    How so?

I think some Villa tinted glasses on regarding this from people. Marseille said something similar and Leverkusen before that

I reject that take. The whole Grealish stuff was very different. It was clear communication about the transfer and future after Grealish. Grealish was praised a lot too by Purslow. It was matter of fact without the bitterness. I can't recall Purslow speaking about City or Jack in the context of money being the deciding factor.

Anybody excusing this needs to give their head a wobble.

Purslow got praised on here for doing a similar speech to get Villa fans onside when Grealish left, I dont see a difference

    Totally different.

It's his job to save face with the Sevilla fans and not the Villa fans.

He owes a lot to Diego Carlos. It is wrong for him to speak about DC in this way IMO and falsely characterise him. We will cross paths with him again, we can talk about sporting projects as we knock them out of the competition.

I'm not saying he's wrong, but he doesn't have to say it, either. He's trying to save face with the club's supporters, which is understandable. He could've simply said "Diego made the decision he felt best for him, and we respect it and wish him well."

100 per cent. It lacks class and is desperate deflection.

Story confirming Newcastle had agreed to a deal with Diego in January but Sevilla didn't want to sell him. Also Sevilla's director takes a shot at Villa!

What a bitter man. I guess fear and jealousy are driving his beliefs. Fear of his own supporters questioning him. 😂 He will happily take our cash in a heartbeat but spin the line that the player is all about money - simply to deflect from his failure to convince Carlos to stay. No Jose, you are about the dollar.

Diego also helped win them the Europa League too. Show some decorum and class - keep silent and respect Carlos' service to your club. No need for digs and false characterisations, especially from a director too. This guy needs to be more vocal about the uneven distribution of the La Liga cash going to Madrid and Barca, that is the big reason you struggle to hold on to your better players. Jose Maria Cruz de Andres is simply a lap dog for Real Madrid & Barcelona.

Ex player. Villa made his playing career. Managed England u21s > Academy. Picked several Villa seniors for England. Hardly any other English club managers to select. Stevie to succeed Klopp.

I think Southgate is an unpopular figure with Villa fans, given his departure and Grealish antics. If Gerrard takes over after Klopp it means he has delivered at a high level here, and that I would assume would open the door to more established and reputable coaches.

3 players who actually aren't all that old are not going to set us back years.

Exactly. Players in their prime to move us up the ladder and then allow the young crop to develop and then eventually replace those players.

Thing is, it’s 50/50 where we go from here in my view.

We either emulate Spurs and kick on to become one of the top 6-8 teams or we end up like Everton with overpaid and overrated players weighing us down.

I don’t think there’ll be much middle ground on this, I think we either succeed or fail so they could yet be right and they have experience of doing it themselves.

That is a simplistic and lazy view of our business and strategy. We will emulate neither, we will do it the Villa way. I have been hearing and reading we will follow Forest/Wednesday (when we first got relegated)- Leeds (when our financial troubles hit) - Fulham (when we spent some money after promotion).  Now it is we will follow Everton because we signed a few players who are close to 30, neglecting the fact we have invested a lot in our academy and the other young players in our first team squad. With all due respect, it is nonsense.

As for Everton. Kenwright & Moshiri are like a duo of Lerner and Ellis. 🤣😨 I think It is a good sign when other clubs are upset and bitter about your club - a very good sign.

Considering they finished above us, have richer owners and we are chasing the same long term goal

Not sure what else to call them 😛

We have the better project. Better owners too IMO. The Saudi link has the potential to cause them all sorts of grief in the coming years.

Not sure what Digne is doing at Aston Villa tbh. Too good for us. Should be at Man City

He just simply knows where we are heading and what we are looking to achieve. Exciting.

What's this? Their mega takeover isnt happening, their shithole stadium is completely broken, and half of it wont reopen, and due to financial mismanagement they are liable to, at best get relegated and at worst get relegated with a huge points deduction.

    They break yar heart Tom.

What has happened? I thought this takeover was certain?

  12. I cannot shake the feeling that Gerrard could have convinced Beale to stay (at least a season) if he wanted too. I think SG has known this has been coming and has made reference about reshaping and polishing his backroom team. I think we will be well prepared. Good luck to MB though.

Some fella on an Everton forum reckons he’s heard we’re in talks with Richarlison. Certainly fits the player profile (he’s Brazilian, basically) but will be expensive.

Can’t see it myself and not sure he’s any better than Watkins. Certainly won’t be bringing him, or any other high profile striker for that matter, unless Ings or Watkins are sold.

    🇧🇷 😃 - He is a feisty character.

Is promoting one of our many coaches from within, out of the question?

SG promoted Liam Bramley and then Bramley shortly went to join Norwich with Dean. I think Danks may take more responsibility if/when Beale leaves. Who knows? I would say the majority of us don't know our elbows from our arses on a coaching pitch. 😂

However, I think it is a sign of a poor manager if they struggle without a certain coach.

I think it’s about right, we should be looking for around £20m for Targett IMO, although rumours of closer to £15m. £5-10m for the rest, Sanson and Traore at the upper end, Trezeguet, El Ghazi, Hause at the lower end.

Also get the sense Luiz will be off, around £20-25m I’d expect with Roma reportedly interested.

Of course as others have said, some might have to be loaned out which would put a dent in the money received.

I wouldn't be shocked if Luiz signed a new contract. That sort of twist.

We’ll probably have City away as a first game now.

Good. Lets bloody given them another good game and this time beat them turds. 😂
