad on match days and playing for the u23s which would probably be seen as a step down developmentally.

This is funny considering we apparently shipped out Targett because he isn't suited for our system. So we brought in a guy who can't work in our system either.

I’m starting to get the impression that 95% of the fullbacks in the prem would struggle in our system.

I swear we are cursed. Any glimpse of positivity is quickly snuffed out. See, just from this season, the Smith/Shakespeare/Grealish Villa fan love in to the Gerrard/Coutinho/Digne revolution. Everything always VERY quickly goes to shit at Villa. I wonder what the next false dawn will be.

It does feel like this sometimes. As a fanbase we are seriously due some luck and a good run.

Day 1 Gerrard: “Im all in!”

    12 games in:spacer.png

He expects players to “run through walls for him” but deserts the technical area when we’re losing two games in a row. I know that picture is not from yesterday but he did it yesterday too. Not great.

Literally hate going to football games because of this, and it’s REALLY bad at VP. Hard to enjoy the game or want to get involved when someone coked out of their mind is screaming and purple in the face for 90 mins

Think it’s more personality than coke with him.  But, yeah, not fun sitting near him and I love noisy football matches, don’t mind swearing particularly, expect emotion but jeez the rage all the time, too much. There was an elderly lady who used to sit behind me on the Holte in the 90s who was a bit like it too. Definitely wasn’t coke with her. Funnily enough the people who go with the ragey types are pretty quiet.

  9. I sit Trinity Lower, bloke near us just rages for every minute of every game. At the Villa players, at the opposition players, at the officials, at Roy Hodgson today. Nothing racist, homophobic etc just constant negativity, very loud constant anger. Does it even when we play well. He sits close to the pitch as well, players must be able to hear him screaming at them. I know some people say it’s better to have fans like that than those who don’t make much noise but it’s hard work sitting near him never mind playing in front of him.

Ye sorry sarcastic wasnt right. It was almost like a statement from him I think to say, "here I am". You had a load clapping him and about 3 or 4 around me shouting f*** of ollie. I wonder if it was partly from him in response to the online grief he has received. He didnt break eye contact with the people in the lower holte and he was at the six yard box. Clearly hes struggling, I think he just needs the fans support.

Don’t apologise, neither of us are mind readers. In my opinion it was his effort to reconnect with the fan base and a few threw it back in his face which was a shame. Totally agree that he would benefit from some fan adoration.

  11. Chambers has been decent for us so far. Certainly value for money.

I noticed one point in the game when Watford had a throw in Trinity side and Mings was giving instruction for everyone to get closer to the throw. He looked a bit peplexed as to whether he should just drop his man or or do as was told. He did as was told. No harm came.

To be fair, he was as big a contributor as anyone else to the poor play in midfield, making plenty of loose passes. Thought Ramsey was comfortably our best player but he needs better quality around him.

Was also really lightweight and easily muscled off the ball. A few moments of magic but not his best game.

Anyone see his clapping at the holte end at the end. I want to say it was sarcastic but that might not be the right word and I dont know his intention. But he never comes that close to the six yard box in the clapping the fans after, even after we win or he scores. He had a lot of people in the lower holte shouting abuse back at him which didn't help.

Also while we're on not helping, the bellends booing and sarcastically cheering douglas Luiz, honestly what's the point.

I thought fair play to him for walking straight over the the Holte and clapping the fans. It wasn’t sarcastic and I think he was trying to do a good thing, he was the first of the players over. But then some idiots apparently gave him abuse(I haven’t seen it myself but heard about it). He might not be in the best form this season but doesn’t deserve that crap. I’ve heard that a fan had a go at Mings as well, what did he do wrong??

Things aren’t great but when did making the players feel like s**t ever help?

PS @Laughable Chimp, I just used the snippet from your post for comic effect as it was one of the first ones I stumbled upon while randomly clicking pages looking for such posts.

I mean, we did dominate possession in the end. I don't think the midfield was the issue. We just couldn't craft chances.

It was a dire performance but weren’t our possession stats the highest we’ve had all season at least under Gerrard, like 63% or something? Like you said we were just completely ineffective.

No way, would we have acquiited ourselves like Wolves and Leeds to come back like they did.....its simply not in us.

I think SG saw something on Sunday, he was not quite aware of, because he doesn't see the same thing at BMH ...something Dean touched on.

This could be a bumpy ride....but SG has to be backed to see it through.

It was in us only a few weeks ago when we came from 2-0 down to draw against a United side who beat Brighton last night.

This league is brutal. The top 3 really are a class above everyone else. Then you have sides like Wolves, Brighton and West Ham who are in generally rich veins of form mainly achieved by good coaching and consistency. They have a few stars as do we. But really anyone can beat anyone and every game is a battle. We played Leeds at their own game and drew. Most will see this as a negative but for those that say we have no fight in us, those Leeds players were exhausted by the end, a team whose running stats are famously through the roof. Both us and them felt the effects a few days later and paid the consequences.

Part of our problem this season has been the dip in form of individuals- Watkins, Konsa, and Martinez to name a few.
Then a change of manager and style.
Then, as outlined by most of VT, the failure to buy a defence minded midfielder which is essential to be able to play Gerrards system effectively. We are going to struggle unless he tweaks things.

However, I’m well over the doom and gloom now. We have some excellent players, a manager on the up, and great owners. Yes there needs to be some outgoings in the summer. I honestly believe that all talk of £35 million bids for Luiz was generated by us and we are desperate for someone to take him off our hands for a decent fee to buy the kind of player we actually need.

  17. I have no problem with Gerrard’s appointment, I like him and he has my support. It’s becoming clear that he has a lot to learn though. I wouldn’t mind our set up and play being very predictable if we were very good at what we do but we’re not and at the moment he doesn’t seem to have the answers for that. He also knew how much the Leeds game had taken out of the players physically, had the advantage of watching how Leeds capitulated against Everton and still picked almost the exact same side despite the Leeds performance not being exemplary.

The other thing I am slightly questioning (because I have no idea how the players really view things, I can only speculate) is his man management…the Targett situation being the obvious one. He was clearly a popular player, player POTS last year underperforming this season didn’t suit Gerrards style and just like that he’s shown the door. Yes they will say he wanted to leave but maybe those not playing need to be valued. I wonder how Sanson and Ings are feeling at the moment. It’s one thing Gerrard asking players to run through brick walls for him but that’s a big ask if it’s been made clear that you’re not one of the favourites and on the list to be shipped out asap.

Yesterday was a very bad day at the office but not just for the players.
