Can't help but think that if Arsenal make that 4th spot, which looks likely, they'll put a tempter bid in for him. London, Champions League? Or Steven Gerrard and 'a right good go at the top 8'?

I think people are just getting paranoid now. Arsenal have Odegaard and Martinelli. I can’t see them chucking 34 mill at 30 year old Coutinho.

Can we not just enjoy him and see how it goes? If he plays every game like Saturday, we’ll be in a great place to attract talent even cos we’ll have finished in the top ten. If he doesn’t then, I would bet it’s us who have the decision to make, not him.

  2. It’s one on paper we should win but this is the new managers home debut. Bamford returning from injury…no idea how this will go. Depends which Villa and which Leeds turn up. We’re both pretty unpredictable teams to be honest.

    What did he say?

He's slapped so many questions away about Liverpool. His words in public are absolutely top top drawer IMO.

I’m not sure I 100% believe him but he certainly says the right things.

If he's still playing with a smile on his face by the seasons over and has continued to impress, there's no doubt in my mind we'll make it permanent.

I suspect at this stage of his career he's more interested in enjoying football again and to try and win something at International level rather than strive to compete in competitions he's already won. but could be wrong.

This is what I think. He’s won everything at club level, sure it would be nice for him to win more but if he was as miserable as reported at Barca and has now started to feel happy, confident  and appreciated again, playing for a manager who is also a friend at a decent club in one of the best leagues in the world then he has a lot to be grateful for.

Plus, and a big plus, personal performance and game time will be everything to him in the run up to the World Cup. I actually think he’d be a bit mad to push for a move to a different club if he’s settled and playing well here.

And I’ve said before, yes we have the option to buy but no way are we triggering that if he doesn’t want to stay. I think he will though.

They've got a squad full of exceptionally talented individuals.  They can coast through most games and come away with the points because somebody will do a bit of magic (not unlike how Villa eventually got out of the Championship) but it turns out the gap between where they are and where they want to be is kinda huge and requires a bit more than hoping Pogba/Sancho/Ronaldo/Bruno wins a game on their own.

I agree, just annoying that this is the worst Utd side in decades and they’re still there or thereabouts the CL places and they knocked us out of the cup even though we were the better team.

No it's not. Mings made a point to talk to him and enjoy it. I was right in front

You’re both right. It was Mings who stopped him walking across the pitch and told him to leave at the nearest point. If he’d told him to lap up the plaudits, he probably wouldn’t have sent him in the direction of the away fans which is the way Countinho went.

My family and I have lived in the New Forest since the Mid-90s - so we have been surrounded by Saints fans for nearly 30 years.

Ive got a soft spot for them and like to see them do well and win - unless it’s against the Villa or Villas best interests…

So for us to hammer them and me to be humble has been a pleasant but challenging day 🤣

    Excellent, hope it’s been sweet!

  8. It’s a shame for him how it worked out with us for whatever reason but even if we had him back, he still wouldn’t be starting so it’s just nice that his career seems to be finally taking off and he’s found a club that are a good fit. I hope they want to keep him and we get a decent sum of money for him.

  9. Watched todays press conference. Interesting comments around Austin McPhee, sort of paid him a compliment but then went on to say how they were constantly analysing what works and would review at the end of the season. Also mentioned Villa had enough staff to coach several teams. Think he’ll be streamlining all those coaches and data analysts come the end of the season.

He seems to have his feet under the table now and less on the charm offensive. He’d make you feel like crap if you pissed him off I reckon.

You definitely didn't go straight to the upper Holte.

Lower Holte was open for quite a while before upper Holte opened.

I must have sat Lower Holte. Would definitely make more sense than them knocking up the entire stand in a summer!! Tbf it was a long time ago and I was quite young.

Win here would be result of the season.

I wouldn’t go that far but they’re certainly very strong and we’ll have to be on our A game. Their fans are going to be giving Ings loads of stick, really hope he scores.

When they built The Holte the lower section opened only a couple of months into the season.

The lower half of the New North Stand, or the Mallory Edens stand as I like to call it, should on it's own put Villa Park back to current capacity.

I was a Holte End season ticket holder when it was last a terrace and became a stand. In my mind there was a seamless transition from one to the other and I stood on the terrace at the end of the 93-94 season and then  took up my seat in the Holte Upper the next. This cannot have happened! I have no memory of what I did in the interim and I definitely didn’t miss any games. I must have sat elsewhere for a while yet if you’d have asked me before I read your post I would have sworn that the only time in the 90s that I sat elsewhere in the ground was for a Euro 96 game and a couple of testimonials/friendlies. Where did most  Holte Enders go whilst it was being rebuilt?

  13. Could someone more informed explain how he is going to be able conduct this business ie sell Chelsea if there are all these sanctions in place? Isn’t that the point…to make life difficult for him not enable him to realise their funds.

We need better personnel in the summer, in the middle, players who can stay on the ball, in the main....and control the middle of the park....better press resistant players.

I agree but it’s funny because yet again, twice in the last few days, I’ve seen John McGinn touted as being ideal for Man Utd. I have no desire to see him leave but sometimes I wonder whether these people have actually seen him play more than a couple of times (in todays case Rio Ferdinand).

  15. I keep reading it and can’t work out whether they mean the first phase of rebuilding the North Stand will increase capacity to 50k or whether the rebuild of the North Stand is the first phase and they have plans to redevelop other stands.
