Other than that, hate all the negativity surrounding him all the time. It’s just sucking all the fun out of following the club right now

Agree. We’ve had a rough ride but there are some right haters about. Test the meaning of the word ‘support’.

That's really rather damning. Talented players are looking incredibly ineffective under Gerrard. Coutinho occasionally very good, more often a passenger. Consistent performers, Mings, Cash, that's about it!

I think everyone’s rewriting history. Those “talented players” were pretty much abysmal for most of 2021 up to Gerrard arriving.

Which is a big issue. You only need to look at Maguire to see what can happen when a manager sticks with a player that is massively out of form and others not given a chance.

I don’t think any of us are going to threaten to bomb his house.

I was at both too. It was one game and one half hour.

So not attacking play “none” then. Prior to our most recent crap run we had scored 9 in 3 games and conceded none.

I think we should go our separate ways in the summer.

Do not give him a full season. It well get ugly fast.

He's so far out of his depth it's untrue. Time to go back to a pub league where he can have the bestest players and the bestest budget.

I can't believe how bad he is and how utterly bereft of any attacking play for about 50% of his games. If I'm being kind.

    Horrendous. Utterly horrendous.

Use of the squad. Non existent.

    Completion for places. Non existent.

    Football style. Non existent.

    Attacking play. None.

    Balance. None.

    Midfield. None.

    Link up or cohesion. None.

Subs in game management. Non existent.

So much of this is rubbish. I was at the Southampton game where we great, I was there at Spurs where we played some lovely stuff but were punished by a ruthless world class attack.

Not Gerrards fault that Bailey appears to be a dud. We spent 30mil on him, he’s right to start him and see what he can do.

Not Gerrards fault that our midfield is rubbish. Deano couldn’t get more out of them either. We went for Bentancur, he chose Spurs so he’s stuck with what we’ve got for now.

Not Gerrards fault that Watkins can’t score, he can’t take the shots for him.

Talking about completion for places- Hause, Sanson and Traore are all out. We’ve just lost 4 on the bounce, not a game to start Tim, although we will see more of him.

So many of the issues you mention were there before he arrived. I’m most annoyed at how we spent the Grealish money (Buendia being the exception).

We’ve taken 4 points off Leicester, all under his reign.

I don’t like that we’re not playing Buendia but the level of hate he’s getting is weird and I think largely based on jealousy of Newcastle. Form is temporary, they’ll have a dip and theres only so many players they can buy.

There is a lot to be positive about at Villa, not that you would know it.

The football was just as dismal from non Grealish containing Deano teams tbf

Absolutely true, people have short memories. There was a reason Deano got sacked, we’ve been watching dross bar the odd good performance for just over a year now.

Chrisene is only just 18 and barely featured in the academy teams due to nightly injuries.

Today is not the game to thrown a young player under the bus and hope it comes off.

When safety is mathematically confirmed then we can try out a few youth players here and there.

    Totally agree.

I’m a staunch Grauniad-reading liberal, but I’m not quite sure what to make of this stopping the game at sunset to let Ramadan-observing players have a quick snack.

A quick snack makes it sounds like they pause for a packet of crisps rather than squeezing a pack of gel down their neck and having a swig of water. If it wasn’t reported on, I think we’d barely notice.

At this point it's looking incredibly bleak. I'd take anything from this match.

Cheer up. A draw would be fine but to be honest, I’m delighted it’s match day after what has felt like forever without a match whilst the rest of the league played on. At least it will give us something new to talk about rather than recycling the same conversations.

    injured?

SG very specifically talked about why Traore was out (groin) but then very pointedly said that Sanson and Hause were “unavailable” so I presumed Covid.

Does the 3 of them normally go watch prospects? You'd think all 3 were there for more than a bit of scouting.

Well yes. I would expect the scouts have done the ground work already and I could see why Gerrard might want to go but when Lange and especially Purslow are on the trip I would think it would be to talk numbers/ giving it the big sell.

Yeah this is what I was saying to my mate just now! We are playing awful and have simply regressed yet demand is at fever pitch!

I logged on at 5pm today for the Crystal Palace tickets on sale to members. Got a couple quite easily but high high up in Trinity. I want a season ticket just so I can get some better seats. I’m on the waiting list but don’t expect to get one. I think it will take a couple of seasons of dross before demand wanes. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen.

  13. The memberships are worth it as a one off purchase in so much as I have been able to buy a ticket for every match I’ve wanted to go to (the majority this season) but even then they’re not particularly desirable seats. I tend to sit in the same area each time unless I can get anything better.
I can well imagine there’s very little left by the time they reach general sale. It’s difficult and quite remarkable really when you consider some of the rubbish people have had to watch this season.

    This is true.

Gerrard and the club know the season is over. Everybody within the club and even the fans now, just want this season to be over.

But. It isn’t. And it’s getting more embarrassing by the week. I’m sure Purslow is sweating more than most because he knows he has a horrible decision to make if we don’t start at least drawing games.

As you rightly say, no manager can be allowed to lose 5/6/7 games in a row without serious scrutiny. Especially one with a such an expensively assembled squad.

I want Gerrard to succeed but the club is going to be in a massively awkward position if we don’t start improving.

That’s part of the problem, isn’t it. Mentally the players downed tools in feb, which was way too early. But Gerrard did too to a degree. I think they all thought theyd coast along mid table until the end of the season and Gerrard could go spending. The failure to value this last third of the season (collectively not just SG) means we have become a bit of a laughing stock and we might have to reassess all our summer plans (which might not be the worst thing if we are forced into spending smarter not just big and we maybe lower our expectations and next season is a slow burn).

Apologies, if I reacted to what I thought was a loaded question.

While, I don't think the stature of a team, is the be all and end all.....I do think in todays high intensity games, it makes a difference....I think our team is too light and too small, compared to many other teams in the division....and I think this plays a part in our inability to dominate in the air, when required....Aerial balls play more a part, than some care to admit....set pieces is just ones area, but a crucial area to get right.

I don't want to see a team of giants, but I do want to see us adequately competitive in the crucial area's of defending our goal or our lead.

I do get, that smaller players, can engage in high intensity, but it doesn't make up for losing crucial aerial balls, that lead to players being played in to goal threatening scenario's.

Brighton was an example how savvy defending stopped Spurs from opening them up like they did us.....and denying Harry Kane was instrumental in them stopping Spurs.

I know, its not just having big players, its about defensive organisation too....but the players have to be able to play to the defensive instructions.

I accept, that one thing alone is not the issue, but I think if we don't start fixing some things, the others won't be forthcoming.

We are a little team but I think we’re really suffering as  result of not improving our midfield for several windows. It might only take a couple of players to make a massive difference. I also think they’ve suffered from a lack of purpose, our season has been over since feb.

Which ones are you expecting me to say, in view of me majoring on defensive frailty.

I wasn’t expecting you to say any in particular I was just interested as you are a pretty positive poster (to your credit). All I know about your general opinions is that you are pro Gerrard on the whole and think the players are mentally weak. Beyond that I don’t know where you think the blame lies which was I asked. You don’t have to answer, I’m not that fussed, just mildly curious.

What also seems to be left out of the written account of the connected events, is that he pretty much said the same thing of himself after the Wolves game, I was surprised that it wasn't commented on after, but then again I suppose it didn't suit the narrative that he's blaming the players, and not himself

I missed this, what did he say?
