  1. Watford and Bournemouth messing up really helped us in 19/20 but I still think we were saved by two freakish things- the first being sent into lockdown after the 4-0 defeat at Leicester, we emerged a different team in Project Restart and secondly Hawkeye failing. Maybe we would have survived anyway but its mental a failure in goal line tech has never happened before or since.

As much as I’d like Everton or Leeds to go down (nothing against Everton really, it’s just a more interesting outcome), I can’t see it being anyone other than Norwich, Watford and Burnley. They all seem to be fighting to be the worst down there. It is absolutely delightful not to be part of it.

    The day Leeds were relegated

Alan Smith kissed the badge on the day Leeds were relegated from the Premier League

    A couple of months later

Smith joined Man United despite previously saying he would never play for the club

Yeah I would see it as a strong possibility he would go to United given the state of their midfield. They’re going to want a massive overhaul and culture change in the summer.

Dont get me wrong, I would love him here, I just can’t see it happening.

  3. Now reporting that takeover can go ahead. So what happens to the £1.5 billion debt to Abramovich. If he writes it off so that takeover can go ahead where does that leave them with  FFP?

Its all v confusing but if they sort the takeover, I can see them carrying on as normal after that.

  4. We’re not just another club to Leeds though are we. They hate us. Phillips values his legacy with the Leeds fans, I just can’t see him making the move unless Leeds are relegated and we’re the only club that comes in for him.

Looking at our run in, I think 9th is what is realistically possible.

Too much ground to run in, and too difficult a fixture list.

Wolves are in good form and have an easier run in.

Tottenham aren't going to implode either I don't think, they've picked up some form as well.

I’d be pleased with 9th. Means we’ve done reasonably well in the run in. We’re obviously not going to win every game but I’d see it as a success if we can avoid any more runs of dreadful performances. Team spirit seems so good, need to keep that going.

Konsa staying on the bench is the big choice.

Congrats to Dougie on his 100th appearance.

Would have put Konsa back in myself but it’s a close call especially if Konsa was poorly with Covid.

    full 50min episode.

Anyone who hasn’t watched the full 50 mins definitely should. It’s a treat, a real insight.

I also presume he’s talking about Targett as the player that was brilliant last season but hid once the pressure was on with the crowds back in.

He clearly adores Neil Cutler, refers to him constantly. And he’s driven by his individual targets which I really like.

As thought, Beale is extremely important in the managerial set up, does most of the talking, Emi said it’s like having two managers (in a v complimentary way).

We will make an offer that we can afford, and we will push the boat out to accommodate him, but if he decides he wants to move elsewhere then what can you do.

We have a trump card of the Gerrard connection so I think that would give us the edge over someone like Spurs, who we would normally lose out to, but if a PSG type comes in offering Champions League and silly wages we’ll probably have to make our peace with it.

I agree but losing our star player twice in 12 months would suck no matter how philosophical we are about it.

I dont think its surprising at all re. Casualties. We need that to happen in order to evolve. Cant fund better players without it sadly.

I think the surprise around the casualties is more the “who” than the fact we are making them. Like if Mings or McGinn were to leave for example.

He's a wonderful player, but I do wonder what our plans are for FFP when we're going to have Ings and Coutinho at 30, on massive wages, relatively large transfer fees, and pretty much no resale value, hopefully we can spin a profit on some of our youngsters.

I think the state of Everton should put fear/sense into everyone who wants to have players, even PC, on astronomical wages. Their wage bill is the largest outside the big six and it’s causing them massive problems.

I really hope we can sort something out to have him stay here (and another season loan might be perfect) but I hope we don’t tie ourselves to 3 years of £250k pw ( or whatever) on a 30 year old.

  11. Yep, wages going to be the issue. Article says we’re paying around 25% of his wages currently. Says another season long loan is a possibility but Gerrard wants to buy. Final decision will probably with Coutinho and what other options he has.

Interesting aside, Percy mentions that the summer reshape would include a few surprise casualties.

  12. Love our fan base. Couple of losses and the relegation avoidance thread is on fire, couple of wins and the European chase thread lights up.

    Fwiw, I think we’ll finish 9-12, most probably 10 or 11.

I just think they have enough quality to stay up. We've been in the same position and usually for a club like that to go down it requires years of stagnation.

I agree, they’ve got a couple of games in hand on those around them and aren’t even in the relegation zone yet. If they shake this defeat off mentally, the only games I would say they definitely won’t get anything from is West Ham, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea, the others are all inconsistent, I think they’ll get enough points.

If go down though…ouch, that stadium build is going to cause them problems.
