I agree with everything you’re saying. It still doesn’t mean we are currently better than the other squads that finished above us. that’s for next season to tell. lots of work needed, some players out, some players in, last seasons tactics scrapped and upgraded. A kick up some players arses and develop a real winning mentality. Maybe we can challenge Arsenal.

But they all finished above us and all but Brighton took points from us. I’m not saying they are light years ahead of us, just that they are… currently. A full league of games is a fair assessment to say these teams were better and we need to improve. not just players, but tactics, ideas and style too. but to be fair, all teams that finished 7th to 17th last season could finish anywhere from 7th to relegation next season. It’s a tight pack. A good signing there, a bad injury here, a new manager over there makes a big difference. but unfortunately for all these teams, it’s seems a massive stretch that any of them could permanently make the top 6

So many red flags it deserves a dance

Yeah I see your perspective. Get the cash while we can. but my argument is try him out in preseason at least, and maybe a few early games if he impresses. If not we sell him late in the window he’s an ideal rotation option to have, especially if we have bigger ambitions. And more so when we don’t really have any other option there right now

For the record, I’m not against selling him either. Just feel like we in a good position where we have 2 decent players in the same position. Yet, they never competed for that place. Like I said, I don’t think Digne has been that much better, in fact I believe Targett played better for the geordies than Digne played for us. so before shipping him, I feel we could at least test both of them out. See if Targett is really in need of the chop

Yeah obviously, but that’s not really my point. my point is, he never had the chance to compete for his spot here. Be it his choice or not. Digne hasn’t been that much of a step up that Matt couldn’t challenge. At least a preseason would be a fair chance

Some what yes, but there’s not much in it with the team’s outside of the “big 6” teams next season, almost anyone else could finish 7th or equally get relegated. It’s that close with chasing pack, unfortunately we’re in that pack. but we showing some serious intent and attracting some good players for it. Hopefully it helps us to break out of the chasing pack and join up with the “big 6”

I don’t mind. tbh, I really want Targett to stay. he had a great stint at Newcastle and I want to see him challenging Dinge for the spot. Worse comes to worse, we have a decent backup

Wolves, yes, wet spam, yes Vardy’s party, yes brighton, on par, but more balanced, so yes Newcastle, maybe, not sure. But I’m sure they are improving this summer Palace, I hate to say it, but probably yes Brentford, no, but having a worldie like Ericsson had made the difference.

Then why did we finish 8 places below the top 6?

Spending money doesn’t mean we getting more points. Other teams spend money too. Realistically, 60+ points is top 6 form. Top 6 is an ambitious target for Villa, considering we just finished 14th on 45 points, 10 points from safety . So yeah 60+ points is ambitious, be it making us top 6 or not.
